Re: James Cameron's Avatar
So long as the movie is entertaining I really don't care about slightly cliched story-lines, besides I've never even seen the movie you're talking about so it wouldn't matter much.

YEAAAAHA! Don't get me wron I have nothing against effects and stuff it's jsut that I am so sick and tired of all these movies that have nothing more to offer that shining CGI effects!

I will appreciate a movie for more then just the special affects. The storyline is cliched and pretty much every major reviewer and watcher knows that, but the character portrayals and the beautiful detail all makes it a story that is still worth watching regardless of its similarities. I will appreciate a film for its beauty and in depth storyline just as much as one that might be cliched but still told very well.
One of the things I want a movie to do is just grasp my attention and make me forget things for two hours, and enjoy wasting that time doing it. The art of film-making can be complex and daunting and things like super special effects can help TRY and bring that feeling up a little bit...but you can tell that they put a lot of time into perfecting the visual effects and such, and even with the weak storyline I still enjoyed watching it because it grasped my attention.
I've seen plenty of movies that are suped up but obviously have a dull as dirt plot, but this one more then made up for something a little familiar. Anyways that's just my view on it...I'll have to check out the movie you mentioned before.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar
Everybody who I've known to watch the movie never had special effects as the main selling point for the movie - I guess Starscream is making an assumption that CGI stuff is what the audiences rave the most? I found the story to fit very well, and it conveys itself effectively to the audience emotionally too. Whatever it is, the execution was great IMO and eliminates whatever hullaballoo there is about story originality. I couldn't care less about the actual graphics or those funky 3D glasses.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar
Yeah but tell me this what was the first impression after the movie?
WAs it, oh yeah the story was amazing, it was complex and it was well done
or was it *bleep* YEAH! GREATEST EFFECTS EVER! THE BATTLE WAS AWESOME! PANDORA WAS AWESOME! EFFECTS ARE AWESOME!
Every single review of the movie EVER praises the effefcts only saying good things about them, while praising James Cameron (the most overrated director EVER!) like he's the freaking Moses of cinema, not even mention the story or the charates except maybe in one sentence...
Effects were the main selling point of the movie, they were the ones that advertised the movie, you can try to deny it but it's a stone fact, not an opinion FACT!
People went to see the movie not because of the characters, not because of the story but because they wanted to see the effects and the gimmicky overrated 3D tehnology.
Why do you think Transformers 2 and 2012 were also such a huge hit? Do you seriously think that people went to those movies because of the story or just to see sh*t blow up?
EDIT: OK you know what *bleep* it, I'm ending this disscusion.
I hated the movie and I think James CAmeron is an overrated hack!
Everybody else *bleep*ing loved the movie and think James Cameron is god and that this is the greates movie ever made.
There can we stop this now and agree to disagree?!

Both. Not that much *** ironic enthousiasm for the effects of course.
Effects were the main selling point of the movie, they were the ones that advertised the movie, you can try to deny it but it's a stone fact, not an opinion FACT!
True. Is that a reason to extremely dislike the storyline like you do?

Whaha. I lol'd.
Transformers 2 Sucked even harder than Transformers 1, or at least over here. Hey, listen up: MAYBE THEY DID ONLY WANT TO HEAR LINKIN PARK's NEW DIVIDE? IT'S THE *** MOST AMAZING THING IN THE ENTIRE *** MOVIE!
And actually, a lot of people do visit those movies to see things blowing up.
EDIT: OK you know what *bleep* it, I'm ending this disscusion.

Your opinion. But it's not the greatest movie ever and James Cameron is no *** god. It's just an awesome movie with cool effects and the storyline is NOT BAD AT ALL. But that does not mean that it's the best movie ever made, because there is no best movie ever made. It only depends on your opinions. I do not find it the best movie ever for myself, but some people do, yes. Just like your fave movie is Transformers (as an example). Why would you care?
There can we stop this now and agree to disagree?!
Okay then, I totally disagree and now I'll stop it.

*bleep* NO!!!! I hate the live-action transformers movies, they represent everything that is wrong with the movie industry these days!

I've seen it today. My god, what a phenomenal film. One of the best films I've ever seen. I was enchanted all the way through.

Neither.
My true opinion on it was that the story was not amazing, but simple and yet effective at the same time. I think this is due to a lot of factors that compliment each other well. I'm basically restating what I already said - and none of it mentions something as superficial as graphics alone.
People went to see the movie not because of the characters, not because of the story but because they wanted to see the effects and the gimmicky overrated 3D tehnology.
Well now you've met your exception. ![]()
And I'm far from the only "exception" as well.
Everybody else *bleep* loved the movie and think James Cameron is god and that this is the greates movie ever made.
Now you're just venting. ![]()
I believe what people are saying is that few expected Cameron to make a movie that would nearly match his Titanic many years ago. They thought he couldn't pull off something like that again, especially after it has been many years since. So basically not "the greatest movie ever made", but more like a "surprising" comeback with successful results. The whole execution of the movie is epic, and an original story isn't required to make something epic. You can view this as even more amazing that Cameron managed to wow the audience DESPITE an unoriginal plot. That's something.
Hope that clears things up.
P.S. Starscream, the way you post your thoughts is far more adamant and stubborn than what we call a humble opinion

Re: James Cameron's Avatar
Avatar has now become the quickest film to gross over 1 billion dollars. Now holds a domestic gross of 352.1 million and international gross of 670 million. This places it at the fourth highest grossing film of all time behind only Titanic, Return of the King, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
And only after 17 days...wow

Re: James Cameron's Avatar
I think it'll definitely beat Titanic. After all, it's catching up fast and it's only been in the cinema for just under 3 weeks.

Re: James Cameron's Avatar
Actually, Dark Knight beat all of those by making 1 billion around the same time. How clever that we forget one of the best movies ever made.

Tell them that the last battle is almost as epic as some of the Lord Of The Rings battles...
Althougt I don't know if I would want to watch the whole thing just for the last 20 minutes...
Maybe when it comes out on DVD I might, because I can skip directly to it...
But I don't know If I want a DVD of Avatar...
I'd much rater save my money for Sherlock Holmes ^_^

Re: James Cameron's Avatar
As a side note, I want to say that the storyline was made around ten years
ago. So if you are calling the storyline cliche, aren't you comparing it to
today's storylines? If this storyline was made ten years ago, I don't think it
should be called cliche.
