The hermit predicts another game?

What exactly is the hermits purpose in dawn of the dragon? Was he just a random character who holds a key. Or will he appear to be more important and maybe add into the story?

I mean he knew about cynder while she was possessed by the dark master in a new beginning but why wasn't he in that one? Why does he appear years later?

Or is he just a random character for just that one scene.
