"No."  Ulkna immediately replied without hesitation. "I know what you are trying to do, boy. Those slaves are MY property. And if you aren't careful, YOU'LL end up a slave." He stood up, glaring at Colum. "Why would you want a slave anyway? You couldn't - you don't have the authority." He said smugly.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

"Since when did someone have to have athority to own something?", wondered Colum.

"It just occured to me, some of those slaves have no idea what they are doing." said Colum, trying to to be specific and give away the fact that he wanted a particular dragon, "they are no good at blacksmithing and too scrawny to be any use as means of cargo transport." He licked his lips nervisly, knowing that how he phrased his sentence would decyde the fate of Zeel, then thought, "what does that matter to me? I'm not fighting for my freedom, don't really matter if I lose, I still keep my gold, my life, my freedom, and possabily gain a stable souce of gold..."

"If you would be willing to part with a single slave or so, for a fair price of corse, I could put them to a much better use," he paused, thinking that saying the next line would be a mistake, pushing his boundries, "preforming and reconosince in your name or even a small theft or assassination would go much smoother with an obdent steed." Finished Colum.

"If it diddn't work, I'm shure someone else would be willing to sell a dragon... or maybe a nice dragonwing cloak..." thought Colum, awaiting the dragon's reply.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

"Are you deaf? I said NO!" Ulkna thrust his head at Colum aggressively. "If those slaves are not good enough for the job, there are a number of options. One: They are assigned a different task. Two: I simply discard them. Or three: I kill them."

Ulkna grinned, quite satisfied. The voice was back. Foolish human. Who does he think he is? Trying to buy a slave off his king. The nerve! Kill him and be done with him.

While Ulkna wanted to rip Colum apart as he was starting to get on his nerves, he couldn't help but wonder what exactly the boy was up to. I'll find out. If he steps out of line, he's dead. He thought.

He tried to ignore the voice and faced Colum again. "I have my wealth thank you very much. I don't need more. Now if you are done, get lost." He snapped, turning away.

Colum stood stock still, not in defyance, but in sheer terror, the kind of terror where your mind goes into denial, and you body shock. His cheecks looked like black parchment, and his eyes were blank and staring. After a few seconds of looking like a statue, Colum managed to come to his scenses enought cry out to the dragons back, "Training!"

Ulkna stopped and turned his head, but not his body. "...What?" He scowled and turned to face Colum. "You are starting to get on my nerves boy!" He snarled. "You have not given me a straight answer about that yet, so I'll ask you again. Are you or are you not joining my army? If yes, good, I'll explain more about it. If not, get lost and stop wasting my time."

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Colum was gripped by a mix of fear and resentment. "That fool dragon, that dumb*bleep* Zeel. I ask about him and get my head chopped off!," though Colum, anger creeping into his mind to mingle with fear and resentment. "And after all the trouble, I still get a "no"... danmed dragon."

The flood of anger spawned by his blaming of Zeel and the fear inspired by Ulkna made Colum's blood move faster though this body. His hand covered his eyes to give him a moment of sanctary, a moment of peace from the scowling dark dragon before him. A feeling of relative calm overtook Colum.

Faly took a deep breath, lowered his hand and looked the dragon in the eyes (ignoring the mind numbing sensation). "My answer has not been givven. I don't relish the idea of collitting to an unknown cause.", spoke Faly, keeping his tone even and paced, trying to sound objective and passive, "If I am assuming correctly, you prefer not to make that same fool mistake of commiting to something you may not support. That is where I stand. So, before I give my word and agree to work in your name, I would like to know what that intails." Faly, looked down and to his left, scratched his nose, and continued, "Will I be a rank and file grunt on the front line? Will I work reconosince, will I work in troop dicipline, will I end up being a cook, ect ect, you get the point.", ended Faly, with the faintest ghost of smile twitching across the corner of his lips.

Link sighed as he walked away. Always the same thing. Never happy when I did something. Am I too annoying? I only want to keep people alive...

Ulkna sighed. STILL no straight answer. Should I just toss him off the tower so he will be out of my way?

Yes. The voice replied.

Ulkna ignored it and said, "You will start by attending daily training classes. After you pass them, you can call yourself a member of the army, although not all missions will require your presence. Happy?"

[[Hmm? Aah, I feel impopular wink]]

Why the heck am I doing this anyway? I help others and all I get is anger because I didn't do allright or whatever. Link actually was angry and a bit of disappointed, seriously nothing for him to be. Enough. I will do this on my own. I'll show them what I'm worth. As silent as he could, he flew to the highest tower of the Spire Palace, where he had been, saving the Dragon. He hoped she would wake up, but he didn't see her. Just sitting there, on top of the tower, Link hoped that someone, anyone would see or meet him. He began to feel lonelier, although he wanted to fight alone. He just needed someone. someone to talk with. someone to explain everything. The cold wind was blowing in his wings and bright manes. Silently he hoped Ulkna would hear him, but on the other hand it was pretty risky. Destiny would decide.

As Ulkna awaited Colum's reply, he could swear he heard something. As if someone's claws were scratching against the roof. Oh... come on. He pushed Colum out of the way and threw himself off the tower, flying straight ahead. After a sharp turn, he sped back towards the roof. The dragon that confronted him earlier was there. Ooh that little s***! He thought as he doubled his speed, aiming to tackle the dragon.

Darn it! The path of destiny was chosen. The only thing Link could do is defend and attack. Fleeing was not possible. "We meet again. How annoying can I be. Am I not allowed to be on your roof? How pathetic..." he knew he was acting dangerous. It was the only way he wanted to do things now. His two swords were ready. Maybe they were going to be used. Maybe, after that long, long time of peace. He saw Ulkna coming closer to attack. He dodged it and tried to counterattack by using his Light sword, which was obviously more powerfull against the Darkness.

[[If he hit Ulkna is up to you, Saph!]]

Ulkna quickly ascended as he got closer to the dragon. Those swords... I'd better be careful of them. ((They can't kill him (yet) but they'll just badly injure him.)) He flew past the dragon and turned and faced him. Better keep my distance... "THAT'S IT!" I've had it with you youngling." He focused on the dragon's neck, his usual mad grin of pleasure spread across his face. Eyes wide, glowing and staring. He slowly started to pull...

((OOC: Unless you want Link's head to go rolling down the tower I suggest he moves. tongue Remember the tingling sensation. Perhaps some pain too since he's pulling.))

F*ck that. Not again! Link totally forgot about that pain. Better move then... but first... He growled and threw his sword to Ulkna. It hit and wounded the Dragon. He grinned, let the sword dissolve and returned it to himself. Then he flew down the tower, untill he disappeared into nothing.

[[Okay, nice action scene. It was time Ulkna got to fight a bit again, so did Link.]]

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Ulkna howled as the sword flew past his left side, giving him a huge gash on his waste. Terrible pain. Pain he hadn't felt in a long time.

I'll kill that kid! His head screamed. Trying to ignore the pain, he dived down the tower in the direction that he saw the dragon go. The wind battered his face. No dragon.

Ulkna howled in rage and started to fly the entire perimeter of the palace. I'll get him. I'll torture him until he begs to be killed. Then I'll rip his limbs off and leave him to bleed. He deserves to suffer! He felt slightly faint, blood was constantly dripping from his gash. The pain was unbearable.

"Must... find... that dragon." He told himself. "And... murder him..." Ulkna gave up. Everything went black and he felt himself falling. Then after what seemed forever, he felt himself crash violently to the ground. Then he felt nothing...

((OOC: He's landed in a street in Warfang if anyone wants to investigate.))

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Faly was swept off his feet by the rush of the dragon. Sliding on his back, Faly looked up to see a dragon, a flimilar dragon. "The one who threw my arrow back at me", thought Faly, a bolt of rage striking his heart.

Getting to his feet, Faly dashed to the pillars supporting the high stained glass roof. Knowing that he would never be able to simply jump or fly to the roof, the young man did the next best thing, he climbed. Makeing three quick verticle steps upon one pillar, the man kicked off the support colum. He felt his chest press against the cool marble, making another three fast verticle steps Faly managed to grab the ledge of the roof an pull himslef up.

Faly saw a flashing glint of steel as it carved it's pather though the evening sky. The blade ran a corse that split the side of the great dark dragon that was willing to recrut Faly.

As the blage gouged out chunks of dragon flesh, the beast in question had began his charge. With this sudden applcation of pain, the dragon made a terrable screach of pain and began decending...off the tower.

"MY MONEY!", screamed Faly, leaping after the dragon. This, oddly enough, was not the first time Faly had found himself leaping off a very high building. Useing what he had learned from his many expaditions into the world of free-falling, Faly leaned so to ude the falling dark dragon as a wing shield to increase his fall speed. After a moment of praying that he would not be inpaled upon any of the dragons spikes, Faly landed on the falling dragon. Acting quickly, Faly unferled one of the wings that had been caught under the beast and held there by mere wind resistence. Next order of buissness was either making shure the dragon survived that fall, or he did. The choice was ovious.

Faly pushed off the dragon (whos falling rate dropped signifantly due to the wings acting as an air guard) and undid his cloak. Quickly looping it around his fist, Faly concuted a makehift parashute. Knowing the fall would kill him if he landed flat, roughly 10 feet from the ground Faly deflated his parashute. When his feet hit the ground, they had already left them again. Faly attempted to distribute the falling force though a series of rapid backward rolls (this was higly effective apart from making him very dizzy).

Faly pressed his index and middle finger against the dragon's neck, "I can't feel a pulse...may have something to do with him being a diffret creature from me, but he is still warm," thought Faly. He held his hand close to Ulkna's nose and felt a slight and gentle stream of warm air. "He's breathing." thought Faly, wondering if he should finished the dragon off here and now.

"Ahhhh, that's a bit of a doozy." muttered Faly, examining the gash in Ulkna's flank. It was a long, wide and deep cut (at least, deep by Faly the human standards). thanks to the fall it had now been irratated and coated with dirt, grime and pus. "This mess is gonna be one hell-of-a infection..." Faly trailed off.

Moving with an air of purpose, Faly doused a portion of the wound with a spash of water from his hip flask. The water washed away the dirt to show a gathering of nasty looking stones embedded in the flesh. Flicking out one of his two remaining knives, Faly used the blade to dig out the stones. Faly continued this process of cleaning the wound, occasionally avoiding Ulkna's lashing tail when a bit of pain flits across the dragon's face.

Ulkna only a bit of pain now - such a relief, but something was messing with the wound. Something cold splashed against it. Digging into it. He tried to speak, but no words came out, just grunts. He slowly opened his eyes and glanced to his left. There was Colum.

Instead of speaking, Ulkna spoke telepathically. What are you doing?! I don't need your help! Get lost! He snapped, trying to get to his feet. He winced as the pain returned and then his legs collapsed underneath him and he fell again. Ugh... alright then. He said to Colum. Help me if you must. But why bother? I can't die. I can only suffer...

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Without knowing it, Link had actually flown through the ground. No hore, just right through it without any trace. His landing was difficult and surprising, but clean, except that he fell down when he actually landed. He knew this place. He had wandered here for months, what, years. The underground world. The caves beneath the upper world. It was like a dark maze of tunnels and caves.

So the Underground is here as well... interesting. I thought I had crossed every bit of it. There he was, back where it all started. Back into the endless maze underneath the inhabited world. It was like Link's home.

Aimlessly Link transformed into his Light Form, bringing more light to the caves. He followed the small, yellowish glow of light that passed through the tunnels filled with darkness. Link was happy. He had wounded the enemy. I hope he will feel it for a very long time. I would have wounded him even more if I got the chance, but the pain, the pain... he rubbed his neck. Nothing. Stupid mental waste attacks. He hated every pain he could feel without actually getting hit. It was a kind of unfair way to hurt somebody. He had learned to not feel physical pain, but still felt that pain from the inside, caused by psychic Dragons.

As he reached the end of the tunnels, he found a beautifull cave. When he finally saw more light and changed back to his half-form, Link realized that he traveled pretty far. He was in one of the nearby mountains.

"At least I can find some rest here." he said to himself. He flew to the mountain peak and climed on it, doing the same as he did on the Spire Palace's tower: sitting and staring. He was amazed by the enormous view. He could see a lot from here. The Palace, the forests, the cave entrances... a lot. At least he was far away from Ulkna.

I'll kill him! I swear I will! Ulkna ranted to Colum. I'll rip his throat out! I'll tear his face off! I'll rip that little cretin limb from limb! He wanted to get to his feet and go and search for the dragon, but he was too exhausted. He tried speaking again, but only grunted, and every time he tried, it hurt even more. He lay and let Colum clean his gash.

He disconnected his mind from Colum's and thought to himself, Why is he helping me? No one EVER helps me. No one ever has... He sighed and winced slightly as Colum continued to dig the stones out. Perhaps... perhaps this is a good human.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Zeel thought a minute. It's been a while since Colum left... he thought. Oh, well, why was I getting my hopes up? I can make my own escape plan.

He plotted for a minute. I'm going to work on a tower. I presume they're going to remove my foot bonds so I can walk around, and my arm bonds so I can carry stuff. Now, if I could just find a way to cut my wing bonds, nothing would stop me. Although I would need to know what they are made of, since I've never seen them... and I also need some way to acquire a sword strong enough to cut it. That's the hard part...

He sighed, and went to sleep due to his lack of tasks at the moment.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Faly blocked out Ulkna's mental projection at first, so deep was he into the problem in from of him. It wasn't a showing of good of will, nor did he clean the wound as a jesture of loyality. It was a puzzle to him, a challange for him to overcome and defeat, it was a game for him.

That is, untill his playing board moved, winced, and fell back down.

"Ugh... alright then." He said to Faly. "Help me if you must. But why bother? I can't die. I can only suffer..."

Faly's imedite responce to the mental words was one of monetary panic and anger. It was not the fisrt time someone had chosen to speak to his mind, but he was no fonder of it then as he was now. "Stay OUT of my mind, dragon!" said Faly, stepping away from the wound and covering his ears. After a moment of covering his ears, it came to him that one did not hear mental messages.

Abandoning any notion to hide his mind (or ears) Faly returned to the work of cleaning the gash. He sighed, "I can't get a few of the rocks out without putting the dragon of some magic..." thought Faly, wiping the bloody blade of his pantleg, "best thing is to out him to sleep, but I'm not shure he would trust me doing that." Flay rubbed his face absentmindedly in contemplation, getting dragon's blood all over it, "other option is to numb him, but if he has complications the nerves in the whole leg are f***ed."

Faly made a light jog so that the dragon could (porbally) see him fully. Clearing his throught to get the dragon's attenction, Faly spoke, "I have bad news. I cannot fully clean the wound right now. To make shure it doesn't get infected, I have to use some magic on you." he began, "Either I can put you to sleep for a time, the best choice by my standard, or  I can temporally make the nerves in the area go dead for a time, you would be awake and well, just feel no pain. Only problem with the numbing method is that you would not be able to move your leg, and, if you get a clot or I take too long and can't reverse the spell, your leg will be forever numb and useless." Faly added in a sarcastic tone, "Only other options are sew it up as is and let you live with rocks inside you, or let it get infected and have to amputate the whole leg..."

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)

Stay out? I can't speak you moron! He snapped, connecting his mind back to Colum's. It's either this or I grunt at you, and you'll complain about that too! Ulkna groaned and sighed.

Colum then spoke. Magic huh? Humans know magic? Interesting... He said. Then he got angry. Humph. My legs are fine, idiot! It's my side. You aren't using ANY magic on me! Do you think I'm stupid?! I'm fine! It's nothing! He groaned again as he tried to get to his feet. He managed, then tried to step forward, then the pain pulsed through his side and his back legs collapsed underneath him. He growled as he tried again. Then he gave up and merely sat down.

Argh! He yelled. Alright then Colum. Do what you want. As I said, you cannot kill me even if you tried. But I warn you - any wrong actions you'll regret it forever. Clear? At that, he lay down again in a pool of his own blood. And Colum... tell me honestly. Are you doing this out of the goodness of your own heart, or just to save your skin?

He disconnected his mind from Colum's again and thought to himself, Sometimes I wish I was mortal. Then death could come and make the pain go...
