Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
"You watch your mouth." Ulkna growled. "Or else I'll tape it together. You should want to serve your king. Just think, that axe you are making could one day deliver the final blow to an enemy. It could win a war. Now, again, shut up and GET BACK TO WORK!" He suddenly bellowed in his face.
Most of the slaves froze, others stared. As soon as Ulkna turned and looked at them, they continued. Then he remembered why he was there.
"Everyone!" He yelled. "Stop and listen to me!" They stopped and looked. "There was a slight... confrontation earlier, and the left front tower on the palace is in need of repairs. This is where you come in. Starting tomorrow, all of you will get to work on repairing it. Scaffolding and tools will be provided, all you need to do is show up. And if any of you are missing... I'll hunt you down and punish you severely. Am I clear?"
Most of the slaves nodded. "Good." Ulkna said. "Now, back to work." They did as they were told as he walked back out towards the throne room.
((OOC: Remember that Ulkna's army were going to attack the village? They aren't, forget it now. Too much is happening, there's no time.))

Zeel was relieved when he heard the news. He would be able to take a break from this job for a day.
"Yeah, I'll be there..." he said, just a bit reluctantly. "I would probably be able to work on a tower more effectively if my wing bonds were removed..."

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum frouned at Zeel, relating to his situation, knowing all too well what it was like to be trapped. Shaking his head, as if to shake the froun and bond to Zeel to the floor, Colum turned to face Ulkna.
"Well... you put your, err, claw on it. I'm nimble, and quiet... and not one for organised rules. So, I don't think I'll make a great rank and file trooper.", said Colum, trying to look Ulkna in the eye. Thinking that a glance into his eyes would give him more information about the dragon then hours of conversation.
Wile waiting for an answer (and catching on that if Ulkna looked him in the eye, his brain would go numb, makeing eye contact pointless) COlum looked back at the miserable slave dragon who was looking bleakly at a lump of cold steel. In that moment, Colum had an appifiny.
"How much do slave dragons normally go for?" asked Colum, a scheme forming in his minds eye.

"You would die. It's for your own safety that you do not follow us. If you do, we'll know, and we will not be as sympethetic as now." Aura said as her eyes flashed to show her meaning.
(remember, she still has her demon eyes.)
( i know. )
Slinx backed up in a jerk almost falling from Aura's flash in her eye. "Isn't it worth taking the risk? i haven't seen another life form out here in months. i'm relieved to see at least someone out there. I take this better to risk my life going with you guys then to go out for who knows how long just to find another life form." Slinx said.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
((OOC: Powerful post coming up. Read carefully.))
Ulkna decided to take a shortcut to the throne room through the dungeons. While walking through its dark, damp and depressing corridors, suddenly, something grabbed his front ankle.
A young human girl looked up at him weakly from in her cell. She was dirty, pale and very thin. "Please Your Majesty..." She croaked. "We need food and water. Please. We beg of you."
Ulkna stared down at the girl and scowled. "Humph. I can't believe the one human I managed to capture is as useless as you are!" He snapped, trying to walk away. But the weak frail girl somehow managed to keep her grip.
"Please Sire. We won't last long--"
"Let go."
"Please!"
"I command you to let go!"
The girl started to cry. "Please Sire. We beg you..."
The voice came back. What a nuisance. And how disrespectful to her king. She needs to be punished.
Ulkna automatically did as he was told. ((WARNING: BLOODY BIT!)) He glared at the girl's hand and focused. She realised what was happening, her eyes wide and pleading, but before she could whip her hand away, it exploded. She screamed in pain and shuffled back into her cell, clutching her stump, her eyes wide in terror.
Ulkna didn't stop there. His connected his mind with hers and realised pulses of dark energy into her head. She clutched her head, screamed and lay on the floor, fitting uncontrollably.
Ulkna kept this up for a minute or so, then stopped. The girl seemed to smile through her tears in relief that the pain was gone. Her stump bled violently and she stared at Ulkna in pure fear, then started to howl.
"SHUT IT!" Ulkna screamed. "Now! I am your king! You eat when I say you eat. You drink when I say you drink! GOT IT?!"
The girl nodded slowly while she wailed. Ulkna continued along the corridor and walked past Idris, who was trying to hide his horror.

Colum grumbled at the fact that his words (OOC and my post, gang it!) had fallen on deaf ears). Turning back to the servent dragon who had threatened him, he asked with a wry grin, "I'm guessing you arn't very good at this blacksmithing gig are you?", without waiting for a reply, Colum continued, leaning over closer to the young dragon and lowered his voice in an attempt to avoid being overheard, "would you be intrested in working for me instead?"

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum had been banking on the dragons willingness to hear his proposition. But the actual line of work he was going to ask the dragon to do for him was something Colum had never discussed with a dragon before.
"How much weight can you carry with those things?", asked Colum, running a hand along te dragons soot covered wings. As Colum touched them, it struck him as odd. He had been expecting something cold and scaly and slightly slimy, what he felt was nothing like that. It was warm, solid, muscular and rather inviting (he would have found it a rather nice cloak). As if burned by the sensation, Colum withdrew his had quickly and absent-mindely rubbed his fingers agaist his palm.

Zeel thought for a minute. "I don't know exactly," he began, "but I've once delivered two whole suits of dragon platemail, which is much heavier than the human equivalent to compensate for our size. Of course, it was rather exhausting, but I managed." He began to wonder what Colum was planning."

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Colum was confused, "What the hell was he doing carrying armor for dragons?", he wondered, then it struck him, "oh ya...blacksmith slave, all comes togher." Colum rubbed the few jewls he had pickpocketed from his last mark. "Is this a good way to spend my earnings?", he wondered, looking at Zeel. "He could be a lifesaver, also make trips alot easyer... maybe even a nice bit of company...".
Colum stopped touching his loot and asked the dragon, "Are you a dragon who has a strong sence of morals, the diffrence between right and wrong, a strong conscience, and aspire to be a holy ma... dragon later in life?", Colum paused, then continued, "Be very careful how you anser this question, it dictates your future, if you get my drift.", finished Colum in a voice he intended to impress upon the dragon how important the next words out of his mouth were to his quality of life, but not to be menacing.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
Zeel was thinking for a minute. Well, he thought, while I have always been a bit of a freelancer, I've never taken any job that I thought would give me nightmares. Then again, I've never been loyally bound to one person...
He pondered for some time. After a while, he replied with "I guess I am...", with just a bit of uncertainty.

Colum smirked, saying "See how that's workin' out for ya'?" Colum snubbed his nose, leaned on weapon rack and continued, "I'll make you a deal. If I can buy you off your master, would you be up to beaing my partner? I have a need for some good conversation, and you look like you have some intresting tales to tell."
"That and you can fly.", thought Colum, extending his hand to the dragon in an attempt to shake his hand.
"But, if I do this for you, there are gonna be a few ground rules, but we can go over those later.", said Colum, as he retracted his hand, expecting the dragon to have no idea what shaking a hand would have to do with anything.

He gripped the human's hand firmly and squeezed lightly, trying not to hurt him.

Colum stiffened when the dragon shook his hand. He hadn't expected the dragon to shake, and when when the dragon had moved he expected that it was in a rage over something and was going to kill him. When he understood what was happing after a few tense seconds, he smiled, "Perfect," Colum said, "and now all that we must do is find the dragon is question. But before that, I'd like to know the name of the dragon I'm buying..."
Colum glanced about, as if hoping that the great beast would be convenitly to his left. Finding no such conveience, Colum frouned. "Would you happen to have any idea where he went?"

Zeel shrugged. "Today was the first time I've met him. Anyways, my name is Zeel. What is yours?" He was beginning to feel comfortable with this human. Of course, it did help that the human in question was buying him out of slavery.

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
"Let's hope he doen't ask too many questions," thought Colum warily, "God knows that too much knolage is like falling on a sword."
"Some call me Colum, others Falyindin. I prefer Colum myself, but the nickname you don't want sticks, ya know?", replyed Colum, casting about for a chair or something to sit on. "But enough about me, tell me something of your upbringing." Colum sat down on an anvil that wasn't being used, "and dont tell me that there isn't much of a story. I have a feeling you wern't born with a hammer in your claws smelting steel." Colum snickered, "It's painfully ovious that you wern't by the look of that poor heap of ore in front of you."
Colum diddn't notice just how friendly he was being to the dragon. This had much to do with Colum seeing much of himself in the dragon, thus, he was very willing to relate to Zeel. Of corse, he realised that the dragon was not him, and wasn't overly keen on telling Zeel his whole life story. (OOC that and his creator is still havving a small civil war over exactilly how his past did play out

Re: A Dark Age Dawns... (Please read warning in 1st post)
"Well," Zeel started off, "I used to be part of a small dragon tribe. Although at first we were rather nomadic, we eventually came to a forest that provided us with all the meat we needed. I hunted a lot there, but I realized that I wanted to look around a bit." Zeel tried to see if he was boring Colum, then continued.
"So I visited many cities, staying awhile in each. I made most of my living hunting or doing many different jobs. It was okay. Then I managed to cross into human lands. They thought I was a raider, and chased me off and even managed to shoot me once. Took quite some time to get the arrow out... eventually, though, I visited this city. All I remember was getting hit hard on the back of the head by something, and I woke up as a slave." The memory made him cringe.

Colum leaned back in his anvil chair (and had to restabllize himself as he nearly fell off), and thought for a moment, "So there are many dragon citys? Nice... and nomad-dragons, even better..."
"What about your family? Where do they come into play in this story?", asked Colum, leaning foreward (managing not to fall off) and looking at Zeel, more of at his wings then his eyes, remembering how they felt. He rubbed his palm absent-mindedly again at the thought.

"Ah, my family..." Zeel tried to recall what he knew. "Well, my mother taught me how to hunt, and my father was basically a scout for us. Of course, we can fend for ourselves much earlier than humans can, so I left as soon as I was a capable hunter and flyer."

Slinx fired an ice shard into Aurgal's leg and then summoned a hail storm. "I'd rather die by your hands then if i can't go." Slinx's eyes glowed ocean blue. He runs past and takes to the air, preparing for another possible attack from Aurgal.

"Family, what a load of crap," thought Colum letting his face wrinkle like a prune, "it's the gods' showing there collective scense of humor.", he then chuckled and thought, "And I always thought I could take a joke."
After inwardly laughing at his oun humor, Colum looked at Zeel, realizing that he had no idea how old this dragon was. "How old are you Zeel?" asked Colum, then he clairafied, not knowing the dragon calender, "how many winters have you seen fade into spring?"

(...Your character really is not that smart, is he? The worst possible thing he could do was attack him. I just want to move on and this is stalling me. Can we end this?)
"Now you've done it." Aura sighed as she watched her twin go berserk and start to wildly attack him, not caring if he got hit or not.
