Nightwish fans

Anyone here knows Nightwish?? It's a finnish band very famous in it's country and in many places in the world... wondering if there are some fans around here... :-P  it born in 1996 with the original band composed by Tuomas Holopainen (songwriter, keyboardist), Emppu Vuorinen (guitarist), Jukka Nevalainen (drums, added later) and the singer Tarja Turunen. in 2001 Marco Hietala (bass guitar and male vocalist)joined the group after a prequel period of contrasts among the members... The last album was made in 2004/2005 before the band broke up... Later with time they improved their music, the sonority and the complexity of their work, achieving many music awards and reaching many top 5... After the departure of Tarja Turunen a new singer as taken her place, Anette Olzon... this changement ahs stated a new twist in Nightwish music... The album with the new singer was released in 2007... A new album should be released soon... the ex- singer, Tarja, has released her solo album in 2007 too... many speculation tell that the reason of their separation lies in her marriage with the former Nighwish manager... there aren't sure news about this thing... only fan speculation...

So.... in the end, after giving you a short description, i'm still wondering if there are fans of Nightwish in this forum...except Saphira I knew already to be one of them! big_smile

Re: Nightwish fans

I like The Kinslayer and Tutankhamen and some others, but I'm not a real fan. Their music is very, very cool indeed. *Waiting for Saphira to post* big_smile

Re: Nightwish fans

Yep, I hoped you'd give me a mention!  big_smile

I love NW. Honestly they're my favourite band ever. They've even beaten Within Temptation and I never thought that was possible. NW have kicked WT's @$$, quite frankly (but I still love them).

I have recently managed to collect all 6 full-studio albums, including the E.P, making 7 albums in total. I love each and everyone of them. My favourites are Angels Fall First (their debut album), Oceanborn (2nd) Century Child (4th) and Once (5th), but like I said, I love them all.

Their music blows me alway. You hear the word "metal" and think screamo etc etc. NW are nothing like that. Their genre is called power metal and it involves lots of use of keyboards, overall giving it a very synthetic sound. From Century Child onwards, they added some orchestral elements, hence turning the genre to symphonic power metal. Best genre ever in my opinion.

And ex-vocalist Tarja is very operatic. I never thought that opera and metal could go so fantastically well before I started listening to NW. New vocalist Anette has a less unique voice. Some have criticised her for being too "poppy" for the genre, but I like her.

Phew! On an end note, metal fan or not, check them out if you have time.

And thanks Rykan for letting me make my longest post so far! big_smile

Haha, yeah! Her singing actually fits very well to the Power Metal (DragonForce is also oficcially called Power Metal, but nvm 'bout that)
It is not the band I love very much, but yeah, the music just rocks! The egyptian tune in Tutankhamen, the cool rythm in The Kinslayer... Their songs are just extremely catchy!

Re: Nightwish fans

Tutankhamen and Kinslayer are certainly not their worst. King Tut's song is one of my favourites off Angels Fall First. And Kinslayer is one of their most popular songs.

But yes, definitely check out some more of their stuff. Have you heard Nemo? Sleeping Sun? Eva? What other ones have you heard?

Hmm... I may just get a NW avatar...

Re: Nightwish fans

I wasn't meaning that those songs are their worst... just compering them with other songs that are waay better... just saying those songs aren't the best to describe Nightwish qualities...

Re: Nightwish fans

Oh I know that, it's OK. smile NW do have better songs, I agree. Ghost Love Score and The Poet and The Pendulum for example. I was just giving my interpretation of them, that's all.

Re: Nightwish fans

Of course I will.  smile We'll miss you! Be sure to announce when you're back.

Anyway, has anyone seen the End of An Era performances? I have the DVD. It's a phenomenal concert. Why the heck wasn't I there?! I was meant to be!   :'( (Perhaps it was to do with the fact that it was 2005 and I hadn't heard of them yet...  roll )

But you can see all EoaE performances on good ol' YouTube.

NIGHTWISH!!!!!!!

YAYS!!!!!!!

Purple Dragon King was a name I developed over time as I began to go from closet Spyro fan to open Spyro fan. It has significance to me not just because of Spyro but it is also my favorite color and my first girlfriend called me by PDK. So next time you see my post think of the king of purple!!!!!!!
