Playstation 3 Slim has been confirmed!

Just watched the live Gamescom blog and it has been confirmed that the 120GB PS3 slim will be $299 in september. Also the 80GB models will be $299 as well supposedly starting tomorrow. Nonthing was mentioned about backwards compatability being available in the Slim though.

So I would not trade in a ps2 towards it if you want to keep playing those games.
$299 is still great for people who wanted to get the system at one point.

I agree the ps2 is a great game system with a huge library of games.

My parents were skeptical about getting me a PS3 because of the cost and size... But now I bet they will get it =P.

Though I wonder why they will keep the 'old' 80GB PS3 for 299 when you can get a newer, better 120GB one for the same price...

Yeah, many people hate the price more than anything. I mean, XBox 360 is a very similar console, and that is around half the price. Probably because it's a bit older, but you know what I mean.

Okay everybody i have gone onto the playstation website and found out that a certain model of 80GB PS3 is backwards compatible with some PS1 and PS2 games!

tea, same, well my PS2 has kinda died already, kinda falling apart, might be getting an 80 GB PS3 (hopefuly i'll buy the certain type of PS3 that plays PS2 games)

I don't even think they make that model anymore. So you would probably have to buy it used.

Now that all the game systems connect online... There is really no reason to make a Playstation 4, Wii 2, or Xbox 720 (or whatever they will be called).

Basically, you just connect them online, and you can get updated software that will allow you to play more. The only reason that you would upgrade would be for better hardware, and games would just get better.

Kind of like how computers are now...

I was about to think about the same thing as well. Why play the glory of HD-gaming if you want to root yourself into a simpler time like Boulder Dash, classic Super Mario, and in appearance of the recent years, Cave Story! You really must love the rabbit-like race a robot-boy must save! :3

To keep on-topic, the minor or major consequences of having a PS3 slim: it may be slower than the old PS3!
