Re: Nervous about high school
The hardest thing is learning where everything is. I noticed that freshman usually have themselves worked into a groove within a week or so. Most of your classes are all freshman, so it's not like you'd be with other classes, and people you don't know.
Also, seniors can't do initiations anymore, so nothing to fear there.

Re: Nervous about high school
Just have fun! There's really nothing that scary about it. The worst thing has already been stated by LoneKnight which is learning where everything is. Especially when my school has 2 floors..
But anyways, become friends with many people. It'll benefit you in many ways
. And perform in many extracurricular activities for they will benefit your future.

Re: Nervous about high school
I'm the same as ontels, except I live in Australia. But if you have a relative or a good friend who's in a senior class(in the same school), you'll feel much more secure, trust me. I'm in year 8 and my brother is in year 12, we don't get along, but at least I have someone to help me and it made me a lot more secure, especially when I started High School last year.

In canada, grade 1-6 is elementary school, 7-9 is middle school, and 10-12 is high school. I just passed grade 8, so I guess I will be in grade 9 when the fall rolls in.

Re: Nervous about high school
Huh, we're almost in the same situation, difference is my school is small. It's been said too many times to me, and I'm saying it here: the secret of all this hardness is time-management. If you can't manage your time, then don't even bother going to school anymore. Seriously, if you put in your head your schedule, you'll see that it'll actually be a light task.

Re: Nervous about high school
in the UK we have 3 types of schools
Nursery (3-4 years old) (optional school the parents choose whether their children go or not)
Primary (5-11 years old) (first proper school have to go to)
Secondary (11- 16 years old) (school that GCSE's are done last 5 years of school)
secondary you could call high school in a way and yes most people are nervous about going to a larger school than the previous one i was worried about going to secondary but its fine honestly you have nothing to worry about ![]()

Re: Nervous about high school
Gr. It all confuses me so much. Why can't the world just be simple and keep all the grade levels and ages the same..? In my German class, we talked about this too. The school system there is weird. That was in my Freshman year. I'm a Junior now and still confused about it.
Wow. I was really confused on how to word that for some reason.. ![]()

Re: Nervous about high school
I have the same school system as DragonFireOKN. I live in the US. Going into High School next year too. I'm a little worried, but not that much. I think it'll take a while to adjust to the really huge school, but other than that, I don't think there's much to wrry about.

Re: Nervous about high school
School in Australia
Preschool
Primary School: kindergarten to 6
High School: 7 to 12.
Personally I prefer schools in the US. Because, from what I've seen on TV,
-You don't have school uniforms
-You have lockers(We don't have lockers at our school. We have all our books in our bag, which we have to carry everywhere)
-Your school is indoors. (So her is aus after having a class and looking at a white sheet of paper you come out in the sun which makes things a bit blue).
-You have more extra ciriculum activities.
-And since our schools differ, I can't relate to tv shows because nearly all of them were filmed in the US.
-You have a chance of being in a movie or tv show, just by simply going to a school.
That's why I'd prefer schools in the US.

Re: Nervous about high school
Hmm...here's a little thing I doubt you all knew. You know how Freshman, Junior, and Senior sound normal, but sophmore sounds like a weird word? Sophmore traces its roots to Socrates and another latin word that means stupid and in which the modern day 'moronic' is derived from.
So, a sophmore means, intelligent fool.

Actually its:
Kindergarten (4 y/o)
Pre Primary (5 y/o)
Primary School (Year 1 to 7)
High School (Year 8 to 12)
We have lockers and I live in Australia and we can have heaps of extra-curriculum activities.

I...kinda... agree with that literal meaning...
...because through our whole family bloodline, all of our worst grades were when we were second year of either college or high school.
I didn't have a great second year myself (last year), and compared to this year, it's so low.

Re: Nervous about high school
In my school district, it's:
Elementary:K-3
Intermediate:4-6
Middle:7-8
High:9-12
Weird, huh?
I graduated from 8 this year but I am a year younger than the rest in my class.

I'm liking high school so far. It's bigger than middle school, so you can make a lot more new friends. ^_^ I'm going to be in 11th grade this year (Junior).

Re: Nervous about high school
I'm going to high school, also. I am a little hyped up about it, but I think it'll be fun. I have a few friends who are going to the same school, so I think I'll be ok.
What worries me, though, is sitting in rows. I can't stand sitting in rows. They even had us in groups back in my middle school. The only time I sat in rows was in my math class, since we gave my teacher a seriously hard time. xP
The thing I'm most worried about is finding where everything is, but I can find my way around eventually, I hope. Another great plus is that they don't have lockers where I'm going, thank God, which means I don't have to worry about any jammed lockers or forgetting combinations. =]
Yeah, so I'm a little jittery about it, but I'm sure it will be fine. And hopefully fun.

You forgot that you still have to work for high school credits, I mean if you use them. ![]()
