Grenade in main street
Bomb disposal experts, police and fire crews descended on the northern New South Wales town of Willow Tree last night after a child discovered a hand grenade in the main street.
The incident took place shortly before 600pm AEST, forcing the evacuation of local residents and the establishment of a 100-metre exclusion zone.
All traffic on the New England Highway was blocked for five hours.
Willow Tree local David Warmoll says an army convoy passed through the town yesterday and it is believed the unexploded device fell off one of the trucks.
"It's not an old war relic, it's a new grenade," he said.
"A little boy, only around about eight or nine, he found it on the side of the road and wondered what it was.
"He then went to his father, never picked it up or anything like that.
"He just observed it and then informed his father about it and then [the father] rang 000 and told them of the incident."

Re: Grenade in main street
Main street isnt the name of the street. It would just be the street that has the most shops. I assume the media run the story up a bit and just put 'main' in front of street to make it sound more important
