Dragon's flight mechanism

Yeah, I think the electricity was a spark in the roof of the mouth which ignited a flamable substance that the dragon could expel. But I can't remember how they flew, the guy in the film was a scientist so he explained it with science which means it was probably something like a gas bladder or something like that.

Ok, maybe not a scientist, but he was some sort of educated individual, he did something with books anyway so maybe he was a librarian or something.

The guy in the film was called Peter Dickenson, a poor, dreaming scientist/inventor who was transported into the failing world of magic. Therefore I was right the first time.

I don't imagine many people have. It's quite an old film produced in 1982, it doesn't get shown very often on TV and its probably hard to find in shops. Then again I'm no expert, that may only be the case where I live.

I saw that film and absaloutlly adored it!

It was actually based on a book wrote by Peter Dickinson, explaining how Dragon might fly, breath fire and live if they were real. So the explenations in the movie were allmost belivable, my onlly problem is because of the way they fly in the movie they had to be pretty fat in the air. :-P

Yeah, being fat doesn't exactly keep the image of dragons soaring majestically through the air, does it? That's why there are so many different explanations. You just have to pick the one that makes sense to you and fits well into what you think would be acceptable.

By the way.. is that movie a cartoon?? i guess i found it in youtube.... but i didnt found with legends and my english isnt that good <_<

Yeh it is a movie, but the word legend wasnt in the title of flight of dragons though.

when i say legend, i mean those words in the screen to translate what the guy says... i tough that was the word, guess i was wrong o_O

i found the movie, without the "legend" or whatever.... ive watched only the 1st part, but looks cool, guess i will search for more...

The only other meaning for legend i can think of is search, but i can sort of see what your saying. I havnt looked for the film as i got it on video, it explains quite well how both dragons fly and breath fire, but its only oen explanation afterall.

If someone would be crazy enough to make two wing like frames and place thick cloth and manually controlled hydrogen jets facing downward attach to the edges of the frames... that would be something to see. One problem though, you would have to remove your clothing so you don't have any unwanted wind resistance. Sky sliding with no cloths on... too risky. It might be safer in controlled wind tunnel testing area.

Thermal heat like it is used in a hot air balloon... it makes sense in a way but then you would have flames bursting out from the wings and wind up catching on fire once the hydrogen makes contact with the oxygen in the atmosphere. That makes me wonder if the lungs of a dragon would absorb the oxygen and replace it with carbon dioxide or something else. I'm on a roll now... tongue

Well if dragons were real, then they would most likely have a the pterodactyl type structure... Hollow bones filled with air, enlarged respiratory system, and strong wing muscles.

That as may be, but you have to take how do they breath fire into account when talking about if they are real or not, which they arent. In that film flight of dragons the dragons fire breath was related with how they fly.

Breathing fire has many theories. Venom with a spark pouch, a platinum compound that ignites from air, tooth enamel that ignites hydrogen...

You also have to remember that the movie also made them look like blimps...
