Re: General Discussion - 2

Wow, and the last "Talk About Anything" [now "General Topic"] thread got
to about 1,500 posts before getting trashed. So that's about ... 2,500
posts.

... wow. You people talk a lot.

The Bible says to eat of the meat from moving animals, etc. If vegitarians
believe that eating meat isn't okay, and it is mere slaughter, then they
are wrong. We are supposed to kill animals and eat of their body.

Re: General Discussion - 2

Though I don't agree with the bible part, I agree with you. Besides, it's not like they kill the animal right when it's born. They have to be raised to an adult, first. When you think about it, think about how much meat there is in fast food places and resturants, along with grocery stores and butch shops. Think of how many cows, chickens, and pigs are eaten all-together in one day. There needs to be more than that much every day. And it's clear that the farm animals aren't going to die out anytime soon. They're raised mainly for their meat and their dairy products like milk, butter, and eggs. If we didn't eat any of them, they would be either overpopulated or they wouldn't even be around much.

I can't think of a life without meat.

Re: General Discussion - 2

Cornys- No. Vegetarians don't follow the crowd, they're a minority. They are the few people who have looked at the idea of meat-eating in depth, and decided, despite previous habits, that they'd rather be vegetarian. How can you say they don't think for themselves! And perhaps being vegetarian is turning away from a fully natural omnivorous human, but if we can survive on only vegetables, then it is also fully natural to do so. If we have a choice, the most popular one isn't always the best.

Bmah- No, I'm not vegan. Hypocritic, perhaps, but I'm saying that it's morally and socially wrong, two things I've never had much fancy for. Mass depravation for you and several world problems solved.

Swaffy- ... Okay, I'm not even going to bother adressing that quote. Hinduism says it's wrong, Christianity say it's fine.

Aicebo- Battery chickens are raised in about two months. Bullocks are given six months in some places, and need I go into the horrific suffering caused by thanksgiving? Turkey slaughter. And farm animals wouldn't survive long in the wild, but they are the number 1 reason for global warming, as I adressed a little bit.

I'm holding you all in a debate. So either I have the better side in this argument, or am merely the better debater.

Re: General Discussion - 2

Did you know that animals aren't sentient or sapient??

Re: General Discussion - 2

Go on, explain. In full knowledge that we are animals.

I could argue, with the argument you will put forward, that no other life than my own is sentient or sapient.

Re: General Discussion - 2

Animals simply do not have the mental capacity to be either. It's just instinct.

We do, though.

Re: General Discussion - 2

Okay, I was thinking of a different, better argument.

Are you saying dolphins who actively show intelligence are just "instinct"?
Are you saying dogs you learn their names and commands are just "instinct"?
Are you saying that, with no evidence in your favour, animals have no minds?

Basically, you are arguing with the idea you have formed, which basic witnessable evidence is against. Seriously, perhaps we are the smartest creatures on the planet, but members of mensa don't assume you lot are acting on instinct. Accept animals have minds, inferior as they may be, or face facts and a real beating debate-wise.

I'm getting sick of this. If you guys don't quit arguing or "debating" after this post, this topic will be locked.

All animals have some learning capability. (e.g. an animal that is repeatedly tapped before a water jet is shot at it will brace itself for the water jet after a tapping). That does not equal sentience.

Sentience requires emotion and self-awareness.
Sapience requires wisdom, and the ability to do advanced problem-solving (not including basic action/reaction).
