A severe similarity!

Have any of you noticed that Dawn of the Dragon is very similar to the Lord of the Rings?
I mean think about it... The Village land in DotD looks kind of like Hobbiton from LotR. As well as the Volcano of Malefor is just like Mordor of the Lord of the Rings...
one thing that really caught me, the character... Spyro (DotD) and Frodo Baggins (LotR) are played by the SAME PERSON... Elijah Wood!
And I think that the producers of the Lord of the Rings also helped with the making of DotD! WOW!!!!

I knew that Elijah did the voice of Spyro, but I didn't recognise the other stuff.
It's pretty cool ^_^

Re: A severe similarity!

I have to admit, while I was playing the siege of Warfang, I was thinking, Lord of the Rings spoof. WIT' DRAGONS!

But cheetah village = hobbiton? Uh, nope.

Although Ignintus is such a gandalf.

Re: A severe similarity!

Yes, Ignitus is the archetypical father figure who dies or sacrifices themself. Such clichés are annoying beyond belief.

This is why I don't like DotD; too many clitches in it and etc.

May as well call it the 'Dawn of the Clitche's

Re: A severe similarity!

(reply to Aceedwin)

that's true, Ignitus does play the same type of role as Gandalf.

I can agree that some of the similarities are bogus when compared to the movie and the game... but still, it's pretty interesting...

Re: A severe similarity!

Mark Hamill was Malefor, Jackson. They just distorted his voice to the point it was almost unrecognizable. A pity, Malefor would've sounded more chilling if they left Mark Hamill's voice alone. Yet another cliché, the villain has a "supernatural, booming voice."

Re: A severe similarity!

there are some similarities, of course... Ignitus, the vulcan, Elijah Wood (wow!!! i didnt know HE was Frodo LOL)
also the soundtrack, the golem that could be that creature Gandalf fight in 1st movie (dont remember the name)

I dont care that much about cliches, so i like it anyway but, of course, a more original game would be much better...
They didnt ruined the game, they just didnt go as far as they could...

Re: A severe similarity!

I really wish people who seem to know little about Lord of the Rings would stop using it as proof of there point in this matter.

To start off with, the Chetah Village is noth like the Shire. Do you see any burrows in the village? I sure don't.

As to the siege, well what did you expect? It is a seige. They tend to base them on how real sieges were conducted, with similar types of siege engines (Battering ram, siege towers, ect).

Yes the valcanos were similar, but most are with the exception that the two in question are contuniously erupting. However, they play vary diffrent roles in the two stories. If the One Ring goes in, evil is defeated. If the Destroyer gets back to the starting point, the world is destroyed.

Two characters voiced by the same person is totally meaningless.

And people seem to forget that LoS has to old wise guys. Ignitus and the Chronicler. And Gaundalf does far more active throughout the story and does not die.

Please, drop this comparison till you have properly reseached LotR... say when you know the original name for the main hobit character (one hint, it was not Frodo).

PS: As a bit of trivia, the original concept for the ranger the hobits meet in Bree at the Prancing Pony was an old hobit named Trotter.

Actually, you're technically wrong about that Gwenio. Gandalf did die. Gandalf is a Maiar, like Saruman and Sauron. When a Maiar dies, they are able to reform their body again, like a phoenix. Gandalf makes many references to the Valar; the superiors of the Maiar.

After Saruman was killed, he could only exist as a spirit for his wicked ways, the Valar stripped him of his ability to reform his body. Sauron has been prevented from even becoming a spirit.

Gandalf's body reformed, and the Valar made him more powerful so he could help put an end to Sauron's wicked ways. This was even confirmed by J.R.R. Tolkein and his son.

This is the statement proving such: "Neither Gandalf nor the Balrog was killed by the fall into the deep subterranean lake under Moria. Gandalf pursued the Balrog for eight days until they climbed to the peak of Zirakzigil. Here they fought for two days and nights. In the end, the Balrog was cast down and broke the mountainside with its fall. Gandalf himself died during this ordeal, and his body lay on the peak while his spirit travelled outside of time." He was then subsequently "sent back" as a more powerful being.

Source? Because that is not how The Two Towers puts it. The phrasing in that book does not specifically say that he died, though it could be taken as such (and I suppose many people do, but as it could be otherwise I do not count it). More to the point it could be taken as he almost died, but it was not allowed to happen.

Gandalf in The Two Towers wrote:

Then darkness took me, and I strayed out of thought and tim, and I wandered far on roads that I will not tell.
Naked I was sent back--for a brief time, until my task is done.

In any case, pretty much everything has been done somewhere, so it is no suprise if one can find similarities if they look, and all mentor types are a great deal alike to begin with. If they did get that part from LotR, then at least they took the time to modify the details surrounding it. For instance, the reason they come back is diffrent. Gandalf comes back to complete his task while Ignitus comes back to take on a new task.

Also, congratulations for being the first person to give an intelligent enough reply on the subject of LotR and Los being similar to be worth replying to.

This is old news. Whatever parts of DotD didn't rip LotR ripped off God of War in some way, shape or form. <.<;

Re: A severe similarity!

Ok, I've never even heard of "God of War", so I don't know mmuch of that... but I do know that DotD and LotR are similar. I also heard that the Producers of the film helped create and design the game, so similatities are bound to happen.
