Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

EL wasn't bad considering the small amount of time they did have to work on it. I wouldn't mind if they did another one so long as they actually tried to improve this time around...and if Blizzard gets involved then it still doesn't bother me since they are pretty much veterans in the gaming project industry, and yes, they have a very large amount of cash to fund such things.

Hmm, personally I'm starting to worry Blizz is going to get lazy with all that cash rolling in.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

No. Blizzard is a group of enthusiastic game makers. For example, they dont make the games in the order which one would sell the most. After Starcraft, which was a huge success, the same dev team made Warcraft 3 instead of Starcraft 2 because they wanted like Warcraft more.

My image is that the dev teams are very independent so they can make games in the order they like, and how they like. Of course, the "owners" of the blizzard wont let them go into exaggerations, but they are still pretty much veterans of the gaming industry.

They are working in soooo many game projects atm, dont call them lazy.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

Hard to tell until I see the finished product for myself...but they already have a very good reputation so I doubt they would want to trash it if they ever did make a game...not that they will.

What game projects? I know there's D3, but what else? I haven't heard much from them lately but I haven't been paying attention. All I know I know is from the SC side (SC:Ghost, which went very badly, and how long it took them to decide to make SC2) which colors my opinion of them somewhat.

Personally, I'd prefer a group of lesser known developers with something to prove to make the next game.

Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of "little guys trying to make their name in the video game world" left. Most American/European small guys have been bought by larger corporations. The remaining smaller developers lie further east in Japan. And these companies do make themselves a name with good, quality games. <.<;

Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, making new content for World of Wacraft, Wacraft 4 (yes they have unofficially announced it or more like "slipped" it).

Cant remember anything else but theres plenty of work on those.

I dont really care who makes the game, im just pointing the good points if blizzard would do it.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

Eh...we'll have to see when it comes out....I didn't play the last transformers game....but I'm not really sure if using Krome is a good thing or bad thing.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

Well its a good thing since Krome is now busy and cant ruin another game franchise.

That's partly why I'm ticked with Blizz. They acquired Swinging Ape Studios (which made my fav game), put them to work on SC:Ghost, and since the game was "postponed" they've basically ceased to exist. There go my hopes for a sequel...

Anyway, that's made me refuse to consider them. And I know my idea is unlikely, but then so is the whole Blizz angle.

Yeah it's a far reach no doubt about it....but it's fun to think about such concepts.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

Well, whoever they choose to do the next game, those developers should stay with it, none of this "changing devs for the last game in the series" crazyness.

Consistency would be appreciated.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

Consistency in video game development?....oh yeah that's something we def could use......if only we had one company that was dedicated to making these games look good.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

consistency in games is major.  Although, given the relatively low appeal after A Hero's Tail, Sierra probably did the right thing in starting anew.  I like the old games, but they're more of a kick-back-and-relax sort of thing with their simplicity.  The Legend series gets players a bit more involved in the action.

Unfortunately, the "one company" thing is hard to maintain given his development history.  Moving from Insomniac and Universal to Sierra/Krome/Etranges has given the title an unstable development background.  I've been looking at this for college classes; Sierra would do well to keep Spyro, especially since they have it planned out, but you can't predict the economy.  If money is involved, it's easier nowadays to pass a game and its development plans to another developer than to retain it and try to struggle with it.  Once a game moves, though, anything can happen really since ownership has changed.

Back to the topic; I'd have to go with Etranges myself.  Krome did a good job but TEN was a developmental nightmare IMO.  Overly difficult compared to its predecessor mostly.  I liked the modeling and overall graphical layout of the characters and locations for ANB and TEN, but Etranges' work in DotD was awesome.  The character design change was a bit drastic but it works better than their previous "cute" builds.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

Well, the Krome Studios version of Spyro almost had the feel of the original Spyro to it. I like EL too, but it's kinda hard to choose which developer I would like to make the next Spyro game.

yeah, Krome's design was aiming for familiarity while also giving him a new start.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

Yeah, Krome Studios doing the LoS trilogy almost reminded me of Insomniac doing the Original Spyro trilogy. I think they should do the next Spyro game by Krome. EL did their part in making the last LoS chapter of the trilogy very well, new features like free-flight for Spyro's 10th anniversary.

Well, we don't know what developer will make the next Spyro game. They will probably reveal information about it before or after the release of the Spyro movie.

Re: Krome Studios or Estranges Libellules?

I doubt bungie would deviate from the "awesomeness of HALO" to "stoop down to play with a dragon", but a sandbox would be cool.  They could probably do it too now that the Legend trilogy's Dark Master problems are solved (for the time being, they might have more in store)

I just hope that if they don't go with EL, there will be very little change from DotD's presentation; Spyro's development history is already unstable, which can spell doom for a game line even if it's really popular.  If they keep moving between devs, Spyro will be seen as a "hand-me-down" and thus most likely "not good for business".  What they need to do is secure a dedicated dev.  How easy that is at this point, I have no idea, but I'm probably gonna need to look it up for my classes at some point in the near future X_X

I don't care if EL does the next game, but yes they need to approach in in a manner that includes building upon the elements that they've introduced. We all know that they could certainly improve the quality of their development. EL really only has to work on the overall approach with their gameplay and making sure that the story is very solid.
