For Those Who Play Instruments
Finally, a thread for the people here that play one or more instrument[s].
Go all-out. Tell us about your life story of becoming an instrument player,
tell stories of when you played your instrument. Or, you can talk about
them in general. If you play many instruments, what is your favorite?
We [or I, if it's just me] would like to hear from you.
It's okay to brag here. It's okay to say you are a god at playing your
instrument, or if you totally suck at playing it. But please be truthful about
what you say. We can't detect sarcasm and lies that well in this forum,
anyways.

I'll start off with my story.
My great grandfather was a very famous guitar player in my city. He
owned a beautiful Gibson/Epiphone electric guitar that was made in the
early '70s, worth over $2,000.
Back in January of 2008, my great grandfather was dying. His family
members could not afford to keep him in one hospital, so they kept having
to take him out, and put him at home. Well, he got more sick at home, so
they put him back in a hospital, and the process just repeated. Finally, in
his last hospital, he died from a stroke.
He passed his guitar down to me some time before he died, and somehow
I got good enough at it to play chords until his death. Aside from this story,
my family is made up of worship leaders. They played for most of the
churches we went to. Now, back into the main story. The people who were
holding the funeral asked us to play a couple of songs for his funeral. The
only song I remember in which we did was Amazing Grace. Oh, it was a
sad day, playing his guitar, in which he called his "pride and joy". Because
he was so poor, this guitar was what he cared for the most. His prize
possession.
For a beginning, I played guitar for the Lord, our God. For the church. I
started out playing for the school band, with an old Fender amp and my
grandfather's Gibson.
Now, I play for three bands. Our youth group band, the school band, and
church service band. I now own a beautiful, white Fender Stratocaster, and
a nice Cube 30X amp with built-in effects. My grandfather [not my great
grandfather, the one from my mother's side of the family] will be passing
on his 12 string acoustic guitar to me soon. Which would make it three
guitars total.

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
I've played flute before. One of my best friends gave me his guitar last year. I am currently writing and making a love song for my girlfriend that I''m going to play just for her at a party this weekend.

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
I brought both of my guitars this morning [Tuesday] to play for chapel. I
used my FS-6 Boss footpedal, and amp [of course an amp... lol?]. First \
song, I used the Stratocaster, then switched for the next song, From The
Inside Out [by Hillsong United]. Then switched again for the last song.
The reason for having two guitars is that I get to have my Stratocaster in
DADADD tuning, and Gibson in EADGBE [standard] tuning.
Funzies.
@ John Man 1234: Watch out. Going this far when dating could ruin you
and her heart. There is a good chance that you will break up before
marrying, so writing love songs is a bad idea. Be wise, my friend. But if
you really want to write the song, do it. I can't stop you. : )

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
I use to play the trumpet and cornet. I started because my mom wanted me to do something constructive......but in the end all it did was waste most of my credits on a class that didn't matter.
I still do enjoy pulling it out and playing around once in awhile.....but hasn't happened in a long time.

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
Cool we can brag! Here's my story!:
Well actually we were basically "forced too" because of band/orchrestra/general music in school. Music is one of our main subjects in school. In orchrestra you can decide to play, violin... and that's pretty much it. In band you can choose between a flute, clarinet, drums and bells(both), trombone, and the trumpet. In general music you get assigned to an instrument but the instruments are, drums, rattle, cowbell, and bells.
I chose band because I really wanted to try the flute because it was something small, petite, and elegant like me. .^_^. Tee Hee. I hated how you always got lighthead when you blew to hard into it. But I know it plays beautiflly. (now time for the bragging) I FEEL LIKE I AM THE BEST FLUTE PLAYER IN MY CLASS! Because I am the only one that actually TOUNGES. The other people only BLOW into it.
I wish I could tell a whole lot more but I really am not in the mood right now.... SORRY!

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
That's strange. I fail to see how restraining your kids from learning a musical instrument at a certain age results in any kind of benefit. I started the piano at 3 (more on that later).

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
I guess it was because at the time i was learning piano so my mum probably wanted me to stick with that or something.

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
I'm decent at playing the keyboard, and I can play a couple of songs on it, but I can't really play properly with two hands at once yet, at least both of them doing two different things at the same time...but I love it <3

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
The first time I even came in contact with an instrument was 6 years ago when my mom had me take piano lessons. We had a small Samick studio piano. I never took any intrest. I felt the impression I was being forced. I eventually quit. a year later, I played the flute, I was good at it, but I didn't enjoy it. Then came the violin, but those lessons weren't pleasant at all. It was all just a mess, so, I dumped taking any form of lessons out the window.
Then 3 years ago, I met a friend that owned an Oriental Kawai (not Kawaii D:< you otakus stop bugging me!) grand piano, and that thing just struck me in the face. Compared to my studio samick the thing was a goddess' voice. Everything you played on it sounded good. I guess that got me back into playing the piano again, and Its sad to say the piano that inspired me so much will have to be sold soon. My friend isn't taking it too well either.

Re: For Those Who Play Instruments
Hehe, just started learning guitar, and have played piano for years...
And Shepherds we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee.
Power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command.
So we shall flow river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine patris, et filli, et spiritus sancti.
