Swimming in PE class
I am starting swimming PE within the next few days and I really do not want to. I have the class 2nd period and I do not want to have wet hair and feel wet the rest of the day. Do have any suggestions of what I can do or how to get out of it. A note from a parent won't work b/c my teacher said he will only accept a doctors note.

Are there girls in your class? That may not be a bad deal then. ![]()

Re: Swimming in PE class
I'd hate to go swimming everyday. And I don't like my hair wet either.
If your guidance counselor deals with your schedule, you can try talking to them. Just make up something. I always tell them that I originally signed up for a different class yet I was put in the one I didn't want to be in. Usually works.
And if you're really stuck there, you can always bring a blow dryer.
Or stick your head under one of those hand dryers in the bathroom. I'm sure it would work. :-P

Re: Swimming in PE class
Your only problem is having wet hair? Good grief man!
I go swimming almost everyday, on tuesday and wedneday me and my brother go training on a morning from 5.30-7.30am, then go to school/college. What you're talking about is nothing in my terms, its not being wet thats a pain, its getting up early.
At the end of the day, if it makes you a better swimmer, I doubt you will complain about it in the future. And I don't recommend skipping class or anything like that, it'll come back to haunt you if you get caught. Talking to a teacher about it would be best, though I doubt they will change their whole planned syllabus just for one person. I certainly can't think of a decent excuse, that won't either make you look silly, or that you won't be able to pull off. One or two of the other kids in your class may have a decent excuse for not going into the pool, but keep their mouths shut. How do you think they would feel if you got out of it just because you 'didn't want to be wet all day?' It's more likely that you will have to get over it and get on with it, I'm afraid.

Re: Swimming in PE class
The two best solutions depending on what type of personality you have. The rebellious side will say, wag/skip the class! The other side will say, just do it and get over yourself.
If you REALLY don't wanna do it, then just skip it. But just face it, because later in life you will get use to facing things.

Re: Swimming in PE class
I don't like feeling cold, but I've got to get over it and deal with it, its winter.
I could write you a list of what I don't like but have to deal with, as does everyone else. The teachers aren't going to let you skip a swimming class just for that reason. And you're embarassed about looking bad because you aren't the best swimmer in the class? THATS EVEN WORSE! That's the entire reason you have swimming lessons, to get better!
Sympathy gone, I say you will have to deal with it. Girls have long hair and 'Girly Things' to worry about when they're swimming, so you can hardly moan about feeling wet all day. Dry yourself with your towel properly and blast your hair under a hand-dryer and get on with it.

Re: Swimming in PE class
I personally love the feeling that swimming (or any physical activity, for that matter) gives me, so I cannot say I sympathize with you. However, if you are unable to get out of swimming, then I suggest that you look on the bright side of things (despite my inability to do the same). You'll be healthier, and you won't be as likely to drown if you're ever in deep water.

Re: Swimming in PE class
I think im just going to take pheonix flyers advice and just deal with it. my girlfriend didnt want to swim either but she did today so now i feel more motivated to do it tomorrow. its just at times teens can be so cruel that its hard to want to do things you think you may be moked for because your not good at it.

Re: Swimming in PE class
Dealing with your problems head on is the right thing to do in this case. My last post was the immature side of me speaking lol...so don't pay that any mind. The right thing to do is just take it head on and learn from your experiences. Many of us are faced with problems and commitments that we don't always want to deal with...but dealing with them in a very honest and steadfast demenor will give you a good feeling when it is all said and done.....and who knows...maybe someday you will find that you actually do enjoy swimming more then you did.
That's one of the great things about sticking with something you think you dislike...you never know how you might see it after doing it for a couple years. Anyways just deal with it head on and make yourself a better person for doing so. Taking the easy way out will only grant you less respect in not only your eyes...but the eyes of others.

Re: Swimming in PE class
I meant at my school. We have a leisure centre on site. School's practically in debt because of it, but *bleep* I love the smell of chloine. Does wonders for sore throat.
