URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
My computer was infected by a virus a little while ago (maybe a month) and I destroyed it.
It came back.
I ran many scans and they came up with nothing. Now the Start toolbar thing at the bottom disappeared along with all my icons. The only way I'm getting through is with Alt Tab! PLEASE HELP!

Yes! My dad is a computer person and he said he can't fix it right now. It's really annoying!

If it's not gone and you still need help here, please try to identify or describe the virus to us. But so far, it sounds like you can deal with it by yourself. ![]()

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
Get a mac
Here are some things you could do to get rid of the virus:
Backup all of your files you want to keep.
Go to Run and type:
{Removed. Thats some dumb advice, to tell someone to format their drive. Too bad windows won't format the drive that it is running from
}

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
Macs are not immune. There is already Mac malware.
As Macs gain market share there will be more malware written for them.

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
It made your toolbar disappear? Sounds like an odd virus... most are a bit more subtle and destructive (ex- keylogger steals your password...speaking of which you might want to change yours when you're sure it is gone)
Oh great, my lighthouse is on fire again, be right back...

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
Most malware now days does not steal passwords via keylogger, they decrypt the stored passwords that are inside Internet Explorer and Firefox, aka the "remember my passwords" passwords.

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
I believe it was an explorer.exe error.

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
If your monitor is black, how did you post that? =P
Anyway, do an emergency system restore to the earliest date. Your computer will be recovered exactly as it was on the set date.
If that doesn't work, use the reset button. You'll need a toothpick and a good eye. Somewhere on the back of your computer (bottom if it's a laptop) there'll be a really tiny hole, stick the toothpick in it and your computer will be brought back to how it was when you got it.

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
You could start Task Manager, select New Task and type explorer.exe to get all your icons back.

Re: URGENT HELP PLEASE! VIRUS!
Sounds like something that happened to my computer half a year ago, except my start bar disappeared. It went away eventually, dunno how. And yea, no computer is safe from viruses. If you have a virus scanner, set it to the highest setting (or slowest scan), or if it says set priority, set it to the highest. This WILL cause some lag since your system will focus on the anti-virus program, let it run and go do something while it scans. It might find something.
