NASCAR

Well guys I seam to find myself as an avid NASCAR watcher. I love it for some unknown reason. I know some people do not like it and think it is stupid. But here's your place to say what you feel about it and your opinions of the upcoming races starting 2-7-09 @ 8 p.m. on FOX.
Also I'm a Mark Martin fan. (A lot of up's and downs come along with that within the last few years) I find myself rather excited over the 'Great American Race' (Daytona 500) every year only to be dissapointed each and every time. Now as I'm only 14 I've only experianced this 10 times but I can just feel the history from the old footage I've seen of some of those previous races. Never will I forget the 49th running of the 500 though (2007) wow just

that close. o_O Any how that's all for me. What do you think, feel, ect. about NASCAR. and if you aren't American have you heard of it or seen it?

Off subject: I'm back. I'll not beable to post much on here because I'm pursuing a personal life more agressively now and amonge other things our power has just been returned after four or so days from a snow storm.

Thanks,
cornys

Re: NASCAR

My dad always watches NASCAR, and when I ask him why he likes it he says it's an easy sport to follow when you're hammered.  His and my favorite car is 24.

Re: NASCAR

The 2007 Daytona 500 had the best finish ever!

Nothing against Harvick, but I wish Martin would have won...

I watch NASCAR every time it comes on. Can't wait till' the shootout on Saturday!

What?

Nascar is one of the biggest sports in the U.S. It is even somewhat
popular in Europe and other parts of the world. How is that random?

Re: NASCAR

Well guys I started this thread and left the fourm so I'm back and I'm going to try and revive this thing.

How could NASCAR be random? This is a NASCAR thread... Duh... lol
It's a forum that has a general chat. NASCAR's rather general.

For those who always ask why they should like NASCAR (or any other form of racing) and always say well I don't know. I'm going to tell you right now what I like about it. (having some racing experience(A little with my friends on my 20 Feet wide 4 wheeler track that has dirt banks for outside walls))
What is it that I love in NASCAR? It's the thrill of going as fast as you possably can through a corner that is way too sharp. Nearly running into the guy who's doing the same on the outside of the corner while you try to pass him and not wreck both of you all the while. It's risking your life to win and going crazy at 200 MPH. (For 4 wheelers 40 but hey the track is smaller) The roar of the engines as you are about to engage in battle. 150,000 people watching you and 42 others all chase a common dream; in vehicles that should never make it 50 miles let alone the 500 they do. The cost of one of the race cars used is $32,000. The cost of a half ton pick up new. The things they do to the cars to make them go faster can all be explained by logic and no computer graphics are needed (Unless you're ESPN and you think we're all retards and can't imagine what air does after it comes off of a race car going 200 MPH) Nothing electronic is in any of the Stock cars. They aren't built by machines, but by people, and repaired by them to when something goes amiss on the race track. It's the lives of 43 competiters who know very well what may happen to them on any given weekend. It's the blood, sweat, and tears of each and every of the 300+ people who's work goes into any one race car on any given week. With 43 cars. that's almost 13,000 people who worked on one of those cars on any given week.

F1 and Indy car racing is ok but I'm not going to watch unless you are out there on Daytona or Talledega. THEN I'll watch. Otherwise you are just out there showing what 10 nerds with a good driver, a pit crew, (Which uses a refueling machiene and no athleticizm) and a few hundred computers can do. I love the racing bit of it, but the fact that it's a computer that's brain is behind the car's performance takes away from the experiance. You have people build the cars by hand in NASCAR; rather than have a computer make a perfect computer model and fabricate it then the people put a few peices together and you go racing. A stock car can be built without computers. With nothing more than a welder and the specs you could build a race ready stock car.

I hope you understand what it is about NASCAR that attracts me. DragonFireOKN looks like we're the only ones on here who like NASCAR so what do you think of the season? I think it's been rather boring as far as NASCAR season's go. I'm just glad it's back though. Now if baseball would come back I'd be thrilled and I'd never have any free time. any how who do you like?

Re: NASCAR

Unfortunetely I just never got into the sport. Doesn't appeal to me in the way it does to you. Do I like driving fast cars? Heck yeah I do....but I just can't sit there and watch guys do it for hours and hours.

I do like the strategy that it sometimes requires to emerge triumphant in a race...timing things like the pit stops and passes so that it works out in your favour......but it's just something I couldn't watch and couldn't get a rush out of.

But that's just me....and everyone is different.

Re: NASCAR

I can understand the length problem but once you go to a race you'll see what I mean. You may not like it still but you'll understand a bit more if you go to som place other than Martinsville or New Hampshire. I can understand why you wouldn't like to watch. Some times it does get boring over 3 1/2 hours

Re: NASCAR

I have been to the races around here. Several times...and I know what it's life to be at one. Believe me I understand the concept of the sport just fine and everythin that comes with it. It's just something that doesn't excite me that's all....not everything will be the same for everyone.
