An interesting trend in video gaming...

Ever since the crash of 1985, an interesting trend has been occurring...
Every video game console developer has screwed up big time with their
third console...

Look:

Nintendo Entertainment System: Great
Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Great
Nintendo 64: Had a handful of awesome games but beyond that.......fail.

Sega Master System: Great
Sega Genesis (Megadrive outside U.S.) Great
Sega Saturn: Epic Fail.

Sony Playstation: Great
Sony PS2: Awesome
Sony PS3: Failure in terms of making money. (Sony STILL loses money per unit sold. Has great games but is ignored by public)

Xbox: Decent
Xbox 360: Awesome
Xbox 3 (Not real name): ???

Why does this happen? Will Xbox 3 blow hard? Hard to tell as nothing has been heard of Xbox 3.

Probably a new Xbox will be announced in the next year and will be
released around 2010 or early 2011. Won't be too much longer.

If you don't want to spend a lot of money, by the 360 Arcade version.
($199)

It is likely that Xbox 3 will be able to play 360 games. So you could still
play Halo 3.

Not according to my friends, Xbox Live friends, and Xbox Live news
reports. Bungie should be coming out with a 4th Halo game. Most likely.

Also, a foreign company [I mean foreign to U.S. citizens] is coming out
with a Halo movie. Google it. Or click the link to see the official 8-minute
long Halo Movie prototype.

Re: An interesting trend in video gaming...

I don't even like the Xbox systems as a whole..just never worked for me....as for the PS3...it's great and everything...just too freaking expensive...I'm surprised I payed $400 for it...but I guess now it's worth it...

Re: An interesting trend in video gaming...

There is a new Halo game coming out. BUT, it is NOT Halo 4.

It's called Halo Wars. But it isn't really Master Chief's story. It's sort of a spinoff.

Isn't that suppose to be RTS as opposed to a shooter...I think that's what I saw...

Re: An interesting trend in video gaming...

Well I don't agree with the fact of people saying that other games beyong the N64 made by Nintendo were fail. They were not they were all great but I won't argue. Yes there is going to be another Halo game and yes it's called Halo Wars. It's about a war going on between the Spartans and Covenant. Master Chief is belived to be in a different area, during these events or he hasn't become the Chief yet.

Re: An interesting trend in video gaming...

To my knowledge, Halo Wars is not the official 4th game. Yes, it is another
Halo game, but it isn't and shouldn't be called Halo 4.

Something called Halo: ODST is coming out, and should be the Halo 4, or it
will be the Halo 4, like the picture in that guy's earlier post. Halo Wars is
similar to N Game, a free Internet game, and N+, an Xbox 360 Arcade
game. N+ isn't called N Game 2. It is more like a side-kick.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that Halo Wars is more like a side game
to the main Halo trilogy. That's all I got, though. I may be wrong. Some of
my friends on Xbox Live know people who work for Bungie, and tell us
certain news that is usually not told to the public.

You gotta love Xbox 360 Live... it's pure awesome, now that it has a whole
new layout, template, player avatars, and better game system.

Re: An interesting trend in video gaming...

I wouldn't call the N64 "fail" at all. I remember many fine deathmatches and a few "Thank god I finally beat that boss" moments. Though some things like the graphics always bugged me, I did have fun with it.

Re: An interesting trend in video gaming...

There's a game called Halo Wars, I think M$ just ripped off Quake Wars though...

Anyway, I think the OP is wrong, PS3 wasn't a fail, Xbox didn't fail because it's not released, and heaps of people say the N64 was good.

This thread is epic fail tongue

Re: An interesting trend in video gaming...

The PS3 wasn't a fail...everything about it is just too expensive...and thanks to today's economy...go figure it's not doing so well in the sales.

I mean't it more in this meaning. Up to that point, it was their worst
main console. (Excluding Virtual Boy, which wasn't really a console...)
N64 had great games but had very few games compared to PS1 which
beat the living crap out of it in the console war.

Err, not exactly. Though the series with Master Chief ended, there are still two new games coming this year: Halo 3 O.D.S.T. (Fall 09) and Halo Wars (February 09) Halo Wars is a strategy game and O.D.S.T. is like an expansion.

On the topic of the game consoles, yes your ratings agree with mine, and I am really hoping that the third Microsoft console won't crash and burn. 360 is amazing as is, and I hope the third don't screw up what it's predecessor created.

Re: An interesting trend in video gaming...

Halo:ODST is focused on the story of an ODST in the Halo universe. I wouldn't call it Halo 4, as it doesn't really continue the series.

Halo Wars happens about 20 years before the first Halo game.
