Re: New Spyro game
So you have not played DotD I assume...well if you are a big fan of the originals and pretty closed off to just enjoying those...then I doubt that DotD will impress you. Then again if you are pretty open to the idea and experience...it's not that bad...it is certainly an improvement over the first two in the LoS series.....so I think it's worth a shot to at least try it out.
I doubt it will make your list though lol....but you never know...maybe you will like it 0.o..

Re: New Spyro game
I doubt I'll cough up 50 quid for it, but maybe if it goes down in price, I could get it second hand. And why does everyone mention my list on every forum I join?! I really should change my sig!

Re: New Spyro game
Just go rent it for about $10 first...see if you like it then...but yeah unless you are a real diehard then I wouldn't go buy it.....until the price comes down anyways. IF you can find a copy..the marketing on this game sucks something horrible.

Re: New Spyro game
I like DOTD..as well as the old Spyro games. But if you ask me, it's a good game. I have it for Nintendo DS, and it's a moderatley enjoyable game in my opinion. Although it cost me 37.99 canadian, it's still good!

Re: New Spyro game
It's a pretty good game depending on what you like in games,i bought it for around 40 euro, but i think in awhile it will go down in price. but i think that you should deeply consider buying it or not. People either like this game or don't

Re: New Spyro game
It's a good game..I like it.
But yeah some people like it and some don't.
Hopefully it'll go down in price and not disappear off the face of the earth like it did in Wal-Mart. <_<

Re: New Spyro game
It has disappeared from everywhere over here...I have not been to a single store that is carrying it...at least not for the past three months. Around the mid November period they just disappeared...

Re: New Spyro game
Well they did sell 1,100,000 copies. Here the price has dropped down to $32 for the PS2 so I bought it.
You may like the new one because you actualy have to think a little. (if that's what you like)
I'd rent it first and see if you like it... you may finish it too before you have to give it back.
If tomorrow may never come, and yesterday is just a memory, then what is today worth?

Re: New Spyro game
Well seeing as how PS2 is more advance then PS1...no wonder they cost more when you go them....if it had been the other way around then you would have had something to worry about.

I don't own them all. I have not bought ones I believed unworthy of the time and effort.

I couldn't stand ETD. I shouldn't have even rented it.

Re: New Spyro game
It's just a completely different style. It's not going to cater to every single gamer....so if you want to try it out then just rent it first.

Re: New Spyro game
I love Spyro as much as the next person here, but I don't really agree with what Sierra has been doing to him. It's been years, but I still remember playing Ripto's Rage for hours on end. Eventually I beat the game 100% (go ahead and call me "nerd", cause I am).
Answering your question (I can't speak for TEN since I havn't played it yet), the new LoS games are good, but in my opinion, what kept them from being great was mostly an irritating style of gameplay combined with how Sierra deviated from the "continue the story at your own pace" that the previous games had, into a linear quest with absolutely 0 side quests or mini-games. The boss fights were pretty fun though.
This is my personal DotD rating breakdown: (1 to 10, 10 is highest)
AUDIO: averages out to 7.8
general sound: 9
music: 9
acting: Elijah Wood as Spyro: 9
Christina Ricci as Cynder: 9 (felt she wasn't given enough dialogue)
Gary Oldman as Ignitus: 9
Wayne Brady as Sparx: 7
Malefor: 5 (because they royally screwed with Mark Hamil's actual
voice, poor guy. He's a great actor too. Sierra really
fubarbed this one)
Blair Underwood as Hunter: 8
Screenplay/Dialogue: 6
VIDEO: averages out to 7.8
general graphics: 9
character design: Spyro: 9, Cynder: 9, Sparx: 8, Ignitus: 8,
Hunter: 8, Malefor: 8.5, Volteer: 7, Cyril: 8,
Terrador: 8, Chronicler: 8.5, Hermit: 7,
Prowlus: 7, Meadow: 7, Mason: 6
ENGAGEMENT: averages out to 6.75
general gameplay: 6
replayability: 6
not so challenging that you start getting irritated: 6
not so easy that you get bored after 10 minutes: 8
boss battles: 7.5
overall story: 7
Final Rating: (7.8 + 7.8 + 6.75)/3 = 7.4 (This is about a C+ on the grade scale)
Of course this is just my opinion, but I hope it helps.
The best advice I can give is rent it first and see if you like it enough to buy it. I was lucky and got it as an early Christmas gift from my older brother who gave it a 7/10.
