Re: The Dragon Way

Once again Dio awoke from another sleepless night, shaking weakly. He'd had the same dream over and over. Taunting him. He knew what he had to do to stop these nightmares, but he had no idea where to start. There were thousands of dragons, and was he supposed to go up and ask them all? No... that would never work. Dio thought for a moment. Suddenly, torches illuminated the fields behind him.

"What?" Dio stammered, and cursed himself for making noise. The torches could be anyone, the dragons come to search for him, bandits, ordinary travellers. He couldn't take the risk of being seen. He had to escape, eyes darted each way, he headed into the forest, and  leapt from tree to tree into the canopy.

The torches illuminated the faces of their bearers. Bandits. Dio reprimanded himself for sleeping in fields. He could have been easily found. He waited till the torches passed beneath him, and headed away from the dragon capital, his life torn up, ready to start anew...

Re: The Dragon Way

Cecile let go of the remains of the banana. It landed with a splat in the pile of pulp Cecile had spat out while eating... or rather, sucking out the juice of the fruit. (Mmmm... appetizing)

Cecile stretched out her wings and took off from the tree. She flew high into the air and used her echo-vision to find a clear or relatively safe path. Out of the corner of her eye, she was a flicker of orange. Soaring higher, she looked down. A camp... no, too big... some kind of village... with a fire burning - that explained the flicker of orange. She sent echos down to the village below, and was surprised at what they returned to her. She quickly descended, and crashed into a tree. Dazed, she tried several more times to roost before she finally suceeded. The other three were all staring at her. "Find anything?" Katrina asked.

Re: The Dragon Way

Ivy watched Wedger get dragged off by Cyra and sighed.
"Would you like to dance?" She looked up and saw Cory standing there. She was caught off guar and stammered.
"S-Sure." He held out a claw, Ivy took it, and Cory hoisted her up. Then, they walked to the dance floor.

Re: The Dragon Way

OOC: When you say "dance floor" I think of "disco." |:>(

IC: "Yeah... well, not a path, but..." still a bit dazed from her crash-landing, she shook her head and began, "Well, I was looking for a path, but then an orange flicker caught my eye. I looked down and saw a village down in the valley below... it isn't too far away, actually. So anyways, I used my echo-vision to see what kind of creatures were inhabiting it. There were cats-" Katrina and Sade's ears perked up-"wildcats-" Sade's ears went down-"not servals, sorry Katrina-" Katrina's ears went down too-"a little too big to be servals, but very similar. Maybe some weird species of pointy-eared cheetahs, or jaguars..." she trailed off.

"Where there any other creatures there?" Katrina asked.

"What? Oh, yes... there were these giant reptiles... but they had bat wings... and horns... and things on the end of their tails..."

Sade's eyes widened. "What, you mean dragons?"

Re: The Dragon Way

A rustle in the forest, a rabbit emerges from the bushes sniffing the air, while eyeing up a tasty looking patch of grass. It hops silently towards the patch ears erect. Suddenly, the rabbit is knocked aside. It flails desperately to get away, but it's too late, the rabbit goes limp in the jaws of it's killer.

Dio cruches thoughtfully on the bones, and considers his position. Now that he thought about it, he had no idea where he would go. He knew his father wasn't in Warfang, but other than that... and then again, where were dragons other than in Warfang. There was the dragon temple but that was far north wasn't it? Dio desperately thought of his occasional glances at maps, he couldn't remember ever seeing a map, but he was certain it was North.

Direction decided, Dio gorged on the last scraps of his prey and clambered back up into the trees.

Hours later Dio emerged at the canopy, ears straining for a sound. Music? Rather crude music perhaps, but music nonetheless. He lowered himself to the ground and slalomed through the trees towards the sound. Eventually he emerged near a cheetah settlement. Dio slid gently behind the huts, and peered round the corner. Dragons! Older than him, but nowhere near old enough to be his father. And of all things they were dancing. Dio felt slightly light-headed. He yearned to join the happy looking dragons. Perhaps they could help him. Eventually he decided against the idea, what if they knew of the young white dragon escapee.

Disheartened Dio turned to the forest and leapt back into the canopies, heading swiftly towards the belt of fire.

Re: The Dragon Way

Cecile shrugged. "I don't know... I've never heard of a dragon before. I didn't go out much before I met you guys."

"Well, what you described certainly sounds like a dragon to me." said Sade. She paused thinking. "I wonder... if they are friendly."

Cecile shifted around on her branch. "Well, I suppose I could... go down and find out..."

Sade frowned. "But what if you're discovered. Even if they are good, they might still attack."

"It's not like I was going to waltz right up to them and ask, 'Hi! Are you evil? If so, please don't kill me!' I'll find a nice hollow tree to rest in... and I can survive on nectar on a while."

"...Well... I suppose..."

Excited, Cecile took of from her branch and flew low, easily making her way through the trees. Her wings beating twice every second, she quickly reached the base of the mountain and changed direction so she was heading towards the village.

Re: The Dragon Way

What was this thing? A great wall of fire? It made no sense. Dio sat and watched the burning flame. There wasn't anything for it to burn on, but yet it burned. Perhaps it was an illusion? Dio rose and timidly approached the great wall. He lent from side to side as he inspected the flames. Finally he lifted his paw and gently, gently- he lunged his paw out.

"Wait a second..." Dio looked at his paw, "No burns?"
Now that he thought about it there was no actual pain. Dio braced himself and leapt.

"Run!"
"He's too powerful!?"
"We can't stop him!"
"He'll-"

Dio leapt back and gasped for air his lungs were too clenched to accept. When he finally recovered he realised there was once again no pain. Only fear. Dio howled in frustration and fear. What was this. Those voices. And the screams. Death screams. Now he understood this firey wall, it burned on souls.

Dio shook, he couldn't pass this thing, father or not. He turned and fled, eyes wide and terrified. He needed to know more, and he knew who might know. Once again he strained to hear the music...

Re: The Dragon Way

Cecile approached the camp. Don't crash... don't crash... she urged herself as she latched onto a branch. Yes! She was never good at landing. Wrapping her wings around herself to hide her bubble-gum pink hair, she left just one gap open so she could see and use her echo-vision if she needed too. There were four dragons, all dancing. The light of the fire began to burn her eyes, so she screwed them shut and used her echo-vision. She let the echos travel over the dragons, and was fascinated. They definitely had bat wings.. only they were lacking some membrane and thumbs... not to mention they came out of their backs. And yet... they had four legs, all strong and able to support their weight. She had never seen, not even heard of a creature like this before.

Alright, stop gawking at them... she told herself. She sent out echos again, this time at the cats. Definitely not servals. Perhaps, cheetahs? Opening her eyes just a bit, she gazed at the wildcats. Yep, cheetahs... multicolored cheetahs... she added as she saw a red and blue on walk past. Hrm... so far they don't appear evil... but it's too early to be sure. Wrapping her wings more tightly around her, she continued to watch them.

Re: The Dragon Way

"Good evening, little one." Dio whispered behind the fruit bat. Although he didn't expect the bat to run, he raised a paw ready to catch it should it run.

Re: The Dragon Way

Cecile tensed. Slowly, she twisted around until she was face to face with the pale dragon. The whiteness of his scales hurt her eyes - bright things hurt them. She forced herself to stare into his eyes with her bulging, yellow ones for a few more seconds, then screwed them shut again and sent echos over him. He had his paw raised, probably to catch her if she tried to make an escape. Hrmph... he thinks he can catch me? I'm too big for him. she thought, irritated. Opening her eyes just a bit, so they were nothing but yellow slits, she whispered harshly, "What do you want?"

Re: The Dragon Way

Dio paused, what did he want? Or rather, what did he want that this bat could give him?

"I'm just interested, I mean, you might learn more about these dragons if you actually talked to them."

Dio leapt to the forest floor and walked openly towards the village. He didn't know what to expect. "Story of my life." he thought bitterly.

He called back to the bat, "If you ever meet a dragon called Dio, you're meeting me."

Re: The Dragon Way

Cecile turned back around and watched Dio approach the village. Dragons certainly are strange creatures... she thought. As he turned back and told her his name, she thought she may as well do the same. Quickly, she made a wave of sound containing her name and sent it towards him. Cecile...

"Uh... hello." A voice came from behind Cecile. It was Vinna.

Meanwile, Cory kept tripping over his feet and falling on his face. Ivy giggled and noticed that Wedger couldn't dance either. Well, not good.

Re: The Dragon Way

Cecile turned around again. This time there was a small dragonfly hovering behind her. Relaxing, and feeling a lot friendlier towards this little dragonfly she responded. "Hi." Jerking her head towards the group of dragons, she asked "Do you know them?"

"I'm Cecile. My friends, Katrina, Sam and Sade, are up in those mountains." She motioned to a mountain in the East (yay for random directions!). "I came down here to see if... well, honestly, to see if it was safe. My friends and I, we've been in some pretty bad situations before..." she trailed off, feeling embarrassed.

Re: The Dragon Way

Dio thought for a moment, Cecille? Hmph... Perhaps it was unwise to leave a name. Although, allies always came in handy.

"Cursed wretched little, Oh?" came a croaky voice from the shadows near the village. Dio turned ready to pounce or flee. It was another cheetah creature, this one seemed old. "Oh! It is you..."
Dio stared at the old one and made no move to betray his fear or confusion.
"Born not of dark flesh, but still with dark mind. Interesting... You are still quite young. The dark master is indeed wily."
"What?" Dio said, barely able to control his shaking lips.
"Ah, but you are touched by the belt of fire, yet you carry no burns. Once again so interesting. I assume you know what it is the belt of fire burns on?"
"Souls. It burns on people's souls."
"Indeed, now answer this. Who's?"
"I... I'm not sure. There was so much screaming. So much pain, anger. I couldn't, I mean it was too powerful. It burns on the soul's of dead ones, but I don't think- they all died because they were murdered."
"Hmmm... Did you know that you are one of 6 who can pass through that wall safely? Hmmmmm?"
"What do you mean? I couldn't make it, I was too overcome, I was forced back."
"No!" came the angry reply, "The only reason you didn't make it through is because you were too afraid, too afraid of facing those who perished. The truth of the matter is you are too weak. Not of body, but of mind."

Dio fled confused and terrified. He had to get away. But why? Was the old man telling the truth? So much of what he said made so little sense. Dio's head hurt so... He needed to rest, and if anything, that cheetah village promised rest.

Dio walked openly towards the guard.
"Another one? Friend or foe?"
"I think I would wish to get you know you before I decided that."
The guard lowered his spear a little, but fixed Dio with a stare. Eventually, he entered the village, calling to the dragons. "Dragons! There's another one of your kind here, he's pale and-" the guard peered back, "Nam-?!"

There was nothing but a gentle breeze. Another cheetah approached and frowned.

"Have you been drinking on duty Cloud?"
"What?!"
"Only kidding, my shift I reckon."
"Umm... okay."

All this Dio observed from the roof of a nearby hut. He had a feeling that if he approached too openly he would not be allowed to leave so easily. All he wanted was information, so he resolved to wait until one was alone. Meanwhile he would watch this rather strange dancing. There seemed to be an affair of love down there. Interesting. Perhaps I could use that to my advantage, he thought. For a moment he reflected what he had just thought.

How could I even think of that he thought shaking. What on Earth? The floor was shaking. Uh-oh he thought. Straw roof.

Flumph!

Dio opened his eyes dazedly and looked around, all the cheetahs were staring at him. This wasn't part of my plan thought Dio. And of all things he was upside-down.
"I knew I saw a white dragon."
Dio sighed, this wasn't going to be easy. He flipped onto his feet and took numbers. two dozenish cheetahs, couple of dragons. And then him, a youngling dragon. It wasn't looking good. For a while nobody moved...

Re: The Dragon Way

Dio carefully assessed his options. Did he want to stay here? Not really... Did he want information? Yes... If he took a hostage he could always bargain. That thought sickened him slightly, but he made his decision.

Before the cheetahs could react he jumped, pushed off of one of the cheetahs, pushing them along the ground into a dusty heap, and dived towards the dragon they referred to as Cyra. He knew certain that if he went for her, the twins would go nuts, and probably a few other dragons as well, nut that would only make them easier to deal with.

He landed, hitting the dragon fully in the back, rolled, and hoisted her dazed body in front of him as a shield. He flicked out a sharp claw and held it next to her throat. What would he do if she fought back? He couldn't see a way other than killing her, but hopefully she wouldn't be that foolish. If she died so did I.

Dio backed away to a fence, close enough to the gate if he wanted to make a break for it. Cheetahs surrounded that escape route, hmph. That left only one option. He'd have to get serious...

The white dragon narrows his eyes and waits for the next move.
