Dragonyte Chronicles; this is the book I'm working on
Hey, this is the book I'm working on, this is the prologue, telll me what you think about it, I must tell you though, the prologue is just to set the stage sort of. Give it a review and tell me if you like it. This might take a little while to read and might be hard in such small font, so don't be afraid to copy it and put in a word document to read it. If you do, thought, it'll be three pages long, just a heads up for you guys.
In the days before man and elf were the dominant races of the earth, the Dragonytes reined. They stood like elf and man, yet they still held many of the qualities of dragons. Their heads were still shaped like a dragon’s and their eyes still held the resemblance of dragons. They still held tails and clawed feet. Some even had clawed hands; these usually became warriors because clawed hands was a symbol of great strength. Along with the body characteristics of dragons they held great abilities that elves could only dream of having. They held the ability to control fire, most of them anyway, some even held ice, lightning, or earth.
One Dragonyte in particular, though, named Ryker, stood out above all other Dragonytes, because at the age of fifty when he became a young adult Dragonyte he obtained the ability of both ice and lightning, an ability that had only been told in stories of the ancient times. Many thought him to be an abomination but he paid no attention to what people said of him and continued to take control of his abilities. Soon after he matured, though, he gained the ability of fire and then later when he became a true adult Dragonyte at the age of two-hundred years, he gained the ability of earth. Ryker became a feared member of the populace. But one group of people watched him grow stronger and stronger. They were the Elder Council.
Ryker was treated like an outcast by everyone he met, he had no friends of his own and his family disowned him after he had gained his first two abilities. No one spoke to him, he was not permitted to enter any stores or restaurants. His attitude grew dull and somber, his will to try and progress through life began to dwindle as he let his mind slowly grasp the idea that he was but an abomination *bleep* by the gods to live a life of terrible sorrow. But when he was prepared to end his life a young Dragonyte approached him and told him that the Elder Council wished to speak to him. Ryker had been surprised in two manners, one being that the young Dragonyte had approached him without fear and that the Elder Council wanted to see him.
When he presented himself in front of the twelve Council Members they told him that they wished to train all four of his abilities. When Ryker accepted the Council was relieved to hear, they had feared he would try and destroy himself and his special qualities. Ryker’s training was vigorous and spirit crushing yet he progressed as a normal Dragonyte would through school. The Council was greatly impressed by his strengths yet was unable to quell a feeling of unease they had about Ryker.
He progressed quicker than any would have thought possible, he quickly defeated any challenger that stepped forth against him. The Elder Council was impressed by his strength, but when Ryker requested permission to enter the ranks of the Council Members. It was then that the Elder Council saw the true darkness that surrounded his mind and soul, their unease about him had been well founded. Ryker was denied a seat in the Council and was sent out of the Dragonyte Imperial City until he cleared his mind and soul of darkness.
However, Ryker did not clear his mind and soul of darkness, he let it fester and grow. It consumed him, mind and body; he became an entity of darkness himself. He approached the city and began a merciless attack on it using all the knowledge the Elder Council had given him. It wasn’t until the Elders themselves came into the frail that Ryker was stopped. He escaped capture and went on a rampage through elfin and human lands. The destruction was worse than had ever been encountered before. Wherever Ryker attacked not a soul was left alive to tell the tale. When word reached the Elder Council what Ryker had done they responded quickly and without hesitation. The twelve of them sought after Ryker and when they found him his strength had grown immensely. Seven of the Elders fell in combat against Ryker but the remaining five managed to seal his powers within five crystals. They took the crystals and buried them in a tomb and made sure that it could never be opened.
They then sealed Ryker in a tomb on the opposite side of the globe. They made this five times larger than the one holding the crystals and even more dangerous to get in and out. They sealed this one with the utmost care but the magic of the Dragonytes would not let them create this tomb without a key so they made it so that only the five crystals could unlock the tomb. With the two tombs built after the battle most of the energy of the Elders was spent. Two of them died shortly after and the other three disappeared and were never seen again.
After nine of the Elders died and the other three left the Dragonyte Imperial city, their empire began to dwindle and the Dragonytes began to slowly disappear. After a few thousand years there were less and ten-thousand Dragonytes alive and most of them were thousands of years old already and close to death. A few hundred years later there were barely over five hundred left alive, the others either died of age or sickness or, more likely, were killed in hate of what Ryker had done by the elves and the humans.
In the time the Dragonytes were dying out the knowledge where the crystals were buried and where Ryker’s tomb laid had completely disappeared. In fact, most people had forgotten why Ryker was so hated except that he killed many people. Dragonytes were still hated, though, they were usually stoned and beat by villagers or guards. There was never a punishment for hurting a Dragonyte so it wasn’t treated as a bad occurrence when a bruised and beaten Dragonyte was seen heading down the roads or cowering in an alley. Dragonytes weren’t allowed to live in cities or villages and were forced to fend for themselves.
But after a while they were allowed to live in cities and villages and were given low-paying jobs, yet they were never treated as equal citizens. And they still aren’t, despite it being over five thousand years since Ryker’s uprising. But most Dragonytes managed to survive through their lives. Many Dragonytes, though, spread rumors that a descendant of Ryker might one day arise but the elves and humans simply dismissed it as lies…
“Miss, is that all really true?” A young elfin child spoke up.
A woman draped in robes and holding a book gave a slight chuckle and lowered the book. Her face was visible but her body was hidden. She was a young Dragonyte, just barely over fifty years. Her skin was a dark violet with a white neck. Her eyes were beautiful amber with a pupil like any human or elf, but instead of being black it was a dark blue. She had large ears that resembled horns with webs between them. Her smile would make any man, elf, human, or Dragonyte, stumble over themselves. “Only if you want to believe it to be true, young one, no you must all run along now, your parents must be expecting you back.”
The twenty or so children around the Dragonyte moaned but obeyed and slowly got up and began walking off but one young human female walked up to her and looked in the Dragonytes eyes. “My daddy says that Dragonytes are rude and mean creatures that are ugly and disgusting.” The Dragonyte kept the pain she felt on the inside, the comment was common of her to here yet it still burned her spirit greatly. “But I don’t think you’re like, that, I think you’re real pretty.” The young girl ran off as a man came around the corner and called out to her.
The Dragonyte simply sat there, frozen. She had never received such a comment before. It felt like a warm blanket of silk had fallen over her and was comforting her aching soul. A smile snuck onto her face as she stood up and walked off down a dark alley and turned into a wooden door leading to a broken down brick hut. The last thing she did before she entered the hut was let a crystal tear roll down the side of her face.
Purple Dragon King was a name I developed over time as I began to go from closet Spyro fan to open Spyro fan.
