Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Every Spyro fan can agree that Copeland's music added a mystical and unforgettable mood to the original series. It broadened our imagination and captivated us while we explored those many creative worlds. Even as we "grow out of" the game, the soundtrack continues to amaze and interest us. While most people simply hold on to their fond memories and ripped mp3's, I decided to create some "Copeland like" music of my own. As I write in this forum, I have only one creation (updated once), but I plan on composing many more. Check out my first song.

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Hmm, very nice! It is similar to Copeland's work. And catchy. ^^ I say keep it up!
And as for my favorite music from Spyro the Dragon, I can easily say Lofty Castle. The Main Theme is second, and Artisans third (especially the first fourteen seconds).

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Your music defenatly sound very similar to colplands. Someone said this in ratchets post about your music but I will say it again because I think same, it sounds like a mix of the origional trilogys music and the music from the gameboy games. I say, keep it up! You are doing a wonderful job. And my favorite music from the game is Tree Tops and Lofty Castle

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Very nice!!
It's quite mellow, like some of Copeland's Spyro music, but for some reason sounds a bit more skeletal. Maybe go for the soft rock stuff too? I was surprised at the lack of guitars in that piece. Copeland often uses both acoustic and electric guitars in his compositions.
You got the bass and piano pretty much like how he does it.
Looking forward to more.

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
thanks for the comments guys. I'm definitely going to shoot more for the electric guitar and rock organ in my next song. and now that christmas break has arrived, I'll have more time to relax and think.

That's awesome. Sounds very similar to something in the games. Can't wait to hear more.
I couldn't really decide my favorite easily, but I voted for Dark Passage.

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Keep them coming. Oh, maybe you can try to use a violin instead of a guitar in one of your songs. Who says you can't rock with one? For that matter, how about a harp or that sound you make when blowing into a glass bottle? Anything can be an instrument so see what things you can experiment with. You don't have to but if you don't then someone else will. Have fun.
I don't care how it looks but how it functions

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
In this case, he's trying to imitate Copeland's music style, so I wouldn't really suggest wacky instruments like those. It's different from making a remix or an original composition with your own style.
Oh, I also noticed that you took into account some of those percussive elements like bells that help contribute to Copeland's style.
How long did it take to make this piece?

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Wow. That sounds almost EXACTLY like Stewart Copeland. AWESOME work. Two questions;
1) Do you have a .mp3 or .midi that I can download? I want to put this on my iPod.
2) Does your song have an official title? I'd rather put that that "spyro the dragon music 2" as the title.

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Trasher258, I will most definitely keep those instruments in mind, as long as the style of the piece remains comparable to Copeland's work.
Good observation, bmah. The basic frame of the piece was created in one night... but new rhythms, instruments and other small changes were tailored in days after.
I uploaded "Spyro the dragon music" after about two weeks. One month later I took an afternoon to spice up my creation, now uploaded as "Spyro the dragon music 2". Consider it finalized, for now.
There is a title for the piece RaidonMakoto, it's called Hilltop Forest.
A Myspace page with downloadable mp3's will be up soon. I'll keep you guys posted.

Cool. So I just listened to your older version and the remastered version you've shown is quite a quality difference.
Out of the curiousity, was there a specific song/tune from Copeland that you've studied first, or did you just listen to a whole bunch of Spyro songs and eventually nailed Copeland's style?
Also, what program did you use to compose the song? FL Studio? GarageBand? (which is what Copeland used for making the Spyro soundtracks)

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Sorry for responding to your post so late!
I've been listening to Copeland's music from Spyro for a while now, so I'm pretty familiar with his style.
From this I can generate a good rhythmic beat, bassline, and background guitar/warm pad/various effects.
Melodic solos, however, are the real challenge. In this case I might listen to a few songs to get an idea, or (as in my next piece with Dream Weavers) snag a riff and feature it completely.
Hopefully replicating Copeland's fluent melodies will become easier for me in the future!
To compose all my pieces I use Cakewalk's Music Creator 2 and a simple Yamaha keyboard. Eventually I'll move onto some other program that could better match the instruments in Copeland's soundtrack.

Re: Copeland's Soundtrack: Missed or Reborn?
Thanks for that. I really enjoyed that song, and yes, it does very well recreate Stewart Copeland's work. You should try emailing him, if he had the time I think he would be pretty touched ![]()
