The Inheritance Series

So, you're here, so now you must join in the discussion of what you like, if anything, of Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr. But leave the movie out. I did not like it. They ruined Saphira.
I think they are awesome books, and I personally like Saphira when she said this on page 219 of Brisingr:
Mmh. We will have to talk about that. If you ever surprise me like that agin, I will pin you on the ground and lick you from head to toe.
If you have any quotes you would like to add, please feel free to mention them.

Re: The Inheritance Series

These are definitely my favorite books! The third one was amazing! They have so many twists and turns. I won't reveal anything since you haven't read the third book... but oh boy! Is he coming out with one more book or two?

Re: The Inheritance Series

You can talk about anything in the third book that you want, as long as you highlight it and press the spoiler button. I'll put my comment in one so you can see why I mean.

I absloutely love the Eragon series! It was one of my faves while going through Jr. High. Intense plot twists, intricate storylines, and I love in the second book where they turn from Eragon to his brother in a heartbeat without any major issues. big_smile

So yes, great series of books I'll always love (I haven't read the third one either!)

Re: The Inheritance Series

Okay let me try this spoiler thing. It is in the third book, so if you haven't read it, don't look.

I could not believe that Brom was Eragon's father!! I mean I kinda knew it, but when Murtagh said that Morzan was his father I was like, no way!

Re: The Inheritance Series

I've only read Eragon and it was really good. I'm looking forward to reading the other two now.

Re: The Inheritance Series

The series is going to be a Cycle, four books. The next one is the last one. And I can tell you that its going to be green coloured (not spoilered because I don't think it gives anything important away).

Hidden text

When Murtagh said that Morzan was Eragon's father, that was what he thought. He wasn't actually lying to Eragon because he didn't know any different. You can only tell the truth in the Ancient Language, but if you say something and you believe it to be true then you can say it.... I've just completely naffed that up. Oh well.

I have read all three books, and I liked them all. Brisingr is by far the best one.

Hidden text

When Oromis died, it was really upsetting. Even though I knew it was him that was going to die. If he wasn't going to die in Brisingr he was going to die in the final book anyway. Also, the spirits that come to Eragon and Arya when they are around a campfire.... They really confused me, I didn't see any relevance to the rest of the story and it didn't exactly reveal anything more about spirits other than that they make people feel good to protect themselves.

Re: The Inheritance Series

Well, I'm about half-way through the third one, yes, there is going to be a fourth one and that's it. It's going to be green? Who's the green dragon?

Hidden text

Is it going to hatch from one of the eggs Galbatorix has in his possession?

That quote I mentioned, with Saphira saying she was going to lick Eragon from head to toe, what's funny about it is that Eragon took it as a threat, which it was. Saphira's tongue is covered in hooks and barbs that can strip the skin and meat off of bones with one swipe.

Re: The Inheritance Series

Even though I haven't read the third book yet, I am thinking the next dragon rider might either Ayra or Roran.  Though I'm just guessing.

Re: The Inheritance Series

I love the cycle.

One thing I don't like is that it was SO predictable.....and the plot is too close to star wars.

Brom=Obi-Wan
Luke=Eragon
Oromis=Yoda
Arya=Leia
Vader=Murtagh (Brother, Father to Eragon)
Empire=Galactic Empire
Varden=Rebellion
etc....

I think he took the settings from Lord of the Rings and the plot from Star Wars and put them together....I like it anyway though.

I only read the books for Saphira anyway...read my ff.net profile to see. lol. http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1414328/DragonFireOKN

I thought Saphira was awesome! I believe the movie is all right if you don't compare it's plot to that of the books.

Suggestive ftw!

I thought Paolini wrote the death scene really well, it brought out the emotion of what was occurring, describing what Glaedr was going through accurately. Maybe the spirits will make more sense or play more of a role in the final book, and Brisingr was just introducing them. Another scene like that (where it doesn't seem to have much relevance to the overall plot) was when Eragon was travelling from Helgrind to the Varden and came across that old mental hermit living in the hills by himself. But even though it may not have much of a part in the general story, it still makes for an interesting read.

Yep too true, you can kinda predict who gets who, and who dies based on the Star Wars plot. But it's got dragons in it so I'm prepared to ignore the similarities. ;-)

Spoiler for Raven to read!  wink

What you mentioned in the middle spoiler, about the hermit, he might have a part in the fourth book. It's quite possible.

What did you expect? There is bound to be a good guy and bad guy somewhere in any story. I like Star Wars but it doesn't inspire me that much. If I wrote a story, I would bend the rules to some degree but still make it clear for the audience to understand. I rather not start a rant here...you may not like what I had to say.

I read Eragon and I found it a very good read. Well, I didn't really have a choice since I have this "Mustang Read" thing at my school. I'm not saying I didn't like it. Since I'm quite visionary I can follow the story easily. I was seeing how the story flows and such since I am busy writing one myself anyway. So far, I haven't gotten time to work on it.

I've never really seen Star Wars, so I wouldn't know if the plot was close to it.  smile
