Polution

I really have to say that at the rate we're going polution wise, we might have a really hard time farther in the future. If we don't solve the problems that our parents have passed down to us, then our kids will have to deal with it. So give me your thoughts on what to do, should we look at new sources of energy or try and make our current energy cleaner?

Purple Dragon King was a name I developed over time as I began to go from closet Spyro fan to open Spyro fan. It has significance to me not just because of Spyro but it is also my favorite color and my first girlfriend called me by PDK. So next time you see my post think of the king of purple!!!!!!!

Re: Polution

its been obvious for a long time that we need to reconsider our options in regards to energy sources, if you dont give a crap about the environment then you at least cant deny the fact that the worlds oil is not a renewable resource and we will need to find something better, sooner rather than later.

its funny, electric cars and other kinds of powered cars have been around ages, and the only reason they arent more accessible now is the fact that oil companies felt threatened by them and eliminated the competition (which can mean a number of things)

Re: Polution

I do care about the environment big time. I also think that if there is something we can do it's for example stop littering becareful with the oil things like that. It's worth it especially watching the birds fly through the sky and feeling the beautiful breeze. Knowing that the habitats are ok and safe and watching the amazing scenes of nature is so rewarding and puts a smile on your face. That's all I can think of for now but I'm sure we all have great ideas on what to do.

Re: Polution

I hate pollution. I'm just glad that people are starting to use more environment-safe products like those swirly lightbulbs, and the cars, and other stuff.

Re: Polution

America has (well... had) the money to convert EVERY car in the U.S. to a
hybrid. Instead, they used it for the war. This made me mad. Well, all we
can do now, as for the sake of our planet, should try to make all of the
cars hybrid, clean up waste burning factories and other polluting factories,
and people should ride buses more often. If people rode buses, so much
gas would be saved, and less chemical fumes would be emitted into the air.

Those are my main viewpoints on pollution.

hence why its good that Obama won the election cuz with any luck, he'll be able to withdraw troops and funding from iraq and put it into more worth while ventures

Look even if he pulls tries too pull them out its still going too take years and even then it might cost us so do not blame America for that (although it seems we are falling apart)

Re: Polution

It's not America to blame but the way economy works is one of the main reasons for why crap happens to the environment.

For example, factory farming stems from the fact that probably one company started it, and despite that it was basically torturing animals for their meat, it produced it fast. (eventually contributing to mad cow disease because of their carelessness towards downs animals) So of course, all other meat-producing companies try to keep up and then we got factory farming all over the place. Farmers who provide the animals are then forced to go into it by the tycoons.

So yes, I know someone mentioned the businesses and competitions as one of the primary causes, which is true.

who's blaming america? its the previous american government that did it, i don't recall them asking all americans what they thought of the idea

besides which even if it had been voted on, a majority doesnt mean everyone, there could (and almost definitely would) have been a very large percentage of people voting against it.

you were the one who said youd rather see money put into stuff other than the war, i was just saying that now it might actually happen

Re: Polution

Some places, especially places like china, are using machinery which is seriously outdated and are not as environmently friendly as western machinery, hence produces a large amount of polution.
If we stop using all these radicly polution making machines and invest more money into electric cars and wind power, our polution amount created will decrease and then we can all be happy.

Unless they give people electric powered cars in plase of the gas one, most people won't change

Re: Polution

of courselets not forget that a lot of the time electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels, so electric cars arent going to solve the problem, it might help...

i like the idea of hydrogen powered cars best, run on the most common element we know of and produces water when combusted

or so ive heard

One of the ways Hydrogen is created is by putting a positive and a negative terminal (that are made of particular metals) into some water, and passing a current of electricity through the water between the two terminals, in a process called electrolysis (the Hydrogen gas starts bubbling off the negative terminal, and oxygen gas comes off the postive terminal). The Hydrogen gas is captured as it comes to the surface of the water.
The electricity for this process will probably come from fossil fuel-burning power stations, thus the pollution problem isn't totally solved. sad But otherwise I like it's merits, it's a good idea for reducing vehicle emissions and smog in large cities.

what if we use fossil fuel electricity to start creating the hydrogen gas, then use that hydrogen gas in order to make the electricity to make more hydrogen gas

HAHA its fool proof... except almost definitely not

Then you'd be making Hydrogen just to make more hydrogen, and none left over for cars, lol. It would be an interesting project for science students to come on a field trip to see, I suppose...
Solar power is a good way to generate electricity to use to make Hydrogen.

Re: Polution

It's nice that everyone's talking about new technology to reduce pollution in various ways, but few of you address the issue of convincing people to take responsible action for themselves. While most people agree that the environment should be improved, the percentage of people doing anything about it is significantly lower. I think it's a hell of a lot harder to change the psychological mindsets of society as opposed to improving technology. It's harder to get rid of bad habits than to install an emission scrubber into the fumes of a factory pipe.
That being said, there are some good examples of policies at municipal and federal levels exercising environmental strategies in many countries. Keep up the recycling guys! Bring your own bags when buying groceries! You might get a rebate when buying a hybrid car! Those kinds of things.

[shadow=red:9243b9ec44]In Science class we're learning about polution and things we can do to help, and learning about the new environment-safe products, such as Hybrid cars and Hydrogen cars.
The teacher said that in 2012 regular lightbulbs are gonna be banned. We'll still be able to use them, but no more buying them; only Flurestent (forgot how to spell) lightbulbs.  smile They can last for 9 years straight if you use them wisely; not being constantly on and such.[/shadow:9243b9ec44]

Now if only there was such a thing as a freeze gun; just freeze all the ice that's melting up in the NP and (I'm not sure if it's melting too) SP. x3
