Mirror's Edge

Who's getting it? Who has it?

To me I think I'll really enjoy this game. The main character, Faith, is well developed and kicks butt but isn't wearing skin tight clothing. Finally!

lol well said :-P

seriously though, im not claiming it of anyone here but some people get so up in arms about how women are portrayed as sex objects

its funny, their arent that many games (especially action/adventure games) that feature men that arent excessively displaying stereotypical masculine attributes what with their rippling biceps showing under their torn shirts/power armour

Re: Mirror's Edge

Notice those men are usually well-developed characters and don't have excessive "wandering" camera angles.

i wont comment on gameplay since i havnt really played games featuring either of those stereotypes

i still dont see the big deal, sex sells, we all know it, the men who do believe women are objects are not taught that from a video game

what we need to tackle are the (often japanese) games which portray guys as something that goes past the realm of metrosexual and into "im getting the operation tomorrow"

honestly, can guys look like guys and girls look like girls at least most of the time, sure there are the occasional people that are a bit androgenous, but i sincerely doubt every last male in your games universe has feminine lips/hair/facial structure/genitals

it wouldnt be so horrible if it werent for the girls who find it attractive "OMG SEPHIROTH'S MY BISHIE!!!"

and thats my irrational hate post for the day

Re: Mirror's Edge

From what I'm understanding from your post we shouldn't get our panties all up in a bunch with games like Extreme Beach Volleyball that focus entirely on how many boob shots they can show but we should be concerned about pretty boys in Final Fantasy? What?

You do know that extremely feminine men actually exist, mostly in Japan? Right? It's not an inaccurate portrayal except for the stupid hair and there are plenty of manly men in Japanese media, such as one of my videogame crushes, Godot from Phoenix Wright.

There's also for some reason, a lot of women in Japanese media that look like young boys. I guess this must be an accurate portrayal too but to tell you the truth, I've never seen an actual Japanese woman that looks like that. Maybe I need to visit Japan.

well-developed characters in video games are rare to come by regardless of gender.

Honestly though, who cares about women always being in skimpy clothes or men always being giant watermelon-biceped ape-men?  It's a video game.

Re: Mirror's Edge

Take it from a girl's point of view. We enjoy a videogame (or movie, or tv show for that matter) and it has good characters, except all the women do nothing and get a bunch of wandering camera angles. So much so that it's to the point where it's pretty much emphasizing that they're just there for eye candy. Where is the female character love?

And you can't tell me that making what is supposed to be A SCIENTIST wear this crap is ridiculous.

if female characters were there only for eye candy then they wouldnt be frequently portrayed as action heroines that are quite capable of kicking guys *bleep*s

eg. lara croft, samus, any female fighting game character.

id say its something that originates from covers of old high fantasy novels, the women are frequently shown as being strong enough to clash swords with the men, but theyre then dressed in skimpy clothes to emphasise their femininity.

but if you dont like that we can go back to the days of defenceless princesses trapped by the mean old dragon, waiting for their handsome strong prince to rescue them

but at least their bellies wont be showing underneath their full length dress... no ankles either

andfor the record, no we shouldnt be getting our panties in a bunch over games like extreme beach volleyball, know why? because its obvious to everyone with half a brain, that the game was made for people who liketo see tits, big ones... that wobble

so dont buy the game, as far as i can tell it doesnt claim to be anything its not, its a volleyball game with hot girls in few clothes.

finally

And you can't tell me that making what is supposed to be A SCIENTIST wear this crap is ridiculous.

i think you mean, we cant tell you it isnt ridiculous, and we could, in fact ill do it right now

it isnt ridiculous, if that was the standard uniform for the scientific institution that researches a cure for cancer then sure it would be... but its a game, its meant to make people want to play it, and if there are guys who will play something because it has bewbs then good for them

for the record i think its ridiculous to give a scientist a gun and expect that she knows how to use it... but its a game
