Re: Close calls.
@John Man: Heh, I've done that many time. Lucky you were able to halt yourself.
@ Lanara: A spiky plant, by any chance?
I nearly fell through gap between two massive boulders, but my backpack wedged me in the gap :-P
EDIT: Okay, I'll quote you Ontels. :-P
@ Ontels: You're in debt to your dad quite a bit now, eh? Must've been a scary experience.
Feel free to PM me anytime if you wish to talk, even if its just to randomly say hello

Re: Close calls.
[sub]When I was a kid, my family rented a cabin for a few days. One very windy day, my dad and I decided we would go canoeing.
So we got a canoe and paddled out to about the middle of the lake. Suddenly, the wind picked up and flipped our canoe over.
Being a naive little kid, I didn't understand what danger we were in. The water was cold, and we were pretty far from the shore, but I was convinced we could just swim back to shore if we needed to and couldn't understand why my dad was making such a big deal out of it.
Fortunately, my brother (yes, DDR_Maniac) was just going inside with my mom and sister, and he looked back at the lake before he went in. He pointed us out in the middle of the lake, and my mom went to go get someone to help us.
The one thing I kept thinking about after we were rescued was how lucky it was that I had left Pokemon Pikachu with DDR before going out. -_______________- [/sub]

Re: Close calls.
I've nearly fallen headfirst off of our shed and into the alleyway behind our house before. Luckily, I somehow managed to grab the wall as I fell and swung to my feet and landed on my bum. Only thing I had to show for it was really deep cuts on my fingers underneath my knuckles. Because our wall is made of breeze-blocks....

Re: Close calls.
I like Ontels, almost drowned onse when I was about, I think 4 to 5 years old but I was saved by my friend's mother.
Reason why I am scared of the beach: I almost drowned again caught in a rip current and my friend's dad saved me when I was sorta in the deep but for my body it was deep. My mom called the life guard-- er um... Puled the life guard to try and help us but when me and my friend's dad were at shore he was there trying to save my friend.

Re: Close calls.
I've never had the experience of nearly drowning, I've been swimming since I was 6 and still swim competitively. I've also lived by the beach my whole life and I know where the rip currents occur and when not to go in the sea. For example, you shouldn't really go in the sea when there are certain kinds of wave, they just pull you under (though I do anyway, lol, you just hold your breath when they're coming! Yeah.... Very sensible XD). Also, if you're caught in a rip current, don't panic and don't try swimming to shore, you won't be able to swim through the current. Instead, swim sideways, so you'll swim out of it. Though the moral is: don't swim far enough out to even get caught in a rip if you aren't a confident enough swimmer to get out of it. Oh, and I think everyone knows the rules about lilos and rubber dinghies and also rockpools.... Thats just common sense.

Re: Close calls.
Ok, some may laugh at this, but it was not funny.
I was about 10-11 years old, my school took us to a waterpark about 40 miles away for an end of the year celebration. My mom went with us with my little brother, I went to what we call the Tube Slide (you get on a innertube and ride it down), I got to the 2nd splash zone, I was waiting for a friend to come down (the splash zones are rather big, enough to hold 4 tubers at once) but I got caught in a backwash and I headed back to the mouth of the slide, a girl was coming down at the same time and smacked into me, I went head first into a hard-plastic wall, I was still on the tube but I was dazed for about 5 seconds, my head was leaning on my left shoulder and I was looking ahead, then my head started to hurt REALLY bad (and at my age, you should expect I cried), I was led off the slide by a lifeguard (barely any were watching the slide) to my mom so we could go into the administration building (and medical station, it's a small log building). I still had a headache and I felt my head...I had a knot the size of a rubber bouncy ball (the larger kind) on the right side of my forehead. I went to the hospital for X-Rays, and I was clean, not a concussion or anything from such a HARD collision (I went about 10+ mph into the wall, which was near point-blank to me already). I still have that same knot on my head today, it became a scar...but it did shrink down. This was literally my most famous accident, the part tightened security around that slide from what happened (now there's a lifeguard or two at each splashzone).

Re: Close calls.
Hmm ...
First one's pretty lame. So we went swimming one day at a pool. I got a running start to jump in. And instead of jumping in, I slipped on the bricks (very slippery bricks) and ending up slamming my head on the side of the pool before going in. I blacked out for a bit before coming up. I felt like an idiot. Some random guy then came up to me and starting touching my head ... Creepy. Anyways, he told me that I needed to get that checked because that hit could cause temporary or even permanent blindness and loss of smell ... Right.
Well, it turns out he was right. I didn't get it checked and now I am completely blind in my right eye, can't see too well in my left, and my sense of smell sucks ...
Haha, I'm just kidding. I'm perfectly fine.
But speaking of close calls ...
About 2 months ago, me and my friend decided to drive around town just to hang out and talk. So we're just cruising along, going through a green light when all of a sudden a car shoots out from the right, runs through his red light and slams right into the car in front of us. It all happened so fast. The guy had to have been going at least 45 mph. That was way too close and way too scary.

Re: Close calls.
Well, where i live there is this castle that's at the top of a mountain (I'm not talking medieval castles, it's made for the public, I'm not sure why) and I was really young and I was like tottering over the edge but somebody grabbed me. O_O I'm not making this up, it's true.
