Hurricane Season 2008
This topic was made to stop several topics about different hurricanes and or tropical storms.
Tropical Depression Fay is now over Mississippi and is now a remnant low.
Tropical Storm Gustav has formed in the carribbean and is undergoing rapid intensification. It is moving in the general direction of Florida BUT it is expected to run the lenght of Cuba and the DR before reaching the Gulf. Gustav is expected to become a hurricane but after crossing Cuba it should weaken considerably.
For furthur questions about Gustav, go to nhc.noaa.gov

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
Man, poor Cuba always gets a beating. Aren't they living bad enough as it is? Geez.
Of course, hurricanes don't like Florida much either.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
Lol, you should be Spyroforum's weatherman, DragonFireOKN. Do you live near area being impacted by TS Fay?
I'm pretty sure Cubans and people in Florida don't need ANOTHER Hurricane/Tropical Storm, not after all that flooding caused previously.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
Fay wasn't that bad. It slowly made it's way through Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. We're actually enjoying all this rain in Georgia. We need it because of the drought.

Update #2
Hurricane Gustav
Hurricane Gustav currently has maximum sustained winds of 90mph. It is moving in the general direction of Cuba and is expected to parallel the coastline. As of now, Gustav is expected to become a Major Hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. (Winds over 111mph) However, if the storm should hit Cuba, Gustav would weaken considerably before entering the Gulf. If you live along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, moniter the progress of this system very closely.
If you have any questions about Gustav or hurricanes in general, you can PM me.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
It's times like this when I'm glad to live in the UK! XD Laughing aside though, people in places like Cuba, The DR, Florida, Georgia and other Hurricane-prone countries will probably be used to their effects. Not, the damage on property and horrible things like that (I didn't mean it like that), I just mean going through the experience of a Hurricane in as normal-a-way as possible. If you are prepared for all the consequences then you don't usually have much to worry about.

Tropical Update: 3
Tropical Storm Gustav:
Tropical Storm Gustav continues to intensify and is currently approaching Jamaica. Gustav has winds of 70mph and is expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico as a major hurricane. (115mph) The current path takes it very near to New Orleans. A landfall is expected on Monday.
Newly formed Tropical Storm Hanna has winds of 40mph and is moving towards Florida. Winds are expected to reach hurricane force (85mph) by early next week. Keep informed of Hanna if you live in Florida.
Two other areas are being monitered for tropical development in the Atlantic. One in the extreme southwest Gulf of Mexico, the other being just off the coast of Africa.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
Hehe. :-P
Gustav and Hanna are gonna grow big. Not cool.
Florida might get a break from Gustav, but they'll probably get it all from Hanna.
Not to mention 2 more possible major storms coming right after Hanna.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
Those two storms in the Atlantic are weeks away from the U.S. It's likely that If they develop they will turn out into the open Atlantic and not threaten land.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
Gustav Update:
Hurricane Gustav is bearing down on the extreme western side of Cuba and has winds of 145mph. (Category 4) It is likely that Gustav will reach Category 5 intensity before it hits Cuba. The Cuban landfall will not affect the intensity much and Gustav is expected to retain Category 4 or 5 status as it enters the Gulf. All residents along the Northern Gulf coast should moniter Gustav very closely.
Tropical Storm Hanna continues to become better organized and is heading towards the Gulf of Mexico. It is likely that Hanna will follow Gustav into the Gulf by next week.
Elsewhere, a new tropical depression may be forming off the coast of Africa.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
It hit category 5? I guess it went down then. It's rated category 4 right now, but it's quickly growing to category 5.
It'll get nasty. My dad already got a call from his work saying he needs to leave immediately to go help in Dallas. He works for homeland security.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
Hurricane Gustav is now a Category 3 hurricane. It weaken after crossing Cuba. However, forcast call for Gustav to make landfall as a category 4 hurricane. Restrenghening is extremely likely over the gulf's warm waters.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
Hurricane Gustav has made landfall in Louisiana and currently has winds of 80mph. It will slowly move west to northwest and tornados along with flooding rains are higly anticipated.
Hurricane Hanna: Tropical Storm Hanna has been upgraded to a category 1 hurricane and is expected to hit South Carolina on Saturday. It is expected to intensify to a category 2 hurricane by that time.
Tropical Storm Ike: TS Ike has formed in the Atlantic and is expected to reach hurricane strength very quickly as it moves due west towards the bahamas.
A new storm off Africa is expected to become a tropical storm very quickly and follow Ike towards the bahamas.

Re: Hurricane Season 2008
It should be hitting somewhere between Savannah and the border of South Carolina. I don't think it'll be too bad for us.
