Anyone hate the original games?

I get what DarkSpyroRocks is saying when the enemies are too easy to defeat. But, unfortunately, that's how most Platformers are like, if you've played crash bandicoot, those enemies are more annoying, since when you start it's one hit = death. Spyro's stable levels and large enclosed areas make it easier to defeat enemies. Take Mario for example, The numerous enemies close to ledges and cliffs may get on your last nerves. Spyro is quite different.

I haven't tried the new series (particularly because I can't find a copy for some strange reason) but I'm sure its good as well. The fact that it is a reboot of the series sparks more controversy more because the hardcore gamers were so in tune with the old series. If there was no old trilogy (that would suck) then the LoS series would probably get better reviews.

Another aspect is the exploring. You can't go back unlike the other Spyro games and it's a big jump in being linear in the Spyro videogames. The older ones had a wider exploration factor because you could go back to a level anytime.

I guess it really depepnds on what type of gamer you are.

I like both the old and new games. I probaly like old better though but my opinion changes all the time.

BOT: I love the originals, always have always will, havnt played the new series, but its not a spyro style platformer so i dont know if i really want to play it or not

I just usually expect critics to have played the game they are criticizing.

Sometimes, you can just tell you're not going to enjoy it though. Kind of like me and the Anne Rice books. I've had them recommended to me several times and I've read the summaries on every single one and just shouted "NO" to the heavens.

Once, on a C&C community I was a part of, one of the fans of the older C&C games said that he believed Tiberium Wars sucked even though he never played it and said that he had no intention of buying it. After some of us convinced him to buy it (he said that if it sucked, it was our fault for his lost money), he hadn't come on for the next 5 days (he was a very active user). We found out the reason for his absence was none other than the fact that he had been too busy playing Tiberium Wars.

it doesnt require playing a game to see what it does or doesnt have

it doesnt have the bright fun colourful humorous free roaming levels
it does have dark moody levels which are mostly linear
the evidence: screenshots and videos

it doesnt have the simple rock paper scissors (minus the scissors) combat system, which was made simple on purpose to emphasise the focus on platforming rather than combat (charge > armoured enemy > flame > unarmoured enemy)
it does involve physical "fighting game" style combat coupled with breath attacks which seem to be no longer a requirement, instead they are a special power to help you kill the masses of enemies quicker

theres more but im defending myself from something irrelevant to be honest because ive never said TLoS was bad (also i made it clear that ive never played the games in other topics, so i dont know why you are surprised) what ive argued against is the needless replacement of spyro by TLoS

I suppose there's always that chance. It has happened to me on several occassions with RPGs, because I hate most of them, but have enjoyed several few. Although, it's mostly been because I was convinced with having the mechanics explained to me. Spyro seems to be very blunt with how it's going to be. I actually thought it looked kind of neat when A New Beginning was announced in a magazine, but when the later media came, I pictured what it was going to be like, and, that's exactly how it was.

I'm not saying he should be saying the game is bad (which it looks like he isn't) but it's understandable to not want to play it and still not like its direction.

I love Spyro and any games Spyro was in. Why hate? Spyro is pretty much... my dude. I currently bought TLoS: A New Beginning, beat it, and want to play both of "The Legend of Spyro:..." titles after it. All I need is the $ to buy them. But now I'm remembering... my birthday is September 9th. So I will be getting a new Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, and maybe (some?) new Spyro games.

well i don't hate it but i do like the legend better i think it should be conected to the origanel maby have orginal spyro's father be spyro from the legend and he and cynder have kids and spyro is one of em!

The orginal spyro games were much better than the newer ones. I was so disappointed with the newer versions. But that's my opinion.

...*raises hand* I honestly don't like the old games that much..Too childish, terrible voice acting and just glitched to HELL. Then again...I'm a tomboy who enjoys serious plots and epicness.

Spyro Originale =Pwnage. (Yes I spelled original the way I pronounced it)

I've played the new ones and frankly they kinda sucked for me. I want a game that was challenging, much like how the originals were like. I beat the new games in a matter of hours let alone a full day.

At least the old ones provided me with a challenge with the minigames, exploration, easter eggs, and other fun aspects.

The new ones were a bit redundant to say the least, go into one room, smash the buttons to kill someone, then go to the next room, repeat.

I'll admit that the graphics are good but I'm not an OMG! TEH GRAPHICS MAKE THE GAME BETTER WIT TEH REALISM AND CRAP! kind of person.

I'm just saying that the new TLoS games would get better reviews from the original fans if they:

1. Did not get rid of some of the aspects that made the original games lovable. Ex. replaced Sparx with a health bar, cut out gem hunts and collectable stuff.

2.Get rid of Earth Breath. Seriously. He's breathing rocks and dirt! He can walk up to a rock, pick it up in his mouth, and spit it at an enemy for that. It would've made much more sense if he acquired some sort of earth power from another creature he may have helped.

Remember the Fairies from Spyro 1? When you rescued one of them from Haunted Towers or the Spider Caves, they reward spyro with a kiss and suddenly he's ably to breathe a bright red and pink flame that can break metal. Why not give him the earth powers that way or something? NO EARTH BREATH! Make it an ability that makes earthquakes if he headbashed to give an example.

3. The new character designs. We'd love the new look for Spyro and Sparx more if they had a some resemblance to thier old selves, anthro-y Sparx looks a bit evil to me >.<.

4. Speaking of which, Sparx's kazoo-y voice should've stayed, but if that had to change give him a voice that would make him sound believable.

5. Be original with some of the attacks. Sure in the old games he had the options of different breaths and all but they don't have to be breaths you know! Wow us! Make us say: 'Hey this game is all right!' instead of 'OMG, they took a concept from the original games and made it suck! *glares at sierra*' Be creative. That's all I ask.

Uhh, I think that's enough ranting. Sorry if it bothers some ppl. But even if it did, get over it. Seriously.

Hmm? I loved the old Spyro games! In my opinion, they were what made the new Spyro Trilogy what it is today. The Trilogy is something I'm getting used to, but the old Spyro games will always be the greatest. But, I might change my opinion and say that the new Trilogy comes close to the original when I get ANB soon. ^^

I think that the insominac games were the best in the series. The series went downhill after Insominac left. Enter the Dragonfly wasn't very good, I think A hero's tail was even worse. Then I got ANB, expecting it to be terrible, but i enjoyed it, just not as much as the origanals.
