To help you live? Sure you do. Maybe not those two specifically, but you do need fruits and vegetables. You don't necessarily need to eat meat, or any specific animal product, but it'll certainly make you healthier. How do you think vegans survive? While there's some minerals you can't get in anything but meat, generally protein is what you do need, and it's easy to substitute with beans and nuts. You need fat as well, but meat isn't the only place you find it in.

However, pescetarians are generally considered healthier than vegans, as long as they're eating right. Basically, it's recommended not to exclude animal products from your diet, so this is why I don't really understand vegans.

No dairy products for Vegans? Where would I be without milk? And how can they eat their cereal as you put milk on it? None of my friends are vegeteriens and I'm the only one my tutor group who is one. Life is hard being a vege but I've got to understand that life is hard.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????

I Would not worry to much, as long as everyone does their part. I spend lot of time recycling Bio and no Bio waste (meats, corn skins things like that) and their are people who are studying the earth and are working hard too make it a better place (although US is doing very bad at it) Don't worry to much about it. If you want too help out, buy from a farm. I hope that helps if not then I am sorry tongue

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????

its been theorised, i believe, that beginning to eat meat (during the transition from ape to man) is what helped us develop higher capability of thought

whether thats true or a bunch of bull (lol) made up by the meat industry, the fact remains, we have teeth which indicate an omnivorous diet, if we had purely grinding teeth common to herbivorous animals then maybe id agree with vegetarians, but as it stands the only truly defendable point vegetarians have is the fact that the meat industry isnt as humane as it could be. even then, chickens are in some cases being raised "free range", beef cattle are seen to lead a pretty alright life as far as i can see (though the method used to kill them may not be as quick as some would like) sheep are raised in a similar way to cattle. all in all the industry isnt perfect but i feel that its getting better.

The logic of some people amaze me.

People need to EAT. Hunting is a way to get food.

Hunting is not wrong, and it is not illegal in most places.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????

hunting for sport = wrong
hunting to eradicate an introduced species = justifiable
hunting a prolific species for food = fine
hunting any endangered species = wrong and illegal (in most places, apparently not japan though *cough*scientificresearchmyarse*cough*)

and as for the "OH NOES AN ANIMAL DIDE TO MAKEE MY SAMMICH* how about you go tell a whole bunch of omnivorous animals to stop eating meat, when they give a *bleep* about what you consider to be so horrible i might consider it myself

again i will state the facts, we have evolved (or were created with) a set of teeth consisting of molars for grinding, as well as canines and incisors for tearing, we are an omnivorous animal, if you have a problem with that you were born the wrong species

and no im not syaing you are a lycanthrope or any other form of mythical being

also i refuse to be politically correct on this issue, people seem to forget that plants are living things as well, but apparently because they cant move and have even less of a voice than animals they don't count, according to vegetarians, its not alive if it cant make noise and stare at you with cute little eyes

I agree with you completely, Fletch. We were made to eat meat as well as plants-there is nothing wrong with it. Also, I also support your comment on plants.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????

As long as the animal is killed humanely, quickly and painlessly, I don't have a problem eating meat. It's everyone's own choice.

I do think that we should be making the most of our current farmland, though, because our population is exploding and our forests are cleared for farms. We produce much more food and calories in a square mile of crops/plants than we do with square mile of cows. If we grew more crops and less animals, and therefore ate more products from crops and less meat, (note that I didn't say eliminate meat completely), then we could feed more people in the world and reduce the need for more farms. But, then again, it's controversial, some people hate vegetables, and some areas are too dry for crops whereas cattle can easily be raised on that same land.

Lol if anyone went to the extreme of not eating anything that lived, they wouldn't be able to eat anything except honey. That's a pretty boring existence, and an early death is inevitable.

Re: Am I the only one worried about the world these days ???????

Actually some vegans go as far as to not eat honey either, because it's an animal-based product. Some are against taking anything at all from animals, regardless of how the animal feels about it. Like sheep's wool for example; even though the sheep LIKE it when you shear them, they say sheep shouldn't be raised to have their wool taken away. There's also bath products, sugar, (Most contains bone char.) gelatin, and lots of other things that one would expect not to have animal in it, but it really does. Look at that long list of things they have to watch out for: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index … 544AAmRALG

Oh also, some of you seem to be unaware of vegan logic. While I don't agree with it, some say eating plant is not really killing it, it's just taking what it had. Also some believe through their practice they'll adapt/evolve to herbivore diet.

PS. The reason why I'm against eating baby animals is because we're humans, and we should have the sense of mind to be unbarbaric. Unless we're lost and starving in a forest, I really see no reason. I know some species hunt baby animals, and although I or anyone else can't go into their minds and know whether it's because they have no choice for survival or if it's just because they're lazy jerks, we're supposed to be the bigger animal and not do it when we know we have the means to get the bigger game.

"I can't walk past a kebab without imagining that there was once a live animal in there" and "I can't go outside when my parents are having a BBQ"

Please, can you walk past a greengrocers without thinking that there were probably live plants in there once? I doubt it. I agree with Fletch completely, needless hunting and hunting that prolongs pain is wrong. As is hunting endangered species. But some people are starting to take this 'no eating meat' for one reason or another too far. An animal in the wild is more likely to die due to being eaten than dieing of old age. Competition and Predation is too hard to avoid. As for soeones quote that said that hunting animals decreases their numbers, rubbish. Mass hunting, killing thousands and thousands of animals reduces their numbers. Hunting a couple of hundred is a number that can be made up within one season by most prey animals. The time when its a problem is when we hunt creatures that are predators and the top of their food-chains or are to big to be hunted naturally. This is because they don't usually get hunted so have very slow rates of reproduction (eg. Whales and Elephants) or are relatively unsuccessful at raising young to adulthood (eg. Big Cats etc). Half of the time we don't eat these kinds of animals anyway, I have never heard of any dish for Elephant meat. So they are being needlessly hunted.

Elephants are still poached for ivory, however.

I believe that harsher penalties should be imposed on poachers.

I think we have outdated the firing squad. Also, the death sentence would be a bit harsh for killing a non-sentinent being.

However, they should get a decent amount of jail time, and possibly jail for life if it's repeated after numerous punishments.

some people enjoy the feeling of providing food themselves, rather than being reliant on shops for their food, besides which, if you dislike the killing of animals because it hurts them consider the fact that hunting is most likely going to be a more natural and quicker death than a slaughter  house

also id advise you to go to a nutritionalist and get some ideas to supplement the lack of meat in your diet, there are vegies to help with this, but youll likely need to eat a crapload of it
