Announcement regarding the "religion" issue. (All members please read)

I've seen and heard of a lot of religion as of late and I believe that it has gone too far.

If you want to talk about your religion, go ahead, no one is going to stop you. It is good to learn about what others believe in.

However, you will NOT tell people that they will be d***** to h*** if they don't follow what you believe. You will NOT tell people that they will suffer if they break one of your religious laws.

Even though you may believe that what you are doing is right, others may not. So go ahead, talk about what you believe, but DO NOT try and force people to believe what you believe in.

If there is a topic regarding a religion which you do not follow, simply don't view it! There is no need to start an argument.

Here's an example, two of my best friends follow different religions but we get along just fine.

Please don't get upset over something small like someone saying "Amen"
That is the sort of thing that starts an argument.

That is a good point, DFOKN. Talking about religion is completely acceptable. If other people aren't comfortable, they don't have to participate. I think people should have the freedom to speak their beliefs, but not to the point of forcing people to believe in what they believe in. That's my say in the matter.

Thanks for making this.

Twice one member has tried to shove his religion down my throat on Spyro Chat.

I am sensitive about religion because of all the insults thrown at me in the past, before I came to this forum.

I never meant to shove my religion down anyone’s throats. Why remove my poll? You removed others as well that had religion on them. I did not even see the response to posts. I could not see how they took it. There for could not figure out what I was saying that offended people.

[glow=cyan:85e548bdc0] One person hu, yes that pretty much narrows it down to...MEEEE! [/glow:85e548bdc0] Since I am the only one who quoted from the bible. How about giving me a private message instead of going behind my back and making it so obvious who it was that offended you.

I never asked for you to post or even read what I said. Look here, I was quoting from the bible and there for it was not me who stated it. It was the one who wrote the bible. I was not the one who called you names and I have meant nothing other than sympathy. I felt sorry that you were called satanic.  I prey to god that you realize that your wrong about my intentions.

You are the one who put your self in this not me. I am not the one who dragged you into my religion. If you guys hate me for what I said than why not Bann me for a few days and then we will see what every one will have to say about it. Announce it to every one that you banned Adam the Christian freak. When I was little a guy pushed me to the ground and told me to go to heck. He hated me for the fact that our families did not get along. My grandmother was scoffed at by his father.

Fell in love with Spyro when I was little. I played it with my friends. They went different ways over time and I refused to let this go. I am seventeen and still enjoy playing the old games as well as the new. Game makers are of their own and I have no reason to disagree because they made it perfect

How about you stop making baseless assumptions? The said user is not you-I have been in chat on the occasions Aicebo mentioned, and you were not there.

EDIT:Not completely baseless, but it is lacking in evidence.

No one is going to punish you for speaking your beliefs. Obviously you and Aicebo aren't alike in the sense of religion. Maybe you had a disagreement. I have no idea. Aicebo is just saying that she has heard hateful things towards her in the past, and that's why she is so aloof when you talk about religion. I don't at all think that that is a good thing to do, judging religions for what some people might say, but I think you need to respect her, no matter how much your opinions differ.

No.  That is a pointless reason to ban someone. =/

Re: Announcement regarding the "religion" issue. (All members please read)

[sub]I have one thing to say:[/sub]

DragonFireOKN for Moderator!!!111!

[sub]OK, seriously, though, DFOKN has a point. I personally have a religion: I am Catholic. But just because someone doesn't share my religion doesn't mean I have to attack him or her.

I don't know of the exact incidents Aicebo is talking about; I wasn't online at the time when it happened, so I can't say too much on that. But I've seen a few comments on the forums that might be offensive, (probably without that intention, however) such as this one. [/sub]

Adam Thurman about [i:f5f44f398f]This Broken Soul[/i] wrote:

This is a Christian song and those who it bugs must have a hard life. God accepts those who come to him. "oh holy light" for example is like a beacon to those who are lost.

[sub]That may be your interpretation of the song, but it doesn't have to be everyone's. As Aicebo was the only person in the thread who said she didn't like the song, I assume that comment must have been directed at her, and can you see where that may be offensive?

It isn't the fact that you're talking about religion: People should be able to freely talk about their religions on this forum. It's the fact that it comes off as a little forceful.

It is perfectly acceptable to quote the Bible. It is perfectly acceptable to talk about religion. It doesn't make sense to me that anyone should be offended by simple things such as that. It's when comments, to use Aicebo's phrase, "shove religion down someone's throat" that it becomes offensive.

I suppose I should add in a little disclaimer about this post to avoid flame wars: Adam Thurman, this entire post was not all to do with you. I merely used your post as an example, and I'm sure your intentions on that post were not to offend anyone.[/sub]

If you where talking about another user I am sorry but you took it as a defense on my other posts. I guess I need to learn not to jump the gun. I get emotional real easy hints the reason why I have a journal and aspirations to become an author. When you guys say that someone said that you were talking about some one else, me being the one who quoted from the bible it seemed that you were talking about me.

Perhaps we could put this behind us and agree to disagree about our religions. I am clearly not the one to bring Jesus into your life. As I said before I have only sympathy for what has happened to you in the past. If your religion is not Christianity than what is it. Perhaps I could then understand you better. It might be easer to pm me rather than taking up space.

i dunno if it was meant to be funny but it was

as for the issue at hand, i dont know who it was that offended aicebo but my issue with Adams posts is that if anyone questions his beliefs he takes pity on them and suggests that god loves them anyway

now that might not be as bad as "well then youre going to hell you heathen" its still offensive to me, i dont relish the idea of being pitied because i dont believe in your version of god, its patronising.

now im sure my comments on such posts were taken as kindof provocative, the reason is this, if someone wants to discuss religion, im happy to do so, but they should then be prepared to be questioned about it, and defend their position, just like if i were to start a thread about how spyro is obviously agnostic then i would defend my position, both regarding that, and regarding my own beliefs

or to use a better comparison, if there was a discussion about the atheist themes in the golden compass novels by phillip pullman then christians would have every right to come in and ask what you gain from not believing in god

the problem is, just about every topic in the world can be argued and it can then sprout into different arguments revolving around the same general theme
but as soon as religion is mentioned, tempers flare, for some reason, religion is often not allowed to be questioned, i think its because religion is based on faith or "belief without proof" and so religion will always have trouble defending its position, i feel however, if you believe in something so strongly, then you should be able to explain why, you don't need physical evidence, give reasons why you "feel" god exists, and why he does the things he does

I don't have one.

Before people start calling me an athiest, my family believes there is a god. But. We don't do all this praying and church and asking for forgiveness and calling him "Our father" and "the lord".

Thank you, DFOKN! I agree with you completely.

Luckily, no one has tried to force religion down my throat at SpyroForum. However, it has happened on RuneScape, and when I told one of my Classmates that I wasn't religious, she gasped and said that I'd go to hell.

Now, I may not believe in God, but I do believe in an afterlife. I believe that when you die, you become a free spirit. I don't believe in a heaven or a hell.

Re: Announcement regarding the "religion" issue. (All members please read)

Well said DFOKN, I may be a Protestant, but I do not like the idea of forcing my religion on someone, and I for one do not have a sense of "hatred" towards other religions, I just respect what other people believe...although a few I sometimes wonder why, but I try not to think about it, but I do sometimes disagree with another religion's special beliefs (not the god or anything, but some of the actions, I won't say any religions or any rituals unless it's alright).

Thank you! I get very annoyed whenever someone tells someone else that their religion is silly and this person's religion is the only right one. What happened to "open-mindedness"?

Agreed DFOKN! Malefor tried shoving religion in aicebo but Aicebo stopped him and kicked him from SC. Malefor says "OMG YOUR GOING TO BURN  IN HELL NOW" just because someone said holy crap. Seriously, I am tired of Malefor's crap mostly on SC!

I kicked him once because he wouldn't stop.

He was really starting to get on my nerves, I repeatedly told him that I don't have his religion and that I don't believe in hell.

fighting over religion is pointless. There's already enough things that people make arguments about. I am protestant, but I was also raised to simply accept others decisions. it's their life not yours.
