pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

ok i live in ohio and on fox8 news i saw that a pit bull ban was set in place i think that this is totally wrong its how you raise your animal so i want you to comment and i want to hear if you think pit bull ban is a good law heres the thread and link to the story

"A law was passed Monday evening to ban pit bulls in Lakewood -- from this point forward. This means that if you're a Lakewood resident and you already have a pit bull, you can keep it. Nobody can move a pit bull into the city, however. Fox 8's Lou Maglio has the details."

Re: pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

They may be aggressive but that's no reason to completely ban them. You can train them. Thousands of bull dogs/pit bulls are left in a shelter everyday. If they ban them, that's more and more pit bulls who couldn't find homes. So no. I think it is wrong.

No. Pit bulls are naturally agressive dogs; they don't learn that agression from their trainers. Pit bull owners own them mainly for self-defense - it's kinda like having a gun under your pillow, i.e. for a feeling of personal security. That being said though, humans have less control over pit bulls than a gun. Owners are more than likely not careless, considering the fact that they realize they own a pretty dangerous animal.

I think it was the right decision to ban pit bulls.

well really all dogs can be naturally agressive from tehir wolf ansestors{sorry if spelt wrong} cause yess they are a little more agressive but yet if tained an soicalized properly you wont have that problem antoher example is the effects of dog fighting that also let this law pass cause careless people again fighting for sheer gain of their own aquired evil

Actually, that's where you're wrong zizzle. Several breeds of dogs, such as the Samoyeds, aren't aggressive at all. Pitbulls, Rottweilers (sp?) and Dobermans are prime examples of instinctively and naturally aggressive breeds of dogs. The owners don't train them to be aggressive, they are, simple as that.

Your avatar/icon has been removed since it was bigger than the limit.

I don't think they should ban the dogs, there are plenty of good pitbulls out there.

Re: pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

If you ban cigarettes, we're just going to have a repeat of the Prohibition.
You have to ban cigarettes to ban secondhand smoke.
If you ban guns, many people will not be able to defend themselves as well and criminals will just resort to other weapons.

Pitbulls aren't necessary, and though they don't kill much people, they can maim them and possibly ruin them for life. Ban them.

Re: pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

Pit Bulls can be aggressive given their environment, but more often than not they're actually pretty calm and loyal, if excitable dogs.

I don't know the conditions, but there could be several reasons for a just ban on pit bulls in the area, like dog fights since they are usually "contenders".

That being said, it's not always how you raise your dog.  Pit bulls can become very aggressive, and given that they're large and powerful dogs to start with, well you get the idea.

Fun fact: can you guess what breed of dog they would have to ban if they wanted to ban the most aggressive breed?  Dachshunds.  As in weiner dogs.

Short-haired-Dachshund.jpg

no joke, they are the most aggressive breed of dogs.

Re: pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

yes, they are, but I'd rather be being attacked by a dachshund because they're tiny, and we're bigger, and we can easily fight them off.

Pit bulls however, were bred, specifically as a fighting dog. No matter how good you treat them, they are still highly prone to attacking people. It's in their breeding.

Re: pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

Make a license which is required to own pitbulls, youd have to register your pitbull and the animal people (RSPCA here in Australia, dont know about over there) would do periodic checks to make sure its being trained and looked after correctly.

but yes, pitbulls should be banned from the general public, theres no reason for someone who wants a pet and companion, to get a pitbull, as has been said, theyre specifically bred for fighting and security

as for dachshunds being the most aggressive, from experience I would have thought the chiuahua would've been pretty high on the list

Yeah, but chihuahuas are much less dangerous, considering their smaller size.

This is certainly the case in many cities here already. I know someone around San Francisco that owns several pit bulls, and he was charged with not having a license, since the city he lived in also banned the ownership of pitbulls without registering a license.

And I can further emphasize how dangerous they are: for however long he owned the pitbulls, one of them bit his wife's arm! So even your sibling, friend, or husband/wife isn't safe from them.

Re: pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

Nononono, read the thread - I've stated already that pit bulls are naturally aggressive. From what I know, these aren't the types of dogs you can train to become calm around anyone other than the trainer/owner, since the dogs are just that loyal. In the example I described, the husband isn't bad for one, and secondly isn't a careless person nor a trainer who teaches his pitbulls to do bad deeds simply because one of them chomped at his wife's arm.

Re: pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

Pit Bulls are agressive so i guess its ok to ban them for that reason. But they can be good for protection, if a person needs it. I can vagely remember that once a pit bull killed a baby so they can definently be dangerous to humans. I think that you should have to have a lisence to own a pit bull.

I dont think so. Pit Bulls are beautiful animals, and i dont think they such dangerous. Only when they are treated badly.

tigers are beautiful animals and yet they wont think twice about ripping your throat out, they can be tamed, but never completely, the tigers you see at zoos and circuses are still dangerous

pit bulls have been bred as attack dogs, that means throughout their breeding, the emphasis has been on their agression

Yup. No matter how nice you'd like to put it, pit dogs are meant to be brute and aggressive, and in my opinion, are no way beautiful.

Re: pit bull ban in ohio right or wrong

yea but the owners already have them can keep them but anothers will be euthanized and no lisense thats another point speicaly for breeders and other who have many you can only have one in your home i think to but  i think the lisense would be good idea but the idots inohio dont think of thigs like that but the flaw with a lisense is that almost everyone could buy one so dog fighting will still be an issue an those who have a dog but cant aford theh cost of a lisense will uffer an dog will be killed

watch this and itll show somthing hopeully  http://youtube.com/watch?v=oZsBTIdgSuQ

sorry for double posting but yes you have a point boht of you but any animal is never really tame if you think of it cause a husky will do the same thing as a pit bull or even a great dane twice size an weight of pit bulls an will  or could kill you if to ban an animal for behavior then all animals should be banned but also pit bulls orignally bred for hunting big game an protecting owners from bears an other animals in the woods
