High powered lasers = Yeowch...
Found this at a weblog I visit regularly, though I can't link to it because there are bad language flinging everywhere. Mostly aimed at the organizers.
Basically, a laser so powerful that it destroyed a camera has been pointed to a crowd. It is designed to illuminate the sky. Now, after the party, 30 people have been partially blinded. Some have been blinded up to 80% and it is unlikely they will recover. The organizers are hiding now and the victims are pressing criminal charges against the organizers.
Here's my take:
Lasers = OFF. I don't want to stay within close range of ANY laser that is exposed and energized. Enclosed lasers are ok, but when I work at them, I want to make it quick as possible.
Screw laser TVs too.

Even those puny tiny keychain lasers that you get at a dollar store has that warning.

It was a party, I'm gonna go ahead and blame morons (for lack of a stronger word) who don't know how much alcohol is too much

This is why you don't play with lasers. Inexperienced people shouldn't be allowed to handle lasers.

I do work with lasers when the power is off.
Fixing my PS1 was one.

Re: High powered lasers = Yeowch...
In australia it is illegal to have a class 3B laser devices and above in public (Or in your pocket), and it is illegal to import them as well.
The USA is watching australia's actions closely and might follow.
The media is 100% biased and incorrect against the use of lasers, so believe nothing of what they say about them.

you heard right, however jerk doesnt appropriately describe how id like to tear out one of their organs and force feed it to them through a funnel
as for the new laws, i dont think anyone needs to carry lasers of any kind in public, but i do think you should be allowed to import them, they should just require a license to do so or something

Re: High powered lasers = Yeowch...
A guy at a laser forum I visit is attempting to get a license for import. We will see if it is even possible to get one within a reasonable timeframe.

Re: High powered lasers = Yeowch...
My god people are stupid. If the lasers are meant to light up the SKY, why are they pointing it at PEOPLE?
Everything is funny as long as it is happening to somebody else.

Re: High powered lasers = Yeowch...
a) they were drunk
b) theyre *beep* heads who dont think about the consequences of their actions
c) they actually wanted to blind people (whether temporarily or otherwise)
or more likely
d) all of the above... especially since a and b often go hand in hand, vicious cycle kinda thing

Re: High powered lasers = Yeowch...
If lasers get banned in the U.S. it won't make any difference. No one obeys the law in the U.S.

Re: High powered lasers = Yeowch...
Banning lasers is like banning guns. Gun shooters for recreational target shooting will be shouting words all over when they have to turn in their recreational guns. Lasers are the same too.
