To answer the poll, not sure.

Re: Are you superstisious?Do you believe in legends, stories etc
To answer the topic title, kinda. My family believes that the number 4 is an unlucky number, but I definitely don't follow that belief strongly.
To answer the poll, no. Obviously. IMO, even saying "not sure" is ridiculous.

Re: Are you superstisious?Do you believe in legends, stories etc
I believe there are explanations for everything, and that there is quite possibly a number of things that we cannot currently explain without referencing the supernatural.
As for the world ending, now the mayan calendar was pretty high tech for its time to be honest, but i would require a reason why they believe the world will end that day. how do you know they didn't just decide to stop at 2012, lets think about it, itd be kinda hard to make a calendar which goes on forever so they had to stop somewhere.
Also lets think about the mayans for a moment, they were a civilisation in central america which likely had no idea of anything existing on earth, outside of their homeland. So why does the ending of their calendar, symbolise the end of the world? Perhaps it represents the predicted end of their world (seems they were off by a bit lol). Maybe it represents some other event that would cause them to believe they will no longer require knowledge of the years/months/days. Ancient cultures like these are said to have been visited by aliens, perhaps 2012 is the year the aliens will return.
Either way there's no use worrying about it, because ifits going to happen theres diddly squat we can do about it, i want to continue living past the next 4 years as much as the next person, but worrying about the time we have left, decreases the value of that time

I agree with your reasoning about the mayan calendar, and about us doing our best to enjoy ourselves until then, regardless. I also think that even if all these destructive events were to occur, we could still survive them by going into hiding, or moving to more habitable areas. But I don't really think we'll be wiped out in 2012 anyway.
Feel free to PM me anytime if you wish to talk, even if its just to randomly say hello

Re: Are you superstisious?Do you believe in legends, stories etc
The poles shifting is not a load of rubbish though. Every couple of thousand years the magnetic poles swap around. At the moment it is in a 'normal' state. The magnetic north is the same as the geographic north. But we are about 1,000 years over-due for it to swap. They have calculated it by studying the lava on the sea-floor near constructive plate boundaries (the Mid-Atlantic Ridge for example) and looked at the way little magnetic particles in the rock are aligned. By looking at that they can see which way the magnetic field was at the time. The graph for it looks like lots of different lines and is the same on either side of the ridge. The line for the present is very thick and should be changing any year now.
Trouble is, we don't know what happens when it shifts because man-kind wasn't around! We're also due for an Ice Age and a meteorite strike but those are less predictable as they can happen just about anytime.
As for the world ending. The world will end when the Sun engulfs it. As for the world of mankind, depends on us more than anything. Humanity has already lived through an Ice Age.

Re: Are you superstisious?Do you believe in legends, stories etc
Of course Aliens have to exist! Our planet can't possibly hold all the life in the universe!
As for life ending in 2012.... no. I don't beleieve that. Not unless we pollute the planet enough to make it impossible for us to live on it. (Think WALL-E)
As for the world ending, I do NOT believe that! I mean, when we say world we mean earth, right? The planet can't just blow up. And I don't think the sun will have become a red giant by 2012. And didn't someone once believe that the world would end in 2000?
If life/the world does somehow end in 2012, then I'm not going to spend my time worrying about it. I'll just enjoy life while I can. If I live to be 15, I'll be fine with that.

I'm not really big on superstition and all that. Never works for me.
And I doubt the world will end in 2012.
We might have a close encounter with a large meteor sometime in the 2020s. But rockets will probably take care of that if it gets too close.
