Picking a laptop for me

My father plans on getting me a laptop. I'd prefer one that can play games well. Any suggestions on what I should get?

If you want to play games, it MUST be Dual-Core.

Re: Picking a laptop for me

My (dad's) Dell Vostro 1500 (Dual Core AMD, 1 GB RAM, Windows XP) runs Need for Speed: Most Wanted perfectly at medium settings. It's the one I used for the gameplay videos on youtube. It also runs Stronghold Crusader flawlessly at maximum settings. Then it run Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge flawlessly too. I'm yet to install NFS: Carbon on it.

My laptop (using right now) is an Acer Aspire 3050. (Single Core AMD, 1 GB RAM, Windows Vista) It can run Stronghold Crusader and Red Alert 2 + Expansion perfectly, but it sucked at NFS:MW and NFS:C even at the lowest possible settings.

If you have the cash, an SLI notebook will PWN desktops at gaming.

It doesn't matter. For Alienware, you shell out hundreds more for the brand name alone, when you can get the same computer much cheaper from Dell.

That's Alienware.

I'd actually consider getting one of those. But with a shocking pricetag of $3500+, then I'm going to get a PS3, Wii and a big tv instead.

RaidonMakoto: Also, that company is a division of Dell. And they are purchasing systems from Clevo or Sager then rebadging them. :s

(At least that what I heard from Engadget.)

Re: Picking a laptop for me

I once changed my friend's desktop backround to a copy of the BSOD. (I made the icons and everythink disappear) He was so freaked out.

Re: Picking a laptop for me

hmmm, well my XP desktop works pretty good for me, forgot all of the specifics, but I got it around father's day, so it was on sale. XD

But I'm also going to be getting a laptop when I graduate, even though that's a few years off, I want to know what to look for.
I really don't play any computer games, but I want something that's fast, reliable, and good for a hard working college kid. XD
