[Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

[sub]One of the reasons I like this forum is because of its general, welcoming innocence. I've been a member at some forums where all people do is make "adult" jokes, and I can't tell you how refreshing it is to come to a more "naive" forum like this one, where I don't usually have to worry about idiots making sexual jokes out of everything, and ruining my image of a perfectly ordinary situation, word, etc.

I know there's already been an announcement regarding this issue, but I thought you guys might want to hear it from a fellow member: there have been a few members who seem to think it's OK to make these sexual jokes. I won't name any names, but you know who you are.

It makes me very sad indeed to think that this forum might turn trashy because of a few little immature kids who can't control their hormones on the internet. Not only are there young children here, there are many older members like myself who don't care to see the vulgarities and perversions that certain pubescent preteens come up with. As the announcement said, we are a family community, not a let's-see-who-can-be-the-most-perverted community.

I've been reporting the various sexual references as they come up, but I really don't think it should be necessary to even have to worry about them on a forum like this one.

The bottom line: I'd really appreciate it if you'd all keep your hormones to yourself. The forum doesn't need to know the sick meanings you can make from a game of pool (congratulations, you've ruined my image of that game forever now) or what Gnasty Gnorc may or may not have done with the female dragons.

That's my opinion on the matter, and I'd like to get some feedback on it if possible. [/sub]

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

We've heard the concerns about the contents of certain topics in these forums several times already. Do we really need to bring this up over and over again?

[sub]I realize that, but this is a concern to me, and those didn't really seem to work.

Not like this will, but this forum is for feedback, and I'm just giving feedback.... Sorry if it annoys you. =/[/sub]

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

Well said Stormy, it does get rather frustrating seeing it. However, you shouldn't just stereotype all males, as I've seen instances on several forums of females doing what you're talking about. Therefore, I find just a little offense with your comment; "It makes me very sad indeed to think that this forum might turn trashy because of a few little immature boys who can't control their hormones on the internet." Females are just as capable of these things as males, therefore you shouldn't just pick one gender out like it's always them, and make it seem like the other doesn't.

[sub]While all the ones I have seen are indeed made by males, you're probably right, my mistake. *edits*[/sub]

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

Nono, it's fine Stormy, especially since the announcement you've linked there is now locked.

@ the topic: yes, I do agree that the forums here are a lot more innocent in nature than a lot of other forums I've been at, and that's just as well. However, I've noticed some phrases that could be of common everyday usage were filtered (Doppel mentioned one like "hard"-"on" [words are together]), yet some phrases like "shut up" aren't. Just something I noticed.

[sub]Oh, OK then. ^__^ Just sharing my opinions.

The new filter is a little strict; I agree. Filtering "Hard - on" is just a little extreme.

Again, I'm sorry for generalizing, Blaze the Dragon. I feel bad now. sad[/sub]

Stormy, those immature children won't stop until they're in some way punished. Trust me, I student teach and deal with 10-12 year olds all the time.

Wow, I congratulate you for managing to teach kids of that age. I hear from a lot of people that they can't stand (or they "hate") kids especially of that age group. Understandably. ^^;

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

[sub]I know, and that's what frustrates me. I can't do a thing about it except report the posts; it's maddening. >__> And even then the posts have to stay in public view until a mod comes online and removes them.

I seriously think this forum would benefit from a good set of strong, concrete rules in plain view of the entire forum. The Spyroforum guide is a start, and I think you and Spyrorocks' idea of auto PMing new members might help. They could get sent a brief copy of the rules, or something.[/sub]

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

Don't feel bad Stormy, the majority of people generalize pretty much every day. It's just something that's mainstream, really. Which is basically why I avoid using the words "never" and "always" as they lead to generalizations. Generalizations are rarely true.

They can be a pain at times but the rewards are great. (I take college classes in History and Literature) If I student teach, I get a free year of college as long as I stay in state. (Free tuition, books, dorm, etc.)

I need to write a new rules page for this forum.

Unless they make it blatantly obvious, it won't be a problem.

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

You know that we moderators work to keep the forum safe and secure. Sometimes things are said that we don't catch (try reading every post of every topic that is posted in on every forum on this forum multiple times a day, and you'll understand how difficult that is), so if you catch anything that qualifies as an "Adult" reference on this forum, please PM me and you know that I will personally and promptly take care of it and the offender.

You can also press the icon_report.gif button (which is beside the icon_quote.gif button) to report posts.

[sub]I know that, Doppel; I said I'd been reporting the posts. The problem is, they're still there in public view until a mod comes online to remove them.

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

I know! How about if one of the three (LoneKnight, Spyro and SR) gets assigned to view the forum all day? Then they change shifts every day.

At least there's an "always-on" mod.

(EDIT: Don't forget Razz!)

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

[sub]Um, I don't think that will work too well. Moderators can't just change their everyday schedules just so someone can be online every minute of the day. And the situation isn't nearly as bad as that.

I say we get some new mods. I've got a couple recommendations if anyone (Spyrorocks, LoneKnight) is interested in hearing them, but....[/sub]

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

How about me? I am literally NEVER been absent since the day I joined up. I managed to balance everything. Even if there is school exams, school quizzes, projects, doctor appointments and etc. I'm still present. And I still got my grades up!

If a member like me can do that, of course they can do as well.

It's a matter of striking a balance. wink

EDIT: Also, I'm balancing Youtube, Vimeo, Deviantart, Gmail, Engadget, Benheck and Tweaktown and I still keep on going. I'm most active on this forum, however.

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

[sub]You would? I find that hard to believe. =/

Seriously, though, I have some people in mind, and neither of them are me. XD Ask me if you're interested.

This place is in serious need of some more mods in my opinion. Not that the current mods don't do a good job, it's just that they're not active much.[/sub]

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

Well, I saw at Mod Talk or Member's Council that you can earn that back. And you (Stormy) emailed me that I can also earn it back if I prove myself.

I'll let things keep on going, I think...

Re: [Feedback] "Adult" references on this forum

[sub]It'll take more than a couple of weeks to do that.

Also, I'm not Spyrorocks, so I couldn't tell you that for sure; it's entirely his decision as far as mods go. That email was purely my advice, no more.

I didn't say anything about you being a mod on this thread, so if you could please leave me out of it, I'd be grateful. The last thing I want is a flame war about who should be a mod. ._.[/sub]
