Re: Religion

Ž · These kind of topics... THey don't fit for the question 'why'... I don't know why, it just doesn't feel right, especially when it comes to religion.

Some people stop believing in Christianity for that reason- they don't believe in hell.

Re: Religion

Why did you stop being Christian?

Up until the start of my teenagerhood, I never really thought about my beliefs, I took them as given from what people told me... then I just stopped to think about it and suddenly it all seemed wrong.

The idea that these fantastical things existed like God or the afterlife felt too unrealistic and nonsensical... so I just lost by belief right there (if you could call it that)

As for fictional characters being religious, I like to think that no character has a religion unless it's explicitly referenced.

Correct. It is best to learn about quite a few diffrent religions then pick your choice. We all do have a choice....

(But, whats weird is in the Bible, Jesus says that everyone has a choice, but then he has planned out your life for you. Thats not much of a choice if he has already mad eit for you is it? What ever...)

The finite mind cannot understand the Infinite God.

I am Christian as well.

Re: Religion

Well, I have no religion in particular. But, don`t start thinking "Atheist" either, because I do have a sense of spirituality. I simply revoke the idea of having a specific religion and/or gods. What I believe in are morals, virtues, redeeming qualities. I believe that so long as I persue a righteous path, it doesn`t matter who I use to personify that path, because it is righteous, and therefore good by default. If I HAD to choose a religion, though (however much I`d resent the forced belief) I`d probably choose Buddha or Hindu, due to their peaceful, open-minded teachings.

Re: Religion

I'm letting this slide, but the first post that starts a burn on anyone or any religion, and we can expect to see some topic-closing action.

In my experience, I don't think that any religion is completely correct on everything. We are missing a great deal. Try to think of it this way; you show a dog the contents of an Algebra book. While the dog may stare at the equations on the pages, he does not understand it. I believe there is a similiar relationship between humans and God. It's right in our face, we experience it everyday, but we will never be able to understand it.

Not only that, but not understand something leads to destruction - the countless millions (yes, millions) who have perished as a result of fighting for 'God' or our version of God. It's been going on since the dawn of humans on every continent and continues today. (Holy Wars, Human Sacrifice, the Crusades, Armanian Genocide, Holocaust, pre and modern Jihad). It won't change unless something is done about it.

But, religion is there. There are many things we can't explain that we attribute to God. Originally, it was matters like the Sun rising and setting, etc. Now adays, it is things like ghosts, possession, that make people think they exist. I personally believe that ghosts and demons do little with religion. I believe these are either sentient beings of some sort (interpret that however you wish) or a result of the human mind run amoke. Humans are capable of vast feet through our minds. Scientists speculate that every human has a potential for mind reading, sensing when a loved one thousands of miles away is in danger, telepathy, and moving objects with your mind. We already have some of these skills that aren't natural (i.e. sensing when you are being watched, being able to sense danger before it happens, being able to activate a mountain of adrenaline at an instant notice, and basic premonition (deja vu).) Premonition is recognizing a place  or experience before you've ever experienced it. Scientists believe this connects to basic viewings of the future, but our grasp on it is so primative, we cannot activate it when we wish to.

Another thing that makes me believe in God is life. What causes life? No, I don't mean how did life begin. I mean, how to we create it? Let's say you make a body yourself. You artificially grow bones, skin, muscles, tendons, etc. But it's still a dead body. How does it become animated? How do we provide the spark of life. I believe that is what God is responcible for. Adding that spark of life.

Those are my thoughts.

I'm a practicing Roman Catholic.

Re: Religion

Ž · Being Catholic in our country is highly practiced, and it's influence is largely obvious in the Northern and Middle parts of my country. But strangely enough, the entire southern part of my country is Islam @_@ that's why I DO NOT want to ever go there.

But I really don't know about what I wanna do... because I'm just going with the flow of the family so I got influenced with the religion. But now that I thought of it... but darn, I can't just let it go.
