Re: The fight between new and old spyro
quick post
Halo - not a platforming game, if it was considered one, then all FPSs would be considered one, counterstrike, enemy territories, quake, all involve jumping, but the difference is that jumping isnt the main focus. basically all FPSs have some platforming elements, but they are already classified under FPS due to the first person view, and the shooting being the primary features
Mario - the most id say its evolved is graphically and content wise, otherwise the formula is much the same, simple attacks to kill small somewhat cute creatures, to save the princess from bowser, there have been spinoffs but they havnt permanently changed the series.
insomniac - most of us realise they wont take over the reigns ever again, our hope lies more in the chance that a future developper will say "hey, they were really fin when the world was all happy and stuff, lets give that a go" of course if they do a lousy job of it, theyll do more harm than good
finally i still disagree with the "people want to play more serious games" line, ratchet gave a nice list of cartoony/happy platformers that have been pretty successful, but other games that arent all DRAMA BLOW THIS UP KILL THAT GUY SLEEP WITH THAT *bleep* that still do well include the pokemon franchise, games like harvest moon and animal crossing, zelda (which you'll notice has managed to run 2 simultaneous timelines, one dark and moody (with some humour) and the other fun and silly)
also ive said before, and im pretty sure its still true, the Wii is the highest selling console, and people definitely dont buy it for the Halo-esque games, the people who think spyro is boring and Halo is fun are usually the ones who look for a game that has "oooooh pretty graphics" or they have issues that warrant blowing stuff up

I just want to say the Oringal Spyro and TLOS are connected in a weird way. In some random, weird, unexplainable way!
Thanks spyros#1fan

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
Spyro had to come before Figment because Figment wasnt made untill of late because of the Graphical Design of him...They may have had drawings of him early....but i dont remember them haveing anything with him in it before Spyro was made. Becase when Spyro was made....graphics wernt that great compaired to now...and all the things Figment was in there had excesively good graphics.

Are you thick? Figment is ANCIENT. The Imagination ride is almost as old as Epcot itself. He's been around alot longer than Spyro (not that it really matters, their only similarity is that they are purple. Figment is a bi-ped, Spyro is a quadro-ped)

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
I actually dont think so.... Spyro was originally green, meaning his design wasn't based on figment.
Oh, and in my opinion, As Spyro gets older he will be able to begin standing on two legs, like the rest of the dragons!

I guess i came here because of my ongoing loyalty to the original games (even though not one had been released in 6 years).

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
I've never stopped being a Spyro fan. The first ever video game I ever played YotD and that was when I was very little. I then got 1 and 2, followed by SoI,EtD,Adventure/Attack of the Ryncoc,AHT, and so on. I liked them all (mostly because I was young enough to laugh at the jokes in AHT). I didn't mind the LoS sries, either. In fact it's a good thing they made it because it brought in so many fans.
[https://www.fanfiction.net/u/5597209/spashthebandragon] I've got fanfics for Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Frozen, and Spectacular Spider-Man. Err, separately, I mean. Not some weird crossover thing. Those are all separate fanfics.

Thats what iv been saying. Spyro was starting to die out, but newer games brought some fans back even newer fans that havent played spyro befor.

But the number of fans is still very low compared to the original trilogy. Spyro and Crash were pretty much the mascots of the Playstation. The Legend of Spyro games are kind of "rent at best" games mostly. Most people will just rent it and it doesn't have nearly as big a following as it did, not to mention both fans and critics alike agree that the old series was better.
I've said it before, Spyro's dead by all means, just in a persistent vegetative state that can't really be considered "alive".

Re: The fight between new and old spyro
True, but they are starting to return tho. Thats the good thing, bad thing is that its still lower then it once was, but they are returning and pulling in new fans and some old fans.
