Re: The fight between new and old spyro

You were saying things completely out of context, such as 'the stupidest comment of the year', but good point, you're not exactly a T.L.o.S basher, it was what you were saying and the way you were saying it that I was piqued about.
And for the reasoning that they didn't know what they were doing, I think they did, but they were trying too hard to make an exact replica of the first three and failed. AHT was kinda fun, but it wasn't that good (except for Red). But good is to the eye of the beholder. That's why I never rely on game reviews or critics.
And I'm trying to explain my myself am I? When I don't have to explain myself to you for stating my opinion. Anyways, I don't wanna get into anything more than a debate, (a FRIENDLY one) so I think unless you want to argue, let's just agree to disagree big_smile.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro

granted, the "stupidest comment of the year" remark was out of context, but i felt it was warranted, it wasin response to all the insults heaved on us and the fact that the opposite side of this debate, tend to state an argument with no evidence involved and it frustrates the heck out of me, "old spyro is never coming back" is not an argument "i dont think old spyro is coming back because of _____" is an argument, comments consisting of the former serve only to insult those who are in favour of the old series and thus provoke over-the-top sarcasm and reactions from people like myself

that and i really did find it silly that doppel would try arguing that its not an imposter just a different dragon who looks similar and is now the main character in all games called "spyro"

and i shouldnt say the producers of ETD and AHT didnt know what they were doing, the problem is somewhat like you said, they tried and failed to replicate the insomniac games, i still feel that someone out there if given the chance would be able to replicate them with successful results... perhaps replicate is a bad word, but at least use them for inspiration

i guess thats what this argument revolves around, people like me wish that krome had looked to the originals for inspiration, by which i mean more than just for the main character his side kick and to a lesser extent gems

but i can agree to disagree, ill just have to try harder to vent my frustrations elsewhere.
but if i see "you got pwned" in a debate again, i make no promises >_>

Re: The fight between new and old spyro

We have different opinions on what should've been done with Spyro (I like where it's going with T.L.o.S, and I've played every console Spyro game).
Doppel favours the new series, like me, and he's probably just as irritated that some Original-only fans keep saying that T.L.o.S is not Spyro.
Spyro is...he's different, completely differnt to what he used to be because it's a reboot, it has nothing to do with the old series expect for the fact that there's a small purple dragon called Spyro running with a dragonfly sidekick called Sparx (I know I'm repeating what a lot of others have already said).
The argument will never be solved, I don't know why people bother. Yeah, some people like you want a game more like the Originals, and some people like me want them to continue the way they are now. Because of this, we can't all come to a conclusion, which is where the 'agree to disagree' comes in.
Do you have a younger sibling? There's the answer to your frustrated anger problem (punch em') wink.

Well why did they have to reboot the series?  sad  I became attached to the originals as a child and I haven't played a new game like them in a very long time.

unfortunately sierra (who i understand own the rights to the franchise) made a whole bunch of errs in judgement in regards to producers of post insomniac spyro resulting in ETD, AHT, Orange and stufflike that

the answer is there shouldnt have been a reboot, but sierra are clearly lazy and probably more focussed on other bigger name games

the result is people like myself who enjoyed the collecting, the quirkiness, the exploring, are shafted, we now have to turn to mario galaxy to get anything close to the same experience and i tell you what, i was playing mario galaxy a couple hours ago and its really not the same

it makes me wonder if people would be a tad more sympathetic if all the games in their favourite genre were cancelled, potentially permanently.

but as i keep saying, i stay hopeful, tLoS officially ends after DoD and whilst that doesnt mean they wont keep the same genre and gameplay, itdoes give hope that they might listen to the older fans and have a crack at reproducing the old style gameplay, the worst they could do is fail and have people buy the game anyway (because of the name) and then go back to what they know theyre good at

though now i think about it, im a tad confused, cuz a different company is finishing tLoS so lord knows where theyll end up

Re: The fight between new and old spyro

maniaconwheels, your cool, because you actually give reasons for your arguments...unlike some people. Doppel, there is absolutely no point saying things like "Old Spyro isn't comming back" or "you got pwned" because why? They have no argument and no evidence. This topic is NOT about whether old Spyro is comming back or not, or Insomniac, so if thats the only things your going to say, then you should just LEAVE!

Yeah, Maniaconwheels, I'm not really Talking about ETD or AHT, i'm talking about the originals, you know, those first 3 games made by insomniac. ETD and AHT was not an example of what old spyro would've been if he continued, it was an example of crappy developers who didn't make the games to the best of their abilities. As Fletch said, i recon if a remake of all 3 insomniac games was released on the PS2, it would seell much weller than ANB or TEN! Just for the record, ANB and TEN are advertised tons, look in any catalogue and you'll see TEN and Crash Bandicoot smack there with all the bargains.

"but as i keep saying, i stay hopeful, tLoS officially ends after DoD and whilst that doesnt mean they wont keep the same genre and gameplay, itdoes give hope that they might listen to the older fans and have a crack at reproducing the old style gameplay, the worst they could do is fail and have people buy the game anyway (because of the name) and then go back to what they know theyre good at"

Watch out Fletch, soon Doppels going to appear with a quote from the developers and say "Original Spyro's NEVER comming back, lieve with it" like he's said 1 billion times. 2 more times and i'm PMing Spyrorocks, he normally takes the TLOS lover's side but we might get lucky.

Re: The fight between new and old spyro

Ratchet, I honestly don't believe Spyro games are ever going to return to the way they were in the first three games by Insomniac.

Now let me clarify, (if you haven't read ANY of my posts), I LOVE the Insomniac games, and I don't care for the Legend of Spyro games much at all. I mean honestly, it's just another generic "beat-em-up" game in a 3D realm.

However, since the LoS series IS selling reasonably well, AND the games are popular enough to warrant a film being made, I can't see them changing the formula and going back to basics.

It's possible for it to happen, if say, the remade the original Spyro games with better graphics for the 15th or 20th anniversary or something, but that's a long way off. Another possibility is if Insomniac were to repurchase the rights to Spyro, but honestly, they make enough money with Ratchet and Clank games (which are awesome and are the closest thing you'll get to classic Spyro gameplay), and they sold the rights to Spyro for a reason. They did everything with Spyro that they wanted to do, and I honestly believe they didn't want to be responsible for letting Spyro go stale, which, if you play games like "A Hero's Tail" or "The Eternal Night", you will see that Spyro has become more stale than a slice of wheat bread laying out in the sun for 15 days

How clear is their laziness? They did the right thing by nuking off their errors and starting anew! :-|

Uh, the originals have sold longer than TLoS is currently selling, of COURSE they'll sell more.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood his post.

Sorry if I came across as confusing. While I prefer the Insomniac games, I have played EVERY Spyro game to completion, except for the handheld games, and I don't HATE LoS, but they just don't match up to Insomniac's games in my opinion.

What confuses me is this, there are some people in this forum that dislike the Insomniac Spyro games (and I won't name any names), yet they have stated in other threads that they like Ratchet and Clank games... And that...just...well, makes no sense at all, since the gameplay formula between Insomniac Spyro and Ratchet and Clank is almost identical (with the exception of weapons)

Original: Platformer

Ratchet and Clank: Combat (weapons = combat)
LoS Spyro: Combat (elements)

Re: The fight between new and old spyro

Ratchet and Clank isn't quite a combat game, with the exception of Deadlocked/Gladiator.  It's mostly a platformer in almost every element.

And the gameplay is the same pretty much.  Similar controls and options and items.

Yeah, Deadlocked was an exception, but the previous games were clearly platformers. the main difference is that Ratchet had a much wider array of choice for weaponry

BOO!!

but seriously, idont know why people think they need to be worried about getting flamed, ipersonally have only "flamed" people who really irritate me, i dont care if they love theold series if theyre being annoying and shouting arguments with no reasoning behind them then i get frustrated and will yell loudly

i dont think even doppel and a guy will flame you for liking old spyro, its not until you have the nerve to say "i wish old spyro would come back" that you start getting told how spyro is never coming back and how you must suck at the new games (regardless of whether you mentioned them or not) and so on

the issue at hand is not what is better, it is why sierra decided to screw the fans over and change the game completely, and yes i mean the fans of the originals, those who played spyro for more than just the chance to play as a dragon, its fine to like the new series, its even fine to like them as much or more than the old ones, but its not fine to ridicule people who dont want an action/adventure game to permanently replace the game they loved

and doppel, the thing with ratchet and clank is, whilst yes it uses a lot more action than insomniacs spyro series, it also putsa lot of emphasis on puzzle solving and platforming, its also a fun bright worldwitha sense of humour, we dont care about the fighting part, if spyro wants a bunch of moves to beat stuff up, fine, but what we do want is the fun, theres enough drama in the world, go back to having spyro the small dragon who was the last hope for defeating gnasty gnorc, not because he was the chosen one, but because he was too short to get hit by the spell

the problem is you got irritated by people voicing an opinion you dont agree with ie. old spyro = good (bit more complicated than that but you get the gist)

i got irritated by you talking down to people who have that opinion and speaking as if you somehow know better than they do, if someone says i wish old spyro should come back, that doesnt give you the right to say OLD SPYRO ISNT COMING BACK, especially when, with the way you say it, you might as well becalling them a loser
