DB: I know that the shinigami of Deathnote is with you right now. He always follows the holder of Deathnote around, or should I say, his next victim. He betrays the holder of Deathnote once they use it too many times, causing an "accident" to happen to the holder, killing them. He then takes Deathnote back, and plants it for the next person, while the person's soul is cursed, to remain in the shinigami's possession for all eternity.

Besides, the Shinigami has been known to bluff, so as not to lose control of the soul of the person holding Deathnote.
