Re: Depression

whatever happens, theres always something more that you will want, we are never all happy.
At the moment, i want FRAPS and my emulator to work perfectly, i want to improbe on my gamemaker game, i want my parents to stop harassing me to go to bed, etc etc. it happers with everyone, if something goes right, something else will go wrong, who knows why it happens but it does.
my depression is not because i'm worried about the world, its that selfish depression that you get when you worry about yourself, sometimes i have great paranoia and anxiety.... other kids are alot more happier than i am, you can tell that they are, i dont know why, but thats depression for you, its a disorder wwhich prevents you from getting as happy as most people, some are born with it. I am depressed because i have to go to school, i have to get up at 7 in the morning, i have to wait for the bus in 2oC temperatures, i have to quickly do my homework before school so that i dont get detension, that i have to go to class and behave, i have to put up with the hard ground while watching assembly, i have to deal with kids tripping me over, putting my bag in milk or putting banana in my bag, and getting no sympothy even though i had done nothing to them. i have to walk 40 minutes home with a 6kg backpack on my bag, i have to do my homework and my chores, i have to find that one paper out of the 100s of papers in my room that has my work on it,  i have to go to bed and fall asleep without worrying about what tomorrow brings. I am depressed because i have to do that for more than 200 days a year, and sometimes its much tougher.
no one has the right not to be depressed, my parents say to me "why should you be depressed, you arn't missing a leg" but really that is one of the great mysteries of depression, its all in the head. Some people dont worry as much as i do, but i do worry.

you shouldnt worry so much about being selfish, its human nature to be selfish, you dont sound overly selfish to me, and frankly im of the belief that its worse to be excessively selfless than selfish, because you end up giving everything you have to other people and leave nothing for yourself

i feel the same way many of you describe and i put it down to a lack of purpose, and unfortunately its a vicious cycle, i feel without purpose even though i have a number of hobbies and projects id like to start/finish and because of the empty feeling when i sit down and try to make a start on anything, i get no inspiration, its not a nice feeling, but at least, because i have something i want to strive for, i dont give in to the emptiness i keep fighting because i have something to fight for

Amen, fletch. That was inspiring.

Grow up. If you live you live, and if you die you die. You are in control, most of the time. Use your brain and you won't die. Simple as that. Life goes on. As for Depression, I've never been depressed for longer than a few hours at a time, so I wouldn't understand the needing to commit suicide. My opinion is that you need to find a purpose and keep yourself busy.

Re: Depression

hey Fletch know that i feel the same feeling sometimes, but get bullied in school is a bad thing ratchet you should make something with it, and as loneknight says live your life, and as for the depresion...that's a mental thing...i sometimes was about to fall in it...but well, some people opened my eyes...the key to beat the depresion is being optimist and looking for the good part of the bad things that happens to you(trust me it works!)

If your life become too hard for you remember that...you have friends no matter what happens...we will give you a friendly hand.

That's the problem for the depressed; they have trouble finding a purpose in life, and it doesn't help when they have the "no one needs me anymore/I'm not useful" mentality. IMO, the depressed people needs to do something that results in a positive outcome for them - some kind of motive or incentive. Admittedly, that's probably easier said than done, but I can't really say much else since I've hardly been anywhere near depression. What fletch said is very true.

Re: Depression

see, with me, my parents dont need my help, they're fine, i dont need to worry about them, plus i have much less chores. In other words, i shouldn't be complaining as much as you, and i know that. But word out to people, Depression makes you sadder than you normally would be, its a mental disoder,  NOT AN EMOTION OR A COMPLAINT.

sounds to me like your parents need to be in a home, if they are as unable to help themselves as your post implies then you shouldnt be the one looking after them, and if not a nursing home then you should have a carer, and carer's tend to be paid by the government (at least they do here to best my knowledge)

and in case the thought crosses your mind, nursing homes are not just for the elderly, they tend to be for older people (maybe 40-50+) who are unable to care for themselves i wrked at one through most of last year

above all, and im sure you dont want to hear this if your caring for your parents more than they are for you, then its not exactly the best place for you to be, im sure there would be some form of government system which would be able to place you in more appropriate lodgings until youre 18, either that or you could live with some relatives or something, either way it wouldnt mean you couldnt still see your parents (that would be my biggest fear in  such a situation)

keep in mind i got all this from the fact that you have to make sure they take the correct pills, i would assume if they were able to care for themselves and you, they could do that themselves or at the very least one could do it for the other

Re: Depression

still, i dont think those responsibilities should be laid on you, youre 12 years old, the only stress you should be under should be school and potentially relationship related

so i can kindof understand that your mum cant take her meds on her own, and your dad cant either, but surely they could each help the other y'know? or failing that theres the carer idea, but im not 100% on whether youd have to pay for someone to do that or if the government covers it

Re: Depression

yeah but what im saying is a carer that comes to your home, like i keep saying i dont know how things work where you are, but i know over here in australia my friend's grandparents had a carer that would come to their house (it was a private house in a retirement village but im pretty sure they would go anywhere theyre needed) and she'd make sure they had everything they need, took their meds and ate their food

as a side note also, that same friend eventually moved in with her grandparents and helped care for them at which point she started earning money from the government for doing so but then she was 18 at the time

Re: Depression

We are lucky just to be human, if you think about it...

We make up approximately 0.000000000000000102% of all specie population... Just being human is lucky, I bet you wouldn't want to live as a cockroach or an ameoba.

Remember, being human is a 1 out of over 100 decillion chance... Commit suicide and your no better off then that cockroach...

Fish and single celled creatures make up about 98.2% of the world's population, want to know something? They have memory spans of 3 seconds... Compared to humans who have memory spans of 10 years (important memories are different since they are forever). Now don't you think that it's worth being a human, JUST to know what happened 3 seconds ago? Or would you rather be that fish that keeps going after the same fishing line because he forgets that it's dangerous. Maybe when you get caught you won't even remember how you got caught.

How would you like to be any other animal? Humans don't need to fight for survival, they barely need to work for entertainment...

In the human, dog, cat, dolphin, (and any other animal that can show emotion), there are 7 genes in your brain, they control how happy you are most of the time. If all 7 of these genes are activated (extremely rare), you will be happy at almost anything, including if someone in your family died or something. If 1 gene in your brain is activated, then you would be sad or angry at everything, even extremely good events (like getting every Spyro game that will ever come out. Here is the scale on what most people are like:

1 = Miserable, can't even love.
2 = Depressed, want to commit suicide
3 = EMO, will do anything to feel happiness
4 = Sad, temporarily unhappy
5 = Normal
6 = Optimistic, gets happy at most things
7 = Invincible happiness, never gets sad

Remember, these can change! Only 3 are activated at birth, and only 1 or 2 can become deactivated at a time (unless you smoke, since smoking kills these genes). You will become happier, just wait and get through your unhappy stage.

Yes, in that paragraph I said we are born EMO...
