I can't watch the video(so I'm not 100% sure what you did), but I think I have done that before. I allso made Spyro fall down in the middle of the cats. If you hold down L2 or R2, the camera will go crazy 
(while Spyro is in the middle of the cats)

The reason why this is happening is because the cats are preventing him from landing. (Game-wise it means that there is no free space for the model to land which causes the game to shift you upward. Since it detects you falling in space it'll like your falling. The post is too small to stand on anyway.)
