Hmn...I don't know. Probably the storyline would stay the same, but then in ANB there would be a huge guy dragon and a tiny girl dragon trying to fight him. The Spyro producers would get a whole bunch of mail and protesters screaming about sexism and violence against women... roll but just speaking about the storyline, I suppose it would be the same.
DOTD spoilers follow, still having to do with the topic, though.

When Cynder starts hitting Spyro (near end of DOTD) and asking why won't he fight back, then if they were gender-switched it would amount to a teenage guy hitting a teenage girl, and Activision would be sued for all they were worth.
Although I do think it would be cool to see if they were both switched, seeing the different interactions.

I know, people think that it's really sexist for something like that, but THEY are the ones being sexist...

agreed with Neotyguy40 and Nightwing.

but story-wise? i don't think it would have changed. the colors of them would make more sense, that's for sure. ^^ but i can't imagine anywhere in the actual story where gender would make an impact.

If Spyro was a girl and Cynder was a boy then I would laugh my head off and that would be really stupidly ridiculos. (However you spell it.)

Anyway, if Cynder was a boy... ... ... hmm I don't think that it will change all that much. Cynder guy or girl would still be Malefore's pawn... I just think as a guy he (Cydner) would be more determined to get out of his (Malefore) control and Cynder will be more on the lines of a rival towards Spyro.

Now if Spyro (original) was a girl... well, a few changes in dialog and looks... then there ya go. Still be fiery and headstrong, but the snappy comebacks will be form a girl than a boy.

Now if Spyro (new) was a girl... well that explains a lot! wink

If Sierra/Activision is sexist, which they 98% are, this is what would happen.
Ebil Spyro in ANB would have to be epicly re-designed.
Ember would have to be a guy AND be re-designed.
The color scheme would probably be changed. (Cynder purple, Spyro black)
The entire fanbase would be all backwards.
Cynder would have the same voice acting through all the LoS games.
Speaking of LoS, it would now be LoC.

Cesna we arent saying what would happen if spyro and cynder switched places we are saying what would happen if spyro was still the main character but was a girl. and cynder was a guy. I think that the comment that nightwing wrote about that scene is what would happen.
