Do You Think Dragons Need Armor?

I'm really not sure if Dragons need armor or not I guess it all depends on the situation.

I think the Armour is way to much.

What if general grievous had a shield and mecha he would be too powerful

they may not NEED armor but most of the time it will make anyone look cooler and tougher

I'm not sure...it probably depends on how the armor suits them... they were some DOTD armor i didn't find very pleasing.

armour is used for protecting so dragons would also use it for that not on how much it suits them -__-

Dragon-armor is just a bad way of trying to get more "coolness" into the game.

Scales don't block everything, and there is of course that completely unguarded chest/belly area. I figure metal plates for the unarmored region, chainmail around certain areas that might still be vulnerable (face, sides)

Of course, the wings are still vulernable, but there's not much you can do for them without hindering mobility severely.

I believe that dragons look much more beautiful without armor. Take
Saphira, Spyro, and Cynder as an example. They look much better without
armor.

Also, armor may not help as much, unless they are in serious combat
[Eragon: Main battle] [Spyro: Fighting Malefor]. Other than that, they
should not have armor. I liked it better before the Spyro makers put in the
armor sets in DotD. Well, at least we have a choice to wear them.

Hmmm... In the sort of fighting dragon seem to do, armour doesn't do a lot. If you get a great big warhammer and smash it into some guy with armour, it will dent, causing untold agony, broken bones, and un-necessary weight. So all Malefor has to do is sit on Spyro and he's king on the world. Sadly, he never thought of that. It would be so funny though, Malefor just sits on Spyro and it's game over.

Aceedwin's right. Maces, flails/bolos and hammers were made to smash the armor of knights in battle, as swords would have difficulty getting through the armor. Another thing I'd like to bring up though, is that in many legends and myths, dragon's scales are harder than diamond, making them practically impervious to anything but the sharpest blade, or a holy weapon. Armor is also very heavy and limits movement. If dragons needed armor that was strong enough to protect them, it would also be heavy for them, inhibiting their ability to fly high, long or far.

I agree with Blaze the dragon in most tales dragon scales are allmost inpervious after all there is that saying "As hard as dragon skin". But if a dragon has joined a large battle in which flying isent needed then some armour for a dragons soft belly,wings and eyes wouldent be a bad idea.

Armor looks stupid on dragons. With the exception of scaled eternium armor for Nether Drakes.

They just added the armor to bring a new "rpg" element and to add extra "coolness". Im sure many fans liked it.

Well it depends what series you are talking about!

There is no single series or franchise that controlls all dragon realated media.

I think the armor on Spyro and Cynder in DotD looks stupid. Plus, they're kinda just slapped on random places and wouldn't really offer much protection at all.

Well, no because dragons have built-in-armor, their scales are hard. The only place they do not have armor is on their stomaches.

IT can be used to agument (grammercheckplz) one's claws/tail/whatever, and then it can be used for protection. thickness of scales is also a factor of how much a dragon needs as well.

I think dragons need armor on their bellies maybe their wings but I don't know how they could keep the weight down other than that they don't need armor.

If the it was on the dragon's wings, it would cause distress when in flight.
If the armor was on its underbelly, well, I have no arguement over that.

Take the fight in the end of Eragon. Saphira's armor didn't protect her
from the evil man's magical attacks. They burned right through the
armor, and into her epidermis. Armor seems pretty pointless to me.

Its been a very long time since I saw Eragon but I seem to remember that part. I think it looks cool though but useless and pointless.

Thats true, but they all had there diffrent abilities like the black armour helped them with fury attacks, and the gold armour helped them with stand the attacks from other enemies, I fergot what the white arour did but I know it had something to with upgrading SpyroNCynder's breath abilities I think. So never under estamate the power of a dragon, you never know what will get thrown right back at you.

You all have to remember that armout isent onlly used for prattical use but phycologicall aswell. Some thing in armour looks more powerfull and scary than normall and I know Dragon are pretty powerfull and scary to begin with but armour enhances it.
