RPG ruined my life!!
RPG ruined my studies
I used to study only a few hours a day so I could get 5 or 6 grades at school, couldn’t find any motivation to study.
After I begin playing RPG, I figured out that would be much more easy and funny creating stories if I had the knowledge to do so. I wanted to know about politics to write about agreements between kingdoms, Biology to create monsters, Geography to create maps, English to play imported games (in my case, of course). I wanted to know History, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Literature.
I begin reading books from historians and scientists, trying to learn everything. I wanted to be aware of things, that’s why I stopped studying only so I could get average grades and started to study for fun.
I Read dozens of books for vestibular exam, that many young today hate. I studied with taste, understanding the useful of all subjects.
Now study for fun. As result, I passed in the best vestibular exams of the country in the first positions, and today I am one of the best students of my class.
RPG ruined my studies. The game made me enjoy reading and learning, something inconceivable!! Maybe I should abandon my high grades and back to those endless study hours without will and mediocre grades. My parents would be proud of me.
RPG gave me an alcohol problem
Before I play RPG, I have fun drinking until drop with my friends in the nightclubs and spend all my money with beer. Risked my life and other’s driving drunk. Spend all night out letting my parents worried for hours or days without knowing if I was fine.
After I begin playing RPG, I begin refusing alcohol. Its impossible to play under the influence of it since the game is an exercise of intelligence and imagination. The game taught me that I could socialize without the effect of any drug.
RPG gave me an alcohol problem. Now I don’t drink and I suppose that’s a problem for the drink’s industries. A conscious and intelligent young shouldn’t stay home rolling dice with his friends without bringing any preoccupation to his parents or avoid driving drunk.
RPG ruined my religion
Before playing RPG, I hated religion, blasphemed as a rioted young. I tough any religious ceremony was a tedium and didn’t even know anything about the Bible.
After I begin playing RPG, I was interested in religion, cause my favorite characters were clergymen. I started to question about the subject to people which know about it and was motivated when reading the sacred book, as well as watching to religious ceremonies to understand it. I never blasphemed again, now I feel a more educated person.
RPG ruined my religion. It must be much healthy to reject other’s faith to harass devoted people and to blaspheme against things u doesn't understand, instead of trying to learn, to respect and even being interested for your credos. Obviously, interest for religion it is something profane - after all, the Sacred Books are replete of citations to demons, as well as many RPG manuals!! It is not possible, therefore, that they give any sacred teaching!
RPG showed me violence.
Before playing RPG, I testified all violence types at TV and movies, and I tough that was quite normal. I used to practice infantile cruelties with animals, fought a lot at school, even without reason. Sometimes discussed with the people for anything, looking for an excuse for violence. In ballads and soccer stadiums, I was always the first to begin a tumult.
After I begin playing RPG, I started to think more about day by day facts and I figured out how serious is violence in the world. The game showed me something that TV didn't get - the difference between real violence and fictitious violence. I started to join groups of movements for the peace. Today I prefer to dialogue, even if being offended and not understood, then going into violence.
I don't see many action films, for considering them poor in storyline, just an excuse for blood and death.
RPG showed me violence. Certainty, instead of just to fake kill orcs and dragons, I should practice real violence as so many other young do. Should I be influenced by the media and, who knows to make some crime? Being pacifist and respecting life is, certainty, a defect that this game caused.
RPG ruined my social life.
Before playing RPG, I participated in parties and encounters in that the people degraded each other, drunks and drugged, staging an eternal theater of falsehood. A lot of times we made things worthy of thieves - always ready to humiliate and to harass those different from us. Prejudice was my second name.
I was always fashion, drinking more than other people, having the best car, seeing all the programs from TV, getting low grades at school, betting splits. The type of things the youngest do in their social lives.
After I begin playing RPG, I started to see how infantile and idiot was my old behavior - cause the game is populated of different beings from the human race, as elfos, dwarfs and goblins, could be all good ones or bad. Your acts, not your appearance, say what you are.
I started to meet with healthier friends - not to drink, but to talk in a friendly way, to increase my horizons, to feel less wrong. I started to know the people for what they really are, I was never again taken by appearance or prejudices. I have a much more active and stable social life, I have the people's friendship that think like me and they don't wish me bad.
RPG ruined my social life. It is unquestionable that the atrocities of the parties, the heavy consumption of drugs and the capacity to humiliate somebody are something totally necessary for a complete individual's formation. People that prefer to find the friends in movies, bookstores or restaurants - instead of nightclubs, clubs and bars - certainty they are the scum of the society.
Having fun reading books, What a nonsense!! Playing RPG contributes to build an rioted adolescent in an studious, diligent, friendly and open to new ideas adult. It is a game about friends' groups collaborating to accomplish a great objective, a game about heroes being sacrificed by the good of other. It is about tolerance to other races and faiths. On team work, trust, friendship and justice.
Obviously, all of this is a great problem. How could a complete person be useful in the world today?
Well friends, for my life history, that I believe to be similar to many of you, I believe: if a game of RPG was responsible for all this, it should certainty be prohibited.

Signed: A RPG player (or all of them).
This is a text I read at many other forums, old, but cool. I tried to translate it as well as I could, sorry for the errors…
OK, much of these things don’t apply to me, as I keep drinking, blaspheming and still hate studding. But Im sure it works fine for much people XD. This is something u can show people when them talk *beep* about RPG.

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
Are you just typing out a bunch of confusing paragraphs, or actually being
serious with me? I can't tell. Is RPG an actual game, or a roleplaying game
you are talking about? Are you feeling okay?
Sorry, I'm just confused right now. You said that RPG made your life
better, then the next sentence was saying that RPG made your life
worse ... about the same subject. Uh ...

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
tl;dr
But I know that WoW can ruin people's lives. Monetarily, relationship-wise, and even in ways that takes lives away.

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
Alright. Then yes, I am in full agreement with your short essay. Video
games really do infect [or poison] people's minds, depending on what they
play.
My foolishness for not getting the messge.
Gah, I hate WoW. Or any unreal game besides Spyro.

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
I play WoW and yet I am unaffected by life. Acing my classes, get friends and etc. I hate people in general, and I have socialphobia or something. Thogh I did meet an a WoW nerd...I wanted to punch him in the face.
Video games can lead to violence if you are really immature and can't seperate the line between fantasy and fiction. Like the person who killed his parents for Halo 3 or something. It's reasons like that I hate huge fads. WoW being the only exception.

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
Games are linked to maturity, like you said. I have seen little
kids making porn[po rn] mods for Wow before. Wow, it was pretty
annoying. Bad kids. Bad.

Fall for what? Kids making oprnographic modifications to W.o.W.? I don't
see why i should get smacked in the head for calling them bad for doing
that.
Maybe you should get smacked to let you know that I know what I'm
talking about? Respect, brother. I'm smarter than you think.

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
I think he meant what fbocabral wrote, not you Swaffy. Anyway, I think it also depends what the game is. If its one of those games thats kind of addictive, then its more likely to 'ruin your life.' I doubt an RPG can ruin your life though, its you who choses to prioritise it over things that should be more important.... I kinda failed a chemistry module from going on games too much.... Heh, thank God for resits.....

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
What about Second Life? Even its name suggests it will ruin your life, and being free will surely attract even more people.

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
whoa RPG ruined your life huh?
Think nothing of it just think of it as a small Problem, and keep telling yourself "I'll get over!" see that simple. Just think that to yourself and nothing will be able to stop you not even the games, if that's what you were talking about.

When bad things happen to me, I just try to calm down ( usually [93% of the time] works) and go back doing what I was doing before. I am used to those things happening to me. I am over the horrid................... until recently. :-|

Re: RPG ruined my life!!
err.......... well..... i can see some people didnt read the text, its big, huh?? <_< at least the end of it, maybe??
God!!! I think some people doesnt know something called IRONY
let me say this way: I hate when someone says odd things about RPG (im talking about D&D, for exemple, not MMORPG) like "the police has found many heavy weapons and drugs at the drug dealer's house. They also found an RPG game, which may be linked to the murder of the girl in a demoniac ritual" (yes, thats real, not fake). So, just because they also have a TV set, everyone who watch TV is a crimial too???
the text shows how RPG can be good and not a Devil's game or something. We must not generalize.

Yeah. I have been on one RP for a few months, and it is the least of my
worries. I stick to Xbox 360 and modding.
