It's just another one of those superstitions. Some people believed that the world would end before, I don't remember the exact date, but I wouldn't take it too seriously.

I meant that people predicted the world would end would end in the past. I remember they said almost the same thing in the year 2000.

My dad's been around almost 60 years and has seen countless Doomsdays predicted. Obviously, none of them came true.

Isn't there already another topic about this lol...but anyways....no the world is not going to end...and even if it does just live your life out every day to the best of your ability...then you would have nothing to worry about so long as you have enjoyed life to the fullest...

and... i didnt mean the end of the world... i mean something that could make people think and act different, something to change things for better. Maybe those scientists discover something that could make that happen.

Actually, the particle accelerator is already going and has been going for a long time now. I remember I was on the neoboards on neopets when people were making fun of the people that believed it the night it was activated; they were all like "Tonight the world's going to blow up, I'm going to watch it from my roof!" It was funny, really.

And look at the first link that Taco Goddess has posted. It's interesting and proves the world won't end. Just like a yearly calendar, a new calendar will probably start up or just not continue.

In the years leading up to 1999, a lot of computers which had dates in them were only programmed to go up to the year 1999. About the 2012 doomsday thing, I doubt it. I believe it possible that the Earth's existence may end sometime (whether it be next year or in the next billion years), but I don't think that particular predicted date is true. Maybe some guy who runs a survivalist shop was having a quiet month, and decided to start a rumour to boost his business... who knows.

I thought it had to do with the end of the Mayan calendar... or something.

Now, assuming that's true, they had to stop making the calendar some time, didn't they? If they had stopped on October 25, 4359, everyone would probably be saying that will be the end of the world. It's pointless to speculate these things since no one can really know for sure, and even if they could, what could they do about it?

Like our calendars, the world doesn't end every time a calendar ends, a new one just starts up. Just because it's a big calendar people probably worry too much.
