we still need a major cleanup of the censored words list
Ok, I've addressed this problem to SR quite a while ago, but basically there are way too many censored words to have a report-individual-words-for-reconsideration to be an effective method of fixing this problem.
SR didn't mind me taking a closer look at the censored list, once I (or someone else who would help me out) get that list. Unfortunately, at the time of his initial response, the list SR downloaded is on a different computer than the one he was working with.
I searched to see if I could find a list of censored words myself. There were a lot of google results, so I later responded to SR with a follow-up on some of the potential lists I've found. He responded by saying that none of the lists I've suggested to him was the one he downloaded. The censored word list he found was a compilation of several hundreds of words, which explains the ridiculous amount of censored words we still see that needs to be corrected. So far, SR hasn't followed up on me since.
I let time pass on for a while. But something like this broke the straw for me:
Probaby when I *Bleep* in church during the pastor's sermon. Ugh nasty.
There is a more embarassing story, but can't think of it right now.Edit: f a r t e d
Note that the word "fart" is not censored, but the past tense is. A person offended by this word should seriously go home.
Instead of having to wait for SR to get on the right computer to provide the list, why don't you provide me (and anyone else who would volunteer to clean up the list) by PM the direct link of the list he downloaded? It shouldn't be a guessing game as to finding which of the hundreds of lists on the internet was the one that's being applied on Spyroforums.
I'm putting this thread up because I would like to know if anyone else would like to help out in managing the censored word list.
SR is a busy person, but I don't think it's too high of an order to do this. I hope there's enough of a reason to have me nagging again, because I'm trying to help out this site. If nothing's being done, you gotta do a little pushing. As SR said to me when I first initiated this project, "Thanks for taking the initiative..."It's time to return the favor please.
Thanks for your consideration, mods and SR.

I would like to volunteer to clean up the censor.

Well, development can't progress until SR responds, and I'm guessing that won't be until December.

Re: we still need a major cleanup of the censored words list
Now this IS ridiculous. I'll be willing to help if needed.
Who would make a censored work list that included the past tense of a word but not the actual word? It's like censoring f***ed but not the word f***

Re: we still need a major cleanup of the censored words list
Well that's the result of having someone report a single word to be revoked from its censorship (see first sentence of my first post) - the word "fart" was originally censored until someone complained about it, but "fârted" still remained a *bad* word. You can already see how that's a poor way of -very slowly- reworking the censored list.
edit: I see you SR.

Re: we still need a major cleanup of the censored words list
I really don't understand why this issue is falling on deaf ears...
If SR isn't going to provide the list, I'm going to suggest that he'd remove all censored words from this forum and instead implement a list that I'll find somewhere on the net and modify myself. After all, there should be very few words that really needs censoring. I don't see why this issue should be less of a priority than any other suggestions on this forum.

I may be a new member here, but I agree, the censor filter does need cleaning up. And why is that word in the censor list? It's not a bad word...

Censored words were added from a downloaded list of words and little modification has been made to remove some of the more ridiculous entries. That's it in a nutshell...

Oh, that explains.
I don't think it would've taken long to make your own list. But then again if the downloaded list involves "censor bypasses" then I guess it's okay.
Btw, for those who don't know, censor bypass is when you attempt to bypass a word that's placed in the filter.

Let's see...
farted
Crap. Still doesn't work.
I would help bmah, but I have a lot of other things over here that I need to
do. Thanks for stepping up and saying something about it.

Re: we still need a major cleanup of the censored words list
I'm actually currently working on it. Stormy was kind enough to provide me the list. The list includes some well-known swears, obscure ones I haven't even heard of, and some ridiculous ones too.

Yeah, I told Stormy to take care of it.
