Re: Do any of you know what is happening to this forum?

I don't Adam, but perhaps he is fairly new to forums and socializing on the internet in general? It's not exactly the same as how a lot of conversations go in real life.
About half a year ago, my uncle got a new laptop, and so for the first time he was introduced to the internet (he rarely touched technology beforehand). He was initially appalled at how people conversed in forums and comment walls on Youtube. Fact of the matter is, a hint of lewdness here and there (but nothing serious) is normal for most internet conversations.
So I'm suggesting that perhaps Adam isn't used to forums in general, so he doesn't see the same style of formality here as you would in real life. Since most forums are informal, it really stands out when someone posts in a formal, gentleman-like manner.

The problem is, a lot of people on here don't know how to deal with their problems without using personal insults.

This is exactly why this site wouldn't be able to handle a debate forum, unfortunately. ):

Re: Do any of you know what is happening to this forum?

This is the best forum that ive been to. Ive been on a few other forums and i like how its not too strict but its not just letting you say whatever you want to either. Ive been on a forum where you arent even allowed to make Favourite *insert something here* topics because they supposedly cause arguments.

I talked about the Spyro games that were replacing the old. Seriously if you guys hate the new than don't buy them otherwise don't go on and on with how they screwed up.

[sub]I think we have every right to talk about what we don't like about the games. The problem, as you can all see from the "Fight" thread, is when people do it in a disrespectful way. Otherwise there's nothing wrong with voicing your opinion about what you don't like about the new or old games.[/sub]

ratchet wrote:

The LOCKING of the thread "the fight between old and new" (for one) was the bad thing that happened on this forum...

[sub]The reason that was closed was because it was getting out of control. It's fine if we "argue" sensibly, but unfortunately that wasn't happening, and the thread basically turned into an excuse to flame/troll.[/sub]

We can change this if we can get enough people to keep this forum in good hands. The Moderators are seeming to have a hard time with controlling the language we use. If you have read the disclaimer than you know vary well that they have vary little control over what is said on here but don't let that discourage them or us for if we come together we can surely change peoples minds. Than we can make this forum popular. Don't let people talk so badly about us outside our forum without good reason.

[sub]On the contrary, the mods have a lot of control over what goes on here: they can edit, delete, and move posts, not to mention ban people who incessantly break the rules. It just so happens that most of them are currently busy with one thing or another, and moderating Spyroforum.com isn't their main priority.

I'd say this forum is "popular" enough. What we need is for people to start reading and following the rules.

What really gets me is the "mature" content some of you feel is OK for this forum, and the amount of useless, spammy posts. On many occasions, I've seen people post stuff like this, devoid of any worthwhile content:
[/sub]

OMG!!

(post too short)

[sub]or[/sub]

I agree!

[sub]Could that be the "bad reputation" you're talking about? If it is, I agree; we need to change that.[/sub]

We won't appoint mods just if there is a need. There also must be a supply of people who would make good moderators. That doesn't mean you are on the forum all day. It means you act respectfully and work to make the forums safer, cleaner, and better.

Re: Do any of you know what is happening to this forum?

On the subject of mods, its been a week or so since SR said he would mod me. Lol.

Honestly, I don't understand why people just can't Be Excellent to Each Other. However, this is the Internet, and since it was made for pr0nz and slandering people anonymously, we really can't blame anyone. We can try our best to keep people to uphold the rules of the forum, but anonymity makes people say and do things they normally wouldn't, because they're not accountable for their actions.

So, yeah, I'd say to quit complaining, because this technically is spam anyways, and wait for it to be handled. If someone is doing something stupid, report it, don't b*tch and moan about it. wink

Yup, the only problem is if you say "I reported your post", they might spam you, or bi*ch about it to you. But I wouldn't worry about that wink .

Re: Do any of you know what is happening to this forum?

Now, I know I'm new here, but.

In my experiance, debates only draw immature behavior out of even the most patient of people - mostly because they get irritated at the immaturity of OTHERS, haha. While debates are often a very interesting and fun source of entertainment, it's hard to keep them regulated without someone pulling the old, "Help, help, I'm being oppressed!" or - dare I say it? - "It's my right under the First Amendment!" Ahh, the good old Freedom of Speech argument.

But back to the topic at hand. From what I've seen of this forum (and though for the most part, thus far, I have been merely a lurker), it seems more "grown-up" than a lot of the other forums I have had the pleasure of joining. Honestly, I think there is no reason to fear for the Apocolypse just because a few people talk about the forums on their deviantART. They're entitled to their opinions. wink (oops! I just pulled the "1st Amendment" defense. My bad.)

Well i guess That that doesn't apply to this forum, as the immature people in debates just come out because they cant seem to find a good point for their argument.

whether that's true or not, getting into it here is only going to get yet another thread locked

plus the irony of people not giving reason to their points in an argument about people not giving reason to their points would likely end the universe

Re: Do any of you know what is happening to this forum?

just the fact that some people involved in an argument about people who dont give reason to their arguments are not going to give reason to their arguments thus starting the cycle all over again

Re: Do any of you know what is happening to this forum?

Okay here we go.

You said that people on the forums were not giving reasoning for their arguments.
Someone could take offense to that and argue with you.
Someone who doesn't give reasoning for their arguments could then join the argument.
Someone else would then complain that some people on these forums don't give reasoning for their arguments.
Someone could take offense to that and argue with that person...

See what im getting at, its never ending, and also ironic that there could be an arguement about people who dont argue properly, in which people might not argue properly.

Dangitall, now youve made me confuse myself.

I don't find that there is very much wrong with this forum at the moment. Sure, there are a lot of spammers, and arguments, but all those things are normal, and can be dealt with fairly easily.
