Help With My Fan Game
Post here if you would be interested in helping with my game and list what areas you would like to help with. The game will be setup in a similar fashion to my screensaver, so look at it if you want to see how things will be done. The language the code will be in is C++. The game will be a 2D side scroller. Scripting is writing out lines of text that the program will use to generate the game. See screensaver for example.
Code:
Me
Art:
xXSpyrofanaticXx (Sierra Forum)
Cynder 1500 (DarkSpyro)
Hail The Ice Dragon
Dark_Cynder (DarkSpyro)
Music and sound:
xXSpyrofanaticXx (Sierra Forum)
spyrorockforeva
Story:
Martin24 (Sierra Forum)
spyro's #1fan (Sierra Forum)/Ignitus's #1fan
miles tails (DarkSpyro)
Dragonhope (DarkSpyro)
thedarkdragonnikore (My forum)
darkheartspirit (DeviantART)
Level design:
Samuel (DarkSpyro)
Axel (DarkSpyro)
Cynder 1500 (DarkSpyro)
g3mfind3r10 (DarkSpyro)
Scripting:
Me
bionicle2809 (DarkSpyro)
Cynder 1500 (DarkSpyro)
Stages of development:
Story
Planning the levels.
Writing the code to allow for the levels.
Getting the art and music and sound effects for game.
Building the levels (scripting).
Test and repeat till the game is reasonably ready.
Specific info on what needs to be done can be found on my forum.

Re: Help With My Fan Game
I'm creating my own Spyro game myself using gamemaker, sadly it has nearly been put to rest due to low interest. I know nothing about C++, sorry!

That sounds like a good reason not to use GameMaker.

It might be helpful to try to get people from more than one forum to help, like I have. Then you will just need away to keep things organized.

Re: Help With My Fan Game
I would help, but I have no knowledge of how to make a game. Sorry about that...:(.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions...I just don't want to hear them. (kidding).

You could however provide suggestions on things I ask about on my forum. Such as one topic that is there now.

Re: Help With My Fan Game
Well, I would like an image for the first level for the level selection menu. Also, The resolution for the game has not been decided on, nor has the frame rate.
Here is the full instructions and suggestions regarding it: The first level is in the Temple. The image needs to be a bmp file. The size can be what ever you want, but I would like it if it was 1/4 the size of the game's resolution. As to what the resolution is, what size backgrounds do you feel like doing? The image can be done as a slide show (animated) if you feel like drawing multipule slides.

Re: Help With My Fan Game
Aang(TheManiacOnWheels), you could help with the story
. I've already got a base for the plot(the beginning and ending), just that I'm having trouble with the middle of the plot. I'll likely pull through eventually, but any help is very much welcome
.
Note that programming isn't the only thing you can help with, guys. ![]()

Yep, there are other things. In fact, you can even help by listing neat effects the game could have to make it more reposnsive and interactive (e.g. causing part of the path to fall away shortly after Spyro steps on it).

Indeed! Even things like those help us a lot! So see guys? Helping is easier than you think

Re: Help With My Fan Game
Quick update on the progress of the program: I have figured out how to play wave files.
Thank you for your time.
Edit: you can get the test program that I made to test the sound engine at http://www.freewebs.com/gweniodarlokiura/vault.htm. It is called Player. The readme can also be found there.

Re: Help With My Fan Game
I still need more people to help with art and sound if I want the alpha version to be ready by the time I am hoping to.
I have two samples for songs, and no art so far.
Also, I have posted an image of the help menu, which lists the controls, on DA.
http://gwenio1.deviantart.com/art/Fan-G … 3-96238675
There are other pictures there, but I do not have time to link them.

Re: Help With My Fan Game
→When the game is done, will it
be a game to be downloaded
off of the internet, or a
purchased game? Just asking.
Also, I am pretty excited to
see how it turns out.
→Keep up the amazing work!
This project could turn out to
be a great accomplishment.
God bless!

Download. When it is done (could be a while, only two samples for music and the only art is that for the empty/transparent tiles).

I finished* and uploaded the full set of instructions regarding the writing of the files used in the game. Now work can begin on the first level. Lets start planning the levels and writing the scripts.
*Final, unless a big flaw requires a change in it, in which case I will fix all the finished files and alert you to the change.

Re: Help With My Fan Game
It's great to see a fangame actuallly being worked on around here. I've found your tutorials to be good in helping me teach myself C++. And thanks to my previous Visual Basic classes in my school I am able to translate some of the functions into laymans terms.
What I mean is: REM in VBA is = to // in C++. They are both comment functions that have no change in the program. They're simply there to make a note of that particular part of the prgm.
Of course you know this, I just felt the need to give you an example of what I'm trying to say; I am horrible at expressing my thoughts -_-;.
Anyways, keep up the good work mate. It gives hope to some of us forum lurkers.
I'm trying to work up the nerve to attempt a fangame in 3D. Nothing big. Just a level or two to get the feel of it.
Plus I have no idea how to put my artwork into 3D. Sure it looks nice on paper but the part that kills me is putting it into the computer...>.<

Glad to hear I got the information across. After I wrap the fan game up, I plan to start work on a simple RPG game during which I hope to have people help with the code, and teach them as the work progresses as to how to make programs.
