More bleeps than usual?

I, for one, have noticed an unusually high ratio of BTP[sup:778ed59dae]1[/sup:778ed59dae].

What is causing this? I usually browse for a day without seeing a bleep but now I see them almost in every thread!

[sup:778ed59dae]1[/sup:778ed59dae] [sub]- BTP: Bleep to Post ratio[/sub]

EDIT: It could be the users starting to become trashy. :s

Re: More bleeps than usual?

My entering of more profanities into the filter is allowing you to see how much profanity is said here.

Re: More bleeps than usual?

In some of the RPGs there are alot of bleeps, but only because there has to be..I think.

Re: More bleeps than usual?

I think the filter is oversensitive. It was ok the way it was.

EDIT: Could I take a look at the word filter? Because it censored "j*erk" but in Spyro 2 and 3, they were referring moneybags as one. Sure if the games themselves have the word, why can't it be on the forum?

EDIT 2: I also triggered the bleep when I was playing an RP. I was not saying anything unusual.

Re: More bleeps than usual?

[sub]Yes, the filter is more sensitive than usual. It needs to be that way, though; we have very young members on this site who don't need to hear that kind of stuff. In this case, the stricter, the better.

I don't think it's really a big deal, anyway; I mean, it's not like your post loses any meaning if it contains a censored word. If you people want to have profane discussions, no one's stopping you from doing it outside of Spyroforum. [/sub]

[sub]Enough said. I doubt the users have become more "trashy" just because of some new entries into the filter. [/sub]

Re: More bleeps than usual?

There should be an "adaptive" system of adding words to the filter.

Instead of adding a ton of words that censor out legitimate words, you should keep the filter as is and gradually put in words as you spot them in the forum.

Re: More bleeps than usual?

Sorry for the double post, but it IS too sensitive!

I was writing an RPG and we are running away from gigantic rolling ball s of stone (Indiana Jones Style XD) and the "ball s" got bleeped out!

Then I was telling how moneybags was always referred to a greedy j-erk and it got bleeped out too!

"Balls" and "Jerk" removed.

Well said, Stormy.

[sub]That could prove to be problematic for a couple reasons.

1. One active mod simply does not have the time to look through every single thread on this forum for swears.
2. By the time the profane word has been detected, if ever, the damage has been done; the word has been used.

I think it works much better to keep the filter as is, even if it is a bit too strict at times. Suggestions like this will eventually get the filter to the perfect level of strictness; just keep pointing out those unnecessarily bleep'd words. [/sub]

Well said, Stormy.

[sub]Thank you.[/sub]

Re: More bleeps than usual?

I agree with Stormy. If it has been noticed with older members, I can understand. (The public education system is terrible about swearing) What I don't like is that young members are cursing. (10-12 year olds) I don't want them to be picking up the language on this forum. That could cause trouble and give this forum a bad name.

Re: More bleeps than usual?

Yeah...I could understand that...especially the Jark, and bolls words...(not really saying it)But SR...people will still be able to say ash...just by doing this @$$...or

Hidden text

b00b$

Just a quick refereance...you should take those off..for anyone trying to bypass that rule.Just making out sort of bypassable points in profanity words.

Re: More bleeps than usual?

[sub]I don't really understand - are you saying that Spyrorocks should take the word "boobs" off the filter because people can bypass it using 1337?

First of all, why would you be talking about boobs on a Spyro forum anyway? 0__o

Second, any word can be bypassed that way. Might as well take every word off the filter if we're going by that logic.

I don't know why someone would use boobs...and I guess so then.

Re: More bleeps than usual?

How about you keep it the system the same. Just let more people have the privilage to delete words like that. (Boobs, etc.) Usually its a few members that do it so if you take care of them, it will settle down.

1st offense: Warning

2nd offense: 2 day ban

3rd offense: Week long ban

4th offense: permaban

(Keep in mind that this would apply to the REALLY bad words. Like the F-word)

Why are we talking about enforcing the language control if you are bypassing them yourselves?

Re: More bleeps than usual?

I got a better system:

Purposely bypass word filter: 3 day ban.

Second offense: 1 week ban.

Third offense: Perma ban.

Its simple. Don't try to purposely bypass the filter.

(Does not apply to words that are not filtered. If you enter a word that is not filtered (But if a profanity), I will enter it into the filter database and no harm will come to you (Unless it was extremely vulgar and directed at a member, etc etc)).

Re: More bleeps than usual?

Whenever it comes to me and a censoring, it's actually me typing in the *beep* thing, I'm not a profane person but when I get mad, I do sneak out a word, but I don't type it. So don't think it's me cursing, the only time I do the censor is in an RPG when I try to relate with my characters. (Sorry if off topic)

BOT: I haven't really noticed, but it took me until reciently to figure out the *bleeps* are the forum censor, not a person typing it in (except for me)

[sub]You probably forgot the apostrophe and it came out as "hell", which would naturally be censored. smile[/sub]
