Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

"Your opinion is wrong!"

That's what came to me after my teacher rejected all ten of my sound and well written personal opinions. I actually got a warning letter from school that my grades are unusually low (52/100%) and in danger of failing... Because my opinion is wrong.

What? My opinion is wrong? Is there such thing as a wrong opinion!?

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

I would say an opinion is wrong if you can prove it's wrong. If someone's going to say "you're opinion is wrong" and not back it up, then they're the one who's wrong.
I would also say an opinion's wrong if it's just pure comical or stupid. You know, something like that flat Earth topic. "Durr the Earf is flat." Something like that.

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

Saying that someones opinion is "wrong" is confusing, because your opinion that your saying may be right or wrong itself...

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

Now I'm confused. hmm

Are you saying that saying someone else's opinion is wrong is your own opinion which could be wrong?

I hope I didn't confuse you either ...

We somehow have to follow a template. But because the template has the "declaring" part, the opinion will be biased.

Declaring part means:

"I disagree with this...." or "This game sucked because...." or "I believe Stephen Harper has no zips on his trousers because..." or even "The CN tower needs to be named NC tower because.."

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

ahhh, your confusing me yourself.
What i am saying is, if you said
"Shorts are good"
and then i said
"No, your opinion is wrong, trouses are better"
well my opinion could be wrong itself.
if you state something and give valid and un-proven-wrong facts, you are defienly right, but debatable subjects like which is better is only indefinent opinions.
heres an example
Right:"THe world is round because..."
Not Always Right: "The world is better round because..."

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

I just did not follow the formalities. I written my personal opinion with a personal tone. Too un-formal, eh?

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

No opinion is right or wrong, it jusy our opinion. If someone goes up to you and say "Your opinion is wrong" You say "Hell no, no ones is right or wrong fool!" Okay you dont really say the fool part but (to me) thats is not such thing was a right or wrong opinion.

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

As Misa said, "right" or "wrong" does not ever fit in the definion of "opinion". An opinion is just the referring to the expression of one's response to something that he or she addresses.
You can say that you're "right" or "wrong" when you're dealing with something factual, such as a math question or a proven fact.

Are you sure that your teacher said that your opinion was wrong? Or did you just not get your facts straight?

Yes, if you opinion is say, "The Holocaust wasn't real" or "There are weapons of mass destruction in Iraq."

It is possible to have a wrong opinion.

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

an opinion cannot be wrong because it is an opinion, nothing more. thats just the persons thoughts, not an actual fact. That is the straightforward answer really....

You're referring to something factual, so that doesn't really fall into a category of an opinion (if you say it is, then it certainly is a bad example). Also, the second example you gave is still debatable, so you can't really verify or falsify that statement yet. The first example you gave however is more factual; it's a recorded event historically and officially deemed as the Holocaust, so you can't argue against that.

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

"Your opinion is wrong." is a wrong statement.

What IS right is: "Your opnion is non-factual."

Like stated above, the sentences stated by RaidonMakoto are not opinions. They are declarative sentences and thus does not express opinion. Opinions usually come with "I think" or "Maybe" or "My perception would be", etc.

Re: Is there such thing as a wrong opinion?

an opinion is an OPINION its not a definte answer so no i dont think a opinion can be wrong. Its just someone expressing their point of view so it ddoesnt really have to be right.
