Reminiscence

It's been 7 years since I last visited this forum. I honestly don't know what's happened in the meantime, but I do want to talk to you lot. Since some folks seem to remember me, I'm curious to know how. What do you remember me by? And if it's all the same, you can try jolting my memory since I don't remember too much from 7 years ago. I love awaking old memories.

You can ask me as much questions as I ask you. I just want to get to know you people, both old and new.

To start I guess I'll introduce myself again: Aside my username here, I'm nowadays using the name Monarth. My actual name's Jesse and I'm currently an engineering student aspiring for video game designing. I dream to bring alive games from my imagination that's been inspired by the Legend of Spyro so much and many other games. My hobbies are being a lego artist and biking. In my old spyroforum days I used to do poetry too and somewhere in between I also did origami.

I originally got into spyroforum after falling in love with The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning. On this forum I made many good friends. Doppelgangergang, Akirex, Ayumi and a few others, though I don't think I remember their names. It was fun for a couple of years chatting with them as we formed our private group, but eventually we drifted apart as members vanished one by one, which pretty much ended my days on forums. It was good memories though. It was fun messing in this forum too, talking about TLoS, playing forum games, poetry jamming and whatnot. In a way I miss those days, but life's going forward and I've got dreams to accomplish.

But enough about me. I wanna know about you bunch. Let's have good chat. Who are you and what do you do? What's fun about spyroforum? What memories do you have of this place?

And of course:
It's nice to meet you all, old and new. =]

My name is EricChristianOlsenFanatic and I currently work part time as a file clerk, what's fun about the forums to me is I get to chat with cool people and be a part of a cool community and I have a lot of memories of the forums.

I have changed my username from Justin Long Fanatic to EricChristianOlsenFanatic, so Justin Long Fanatic is my old name on this site, and EricChristianOlsenFanatic is my new one.

Re: Reminiscence

all i can remember, it seems, is your old avatar. i feel bad hmm maybe you were more active in the days when i didn't get on here quite as often.

Doppel and Ayumi were both banned a long time ago. not sure who Akirex is... is that Antr the Rolf? i'm not really sure where he went.

as for me, i'm ... 36ISLS36 tongue i'm a musician/artist/photographer, rookie theologian and brony. i've been on here since 2008. i have lots of memories of various things that have happened over the years. and also things that have happened in my life over the course of being a member here. i'm not a very social person overall - this is one of the only places i actually talk to other people. and i'm generally more social here than i am other places.

I wouldn't say I was the most sociable person back then. Around that time I was getting in terms with hearing that I had asperger's syndrome, so I guess I was bit... reserved back then. I wasn't particularly good at striking discussion, but when interests aligned I'd be talking. So I suppose it's natural I wasn't that memorable.

Oh, right. Akirex did use a different name here. Antr the Rolf sounds about right. I think he had a thing with... DragonPrincess, was it? I've seen him on deviantart, though I think he's been inactive for a couple of years. Somewhere along the way he's become a hardcore furry and turned gay. (Frankly I'm not comfortable with gays, but let's leave it at that.) Haven't talked to him in ages, so I guess we've grown apart. I'm still on good terms with Doppelgangergang and Ayumi, though I don't talk with them too often. They don't seem to mind though.

Nice, do you play an instrument or do you use a program to make music? I used to tinker a little with Magix Music Maker, but my computer had some issues with it as the program refused to start most of the time.

Brohoof /) Ponies for life. I suppose I'm a brony, though not really a fanatic on the merchandise. I like the show greatly though =]

Re: Reminiscence

yeah, i remember he had a girlfriend on here. i think her name was DragonPrincess. she hasn't been here in several years, either. i never talked to Doppel much, except for maybe a few random comments on YouTube back in the day. i used to talk to Ayumi a little bit on YouTube, though i doubt he'd remember me at this point. i know he never messaged me whenever he tried to evade his ban on here.

i play the keyboard, i can kind of play the guitar, and i sing. i have a Kaossilator that i need to start using. sometimes i use Audacity. i downloaded FL Studio (again) recently, and want to play around with that.

never heard of Magix Music Maker o.O

and yeah, some of the MLP merchandise is kind of weird. tongue nevertheless, i have some anyway.

Re: Reminiscence

I've had a rough ride myself, I was pretty much an idiot for the first 1 or 2 years of being here. Forums were new to me and with a lacking social life I made lots of mistakes that surprisingly didn't end with me being banned. Anyway glad I wasn't cause this and BF 1942 modding are the only 2 forums I frequent these days.

I used to play electric guitar much more than I do these days. Haven't picked up my Lone Star Stratocaster (img) in a long time but it's still very clean. Today I just look for a job and play games ... not too exciting. Guns are a huge interest and hobby of mine now and I like to challenge myself at the gun range sometimes to see how far I can shoot with iron sights (img) while staying on target. Motorcycles are a growing interest, I really love the Ducati Scrambler (img) and wouldn't mind owning one once I can get a job and save up money.

Games I play these days are mostly Ark, War Thunder and good ol Payday 2 when I need a good stress reliever. I tend to stick to the same game for a long time, like a season.

That's pretty neat. I honestly wish I could've picked up an instrument, but going to practice and all that would've been a pain in the *bleep* since I live on the countryside. Also, I tend to have a desire to go for the abnormal, meaning I'd rather learn to play a halo drum, an ocarina or an ehru. All of those are either out of reach or expensive. I'm thinking of getting an ocarina though when an opportunity comes.

I discovered Magix Music Maker via my favorite composer, Adrian von Ziegler (His celtic music is awesome). Since he knowingly uses said program, I found it on steam and luckily on discount, so I bought it, whether I was going to use it or not.

I remember a few other names from the old days: Razzek, Reddragon12 and I think there was someone called DragonElder13 or something like that. I'm especially curious about DragonElder, since he used to be on board with me, Doppel, Ayumi and others. He was one of the first ones to vanish though.

Although I'm not particularly keen on weaponry, I'm nonetheless a trained conscript. The Finnish military was fun in its own way and the gun range days were an experience of their own. We used iron-sighted Rk 62s, which were based on the AK-47 and thus easy to maintain. And boy did we maintain. Many memories were engraved into my mind from those 9 months.

I like War Thunder and Payday 2 too, though I've played neither for a long time. I get tired of repetitive games if I'm grinding on my own. I usually need a friend to play and chat with. Same thing with Payday 2, though the bigger reason is the downhill after microtransactions and Captain Winters were implemented. Also because my only playbuddy quit. Though I haven't played anything in a while, I've been recently into Tera Online and Blade & Soul.

oh, i'm self-taught. tongue i don't take lessons for instruments.

there are more instruments i'd like to learn to play, but yeah, they get expensive fast. one of those instruments is an erhu, but i don't like how most of them require skins from snakes - i'd have to make sure whatever erhu i purchased didn't use real skins.

Yea that's why I use scripts, haha. Some fix game logic/bugs and others are just for fun. And one unlocks all the DLC cause it's ridiculous how many mini DLC there are which you gotta pay too much for (I bought a couple and got tired of it). Easier to unlock them all and freely use whatever content is added. Ark is my main game right now, I run a tribe with many endgame dinos and a few tribemates I play with.

Re: Reminiscence

Those three you mentioned are all very memorable to me because they all got into some sort of trouble with SR. Haha. I wasn't a mod for all of that time that they were there (Doppel pretty much took my place as a mod, and then I took it back not long after he was banned. Long story) but I still heard about it all anyway.

I mostly stayed out of the roleplaying section, but you might remember me as one of those original Spyro snobs. I was in a lot of those original Spyro vs TLoS "debates," and I'm pretty sure I remember you being in them. I don't know why I cared so much back then about "proving" that TLoS was bad, but I definitely don't care about it now. tongue So sorry for being rude back then.

A lot has happened since then for me. I went to college, got married, and had a son who is now 15 months old now and super adorable. I spend most of what little free time with four-panel dance gaming (DDR, ITG, Stepmania, etc). It's actually very physically demanding at the level I'm at, so I'm getting to be in pretty good shape from it. Oh and I'm going to be working part time again frim home pretty soon as a front end web developer.

Re: Reminiscence

Hi, I'm Waffled and relatively new here though I've known about this website for quite a while. I only joined last here when I had a reason to - that is, show off my Spyro Fan Game and some Spyro music that I had notated / orchestrated.

So yeah, from the above you can tell that my top two interests are music and a bit of game development, though I lean a lot more on the music side of things now as of late. I play piano and trombone, plus compose / arrange music with Sibelius software (just mentioning it if you want to check it out). I might even do Spyro piano tutorials / performances in the future smile

I wouldn't say I'm a consistent poster here - I'm here and there at topics that interest me. I use the skype chat group a lot more than posting or using the IRC (Spyo Chat) even though its almost been abandoned.

In terms of games, I play War Thunder, CS: GO and bit of Total War from time to time.

Plus, I have yet to prove my worth in defeating Ayumi on the fields of battle in IRC or somehtin' or nothin'...

Way to go. After becoming proficient in my craft with lego, I'd likely find it hard to self-teach myself to learn something new now. Music or drawing, both are real challenges for me that I haven't really gotten the guts to face yet.

Swaffy wrote:

I didn't mind the huge pile of DLC. Me and my friend had a habit of proving that DLC was not required to manage in the game, so we often used non-DLC weapons and mods. I bought a lot of DLC myself, but usually I'd get them from seasonal sales.

Oh yeah, that reminds me why we founded a separate forum for ourselves in the first place. The guys were real troublemakers here for various reasons and had to book out. They also dragged me along, since they were pretty much the main bunch I talked to here. I couldn't really blame them though back then, but thinking now they all got pretty moody for all the wrong reasons. Antr generally was a drama llama and hogging attention by his relationship with DragonPrincess. I don't really remember any details though. Ayumi had a crush, I think, with Dark Fury Dragon, and that turned into a drama. He still has a song on youtube that's clearly dedicated to her. Doppel was just stubborn with his convictions, though I don't know the details what actually got him banned. He still has just as strong opinions, like when he opposed my conscript service quite openly when we talked on skype.

I do remember you vaguely. I was just as motivated to prove why TLoS was good, but I didn't really get aggressive with it. I don't remember a single line though, so whether we argued or not doesn't really matter today. =] I tried my hands at RPing just once, but boy did my ambitious imagination fail me. It was a crash landing after two posts. After that I only RPed with the others on our private forum and even there I failed to be consistent. I took inspiration from way too many sources for way too few reasons xD

Family life must be looking bright and sounds nice. =] I certainly wish I'd have a girlfriend and could start a family of my own, but there's oh-so-much trouble in reaching that, since there's hardly any women I know in the first place, my movement zone is limited and I generally don't want to start dating strangers just for the sake of dating. I have a bit of a high moral code, so God help me.

Re: Reminiscence

Glad to have you back! I have a really bad memory for internet-related things, so I don't really remember you--sorry! I've also taken many breaks from the forum for months or years at a time so I may have missed you completely.

I used to go by DDR_Maniac back in the day - lots of my old posts were pretty...interesting as well, but that's just being a teenager for you. I'm also Stormy's brother, which is why I'm a mod now, basically. tongue

Graduating with my bachelor's degree in the last year and landing a GIS contractor job are the biggest happenings in my life recently. I'm currently looking for an apartment so I can move out of my parents house and avoid the terrible commute to work. I play a lot of Stepmania/DDR/ITG for exercise too, and also started up a livestream which I enjoy doing in my free time along with video games. Now that the weather is finally warming up, I'll be outside running, playing tennis, and frisbee golf too.

Ooh, nice. We have the same interests. Though I haven't really delved into music as much as I would've liked to, I'm nonetheless studying Information and Communication Technology. We have 8 majors to choose from and my goal is video game applications from them in order to become a game designer. I might check that software you mentioned. Nice to know it carries the name of our national composer.

Are we talking about the same Ayumi here? How are you related to him? 'o'

I think I remember you. We didn't really talk, but I remember seeing you around, quite a bit actually. Her brother, huh? Spyroforum is turning into a family business ;D

Ooh, nice. In a way DDR intrigues me, but it's not really something you can find here in Finland. I sometimes dreamt of doing livestreaming too, but frankly I don't play that much these days and anime is taking most of my time. I also have a really deep voice, so I have no idea how to incorporate that =3 Frisbee golf is a nice pastime. There's courses all around Finland and one particularly interesting course is not too far from my home. It's built on top a terminal moraine, making each track vary in many ways.

By the way, didn't this forum used to have a reward/trading system of sorts? Collecting gems for your profile by various means.

Apparently Ayumi got a bit...upset...after SR banned him a while ago. According to legend, he infrequently returns on either an alt account or in the chat, lamenting upon this websites inevitable destruction and inactivity.

I think Stormy joked once that in order for me to become a veteran Spyro Forum user I must encounter him on one of these 'visits' and challenge him to a game of smash or something tongue

So yeah, no special relations or anything smile

Lol, deep voices are great for livestreaming. I don't actually talk during my stream because balancing audio from music, stomping, and my voice is pretty difficult. I also average maybe 3 or 4 viewers, so I'm still learning. I was thinking of doing a Spyro marathon stream sometime soon with a mic just to see how it goes. smile
DDR is pretty hard to find everywhere; it's pretty much a dying game at this point. I actually play at home with a heavily-modded metal pad. But yeah, disc golf is super fun - and that course sounds awesome. Me and my buddies try to play at a new course every weekend

Spyroforum used to have a gem-system where you would gain some gems for every post, but they didn't really serve much of a purpose, so they got cut once the forum layout changed.

The ghost of Ayumi, huh... Things have taken an interesting turn, though I remember him as a rather persistent person. I don't remember much about his relation with Dark Fury Dragon, but I do have some recollection of him chasing her around, maybe even harassing, after a breakup or something. DFD got on a hiatus, if I remember right, due to life matters and the two got distant. Ayumi didn't take it too well.

Speaking of inactivity, the presence of people here does seem rather toned down. I recall there was a lot higher activity during the age of TLoS. I can see that the fandom has mostly died out, since Dawn of the Dragon came 8 years ago. Man, that's a long time ago. Jared Pullen's reigniting the flames though, now that he joined deviantart and has gone out of his way to delve into the game details we don't know about.

I suppose it didn't have a point, though it was strangely satisfying to gather your own hoard. Rather than removing it, I would've liked to see it being developed into a ranking system of sorts, where members would be rewarded based on their contributions to the forum. I think that would've encouraged the community a little.

Re: Reminiscence

We picked a really minimalistic forum software in order to keep things somewhat fast and light, so any kind of system like that, while cool, would most likely have to be coded from scratch. Which I definitely don't have the time for, unfortunately. Heck it's been like 2 years and I still never made the new logo since SR didn't like my original one. tongue

And yeah, the forum's definitely seen better days in terms of activity, but it's kind of nice in a way. We all get to know each other really well, especially since most of us have been here for years.

Re: Reminiscence

^ Same. Lol. I get on here a lot to read and see what's going on, but I never post anything. Hopefully that will change when I finally graduate college in 2 weeks. I do remember you, DragonWithinMe. I was also an original Spyro snob, like Stormy. tongue I actually remember getting a temporary ban for attacking people who preferred the Legend series. I can't believe I was ever like that. I look back at so many of my old posts on here and think, "Wow, I was really stupid." xD Haha! But I've actually grown to really love playing the Legend games for their story. I'll always prefer the originals, but I can also appreciate the others! Nice to see you here again, btw. smile I'm glad you made this thread. I love revisiting old memories.

Edit: Wow, I just looked at my join date. I can't believe I've been here for a little over 9 years...

As a thought we can always commission a well respected Spyro artist who can spend a lot of time on detailing and getting his shapes right. And perhaps give it a transparent background so there's no weird white border.

[Edit] In fact you can send that image to me and I can fix up that white part.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

And yeah, the forum's definitely seen better days in terms of activity, but it's kind of nice in a way. We all get to know each other really well, especially since most of us have been here for years.

That is the bonus of fewer numbers, which is probably why I got close with Antr, Doppel, Ayumi and others in the first place since we shared a private forum. The downside was that activity dropped if somebody left, which several people eventually did and the forum died out.

I have a hard time remembering one of us. He often referenced himself as Saphira, as in the one from Eragon, which he also used as an icon and RP character. I think his name was DragonElder13 or something, but I've been unable to find him so I may not remember the name right. I wonder if it rings anyone's bells here.

Your name does ring a bell, I remember your name a lot better than many of the others here. I can definitely understand people who prefer the original trilogy. Essentially it has a higher quality and variation of gameplay. TLoS is more moving and smacking enemies and playing with elements, no more, no less. The story and world is what seals the deal for me though, since it feels more consistent and less 'magically random' compared to the originals. I get a higher satisfaction from being able to understand the world, which for the originals I really can't.

Re: Reminiscence

After all this talk, I began a little chat group with Ayumi and Doppel. An interesting, yet awkward discussion is about to ensue...
